If you saw our, NASHVILLE SC, game there was a kid who ran on the field at the end of the game to get a selfie with Gareth Bale. He's a family friend. My kids played soccer with him. He received a 2 year ban from MLS matches and a $10,000 fine. https://www.instagram.com/p/CgM9TCRt7yZ/
Ouch! At the end of every season almost our entire fan base invades the pitch, it's basically a tradition. If our fans get hit with the same punishment the club will go bust. I've not watched MLS for quite a few years, I can't believe how many teams there are now. It took me a while to figure out you meant Nashville, I thought you were referring to Wednesday and that Bale had signed for Rayo Vallecano or something. I couldn't get my head around an MLS ban and $10,000 fine for a Hillsborough friendly.
Home draws won't get the job done - nor will conceding three at home. But, yeah, not a horrible result. The reaction of some Wednesday fans is well over the top, but you expect that, I suppose. They certainly can't trot out the ol' dull football lament, though, that's for sure.
My thoughts exactly. While a lot of us thinking "promotion", I'm simply hoping we ward off yet another relegation.
Crikey. Relegation? That's not gonna happen. Moore's team took something like 46 points from the second half of last season. That's automatic promotion form. He's been backed, and seems to have gotten much of who he wanted over the Summer. Anything less than promotion this year will be seen as a failure, for sure. Even leaving it to the lottery of the playoffs won't be good enough for some. And I can't say that I really disagree with that. What I do disagree with is the assumption that a single 3-3 home draw implies failure. Again, results like that won't get the job done ... but it's just one game. If we get into October and there have been too many of them ... ok. But put in a good performance in Milton Keynes next Saturday, and you're right back on track. Meanwhile, a little extra work with the defense on the training pitch, perhaps.
I'm sure you understand my trepidation. I'll feel better when we have a few "W's" under our belt. I'd feel a lot more confident if we had last years lineup.
But Darren Moore's side were far from convincing defensively in their league opener and needed a Fisayo Dele-Bashiru brace to rescue a point in a thriller with Portsmouth at Hillsborough. The Owls have an impressive record against MK Dons and won 3-2 here on their last trip back in April, which included a memorable long-range strike from Barry Bannan. And it looks like we're starting Stockdale in goal over Dawson again. I prefer Dawson. Also, former Owl footballer turned gaffer Lee Bullens' team, Ayr United, is in 1st place after two matches.
Sounds as though Stockdale's had a very good game today. He didn't particularly impress v Pompey (or at least not in a good way), to be honest, so that's particularly nice to see.
League Cup, presumably? I'd like to see them make a fist of it, but I suspect this competition will distract Wednesday from the League this one time only. Of course, Sunderland's need to consolidate in the Championship will make it as much of a distraction for them as it is for Wednesday; but still, I'm guessing they'll move on.
I would guess it means 'head to head', which would show recent results between the two teams. But that's just a guess.
