bingo. Have you felt any point that steffen would ever deliver silverware of any sort? Beyond sitting in the pine and existing? Me either it’s the equivalent of being wowed by Julian green n a cup game if anything steffen has been squarely responsible for losing silverware for city. Two years in a row.
Source tells CBS Sports that Zack Steffen is indeed set to leave Manchester City this summer in pursuit of minutes.Am told it would be on loan though. Talks underway.— Roger Gonzalez (@RGonzalezCBS) June 24, 2022 Good to see at least reports this may happen.
thread on Matt Turner [Thread] Matt Turner, the American wall🧱In this thread, I'll be showcasing the new Arsenal goalkeeper and analyzing what Gunners can expect from him.💪Please share and leave a like on the tweets if you like them and let me know your thoughts! Let's kick off! #Turner 🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/pk3bTW15Pt— Jan🇸🇮 (@Jan8Nemec) June 23, 2022
This Jan fellow has a whole lot of good things to say about Turner. There are some very nice compilation videos in the thread as well.
Lots of questionable analysis in that thread. Pretty weird when someone pushes a players weaknesses as a strength.
Luckily Horvath saved him for the only trophy won by the current USMNT starters. Of course, most on here don't want either him or steffen near the team.
Matt Turner literally just won the Gold Cup this year with a bunch of backups and had a great outing. That........is a trophy. And he won the Supporter's Shield last year.
this board decided he was in such poor form they didnt care one way or the other. but sure- another manufactured reason to defend poor ol berhalter...
I loved what Horvath did in the Nations League final and said I thought that performance alone warranted him a NT shot even considering his shaky club situation. But I also loved what Turner did in the Gold Cup. I understand if other fans don’t care, but seeing the U.S. beat Mexico in the final for the first time since 2007 meant something to me. Unfortunately competitive games since then have revealed questionable keeping all around. I’d probably bet on Steffen still getting the starting job if a loan works out.
lets not get carried away here- from the arena/bradley coaching tree? thats guaranteed mls managing work for life. they expand the league based on jobs needed for former bruce and bob assistants...
I am sorry. I was just confused. I want to just step through this whole thing to see if I can figure it our or have follow questions. First, I have never seen anyone talk about a CONCAF trophy as a basis for justifying a goalkeeper. I think that threw me off that I combined too many thoughts together. Second, to the question about Steffen "delivering silverware", I would never use those terms, but I definitely thought we would beat Mexico in the NL before and during the game. Steffen played well and came up with a big save before going out injured. Third, I didn't panic about Horvath's lack of first team minutes when he came in and still thought we would win. Low an behold, Horvath was solid for the remaining 30 plus 30, including the PK save to help us to the 3-2 win. Damn... still don't get it, so questions... Why are the NL or GC trophies even a thing being discussed in the GK thread? This just seems like some weird flex and a very poor indicator of quality goalkeeping. Why is the GC trophy such a big deal for Turner yet the NL trophy not for Steffen/Horvath? I mean it was against the same exact team within months of eachother. What did those other posts mean after mine that pretty much raised the same question I asked in this post?
It looks like Steffen and Horvath are gonna get loans. Great. I hope Turner does, too, and I know he knows what's at stake. Turner's my #1 right now, but any player riding the pine leading up to the World Cup is not a player I'd risk as my starter. All 3 need to not only get loans but also establish themselves as starting keepers. We've all seen players go out on loan and still not play much.
We need a starting keeper. It doesnt matter if its at Crawley Town, Salford, Northampton, Leyton Orient, or Forest Green. Starting League Two is better than bench in the premier league. They all need to be working on loans here hopefully. I mean, I would hope at League One is realistic but I would absolutely be happy with someone starting in League Two right now. We get a guy starting for Charlton, Portsmouth, Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby, on loan I will be happy, thats where we are right now.
100% agree. It's all about being in game situations week after week. Training doesn't do that. You can't ask your body to respond to game situations that it's not used to doing.
Just so we're clear, Jesse Marsch is the #1 guy on the Bradley tree. Jesse has called Bradley a mentor and father figure. First, he played for Bob Bradley at Princeton from 92 to 95. Jesse was then drafted and played for Bruce Arena at DCU, where Bob Bradley had become an assistant. When Bradley became head coach at Chicago, he acquired Jesse. They won a boatload of trophies together. [To this day Jesse says his favorite match as a player was when he and Bob beat old boss Bruce Arena in MLS Cup 1998.] Then Bradley moved to ChivasUSA. What did he do? He acquired Jesse Marsch. When he was done playing, what did Jesse do? Bob Bradley was the USMNT coach. Jesse served as his assistant from 2009 thru 2011. So until he got his own head coaching job at Montreal, Jesse spent virtually his entire playing and coaching career with Bob Bradley. So..............you're wrong. Anyway, back to Zack Steffen. Great news that he's looking for a loan. I should say that a big part of Zack's probably is that he can't seem to stay healthy. It doesn't matter what club he's at if he can't get back on track in that regard. The back issue seems to be a real problem. But when that guy was actually getting a run of games as a starter in the Bundesliga, he was doing quite well. Until he started having knee problems, of course. I think the repetitive injuries have taken more of a toll on Zack Steffen then we realize. Knee and back in particular.
It’s really hard to differentiate between Steffen’s physical vs decision-making problems. In a way, his mistakes and poor play are similar to Horvath’s, who has no physical problems. We are dependent on Turner being “ready” to start in November. It does not help that our back four or three or five don’t protect our GK when absolutely needed.

Thought Johnson could have done better on both the Union's goals tonight. They would have been impressive reaction saves but savable nonetheless. He did make a nice save on an angle on a breakaway, but gave away a corner needlessly in the first half and did not look super assured with the ball at his feet (none of our guys do though).
