she did make the choice to turn to Russia and build the Nord Stream II that bypassed Ukraine and Poland… showing once again that the German and Russian cooperate best when they’re screwing their common neighbors
Again with the ignorance. Seriously, it is almost impossible for modern reactors to have a meltdown. You are also thinking about one big power plant when we now have micro-reactors that can be put up very quickly and very safely in a distributed network fashion. Fukushima was built in the late 60s. How many technologies are you aware of that haven't progressed in 60 years? That's the problem. You're using arguments that are based on 40-60 year old technology that simply are not applicable any more.
And there's the operant word. Last I checked, he's not the POTUS, and thus, we have the US and NATO rightly backing Ukraine, rather than the pants-pissing and surrender-monkeying that some europeans prefer.
What, exactly, did they do to earn the rank of citizen? Call them "freeloaders," if you like. That aside, you're correct that so-called "conservatives" want to surrender-monkey to putin.
I know, right! How DARE they fight for self-governance and self-determination. My inconvenience at the pump is cutting into my ability to buy my cigs. They should've just wussed out.
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” That quote is hogwash...Putin only wants a little piece!
You're again focussing on accidents (I doubt these plants are constructed with the impossibility of a malfunction) while the two other threats are ignored, bombing and sabotaging the computersystems operating the plants. It's better to get nuked with a bomb (fall out etc. are gone in a relatively short time) than a bomb on a nuke plant, as the nuclear waste of plants are poisining environments for thousands of years.
I understand you are ignorant of nuclear power, but you are just getting ridiculous now. Please stop while you are behind, you are just making yourself look worse and worse the more you post here. Nuclear waste is no longer a valid argument for not using nuclear power. Modern nuclear power reactors can actually be part of the solution to cleaning up the nuclear waste created by old reactors as they can be operated using the rods that were discarded as unusable by old plants, we now have the ability to process the rods to remove the contaminants that prevent them from being used even further down, etc, etc. Once we get to the point of material the new plants can't process, we're talking about "waste" with a half life in the 10s to hundreds of years and are in small enough quantities that they can be stored far below ground on site using drilling.
Sorry dude, you're just again dodging the security issues not related to accidents or waste. Just answer my points regarding the threat you with two oceans protecting you, havenot got to take into consideration.

Not if a bomb drops on it. Yoshou supposes I have no clue about nuclear power, but he doesnot know my late German brother in law was a nuclear scientist, working for Euratom in the Netherlands and Munich on developing nuclear energy solutions. The external safety issue, was terrorism, now with the added war risks, isnot something that can be solved. The fact remains it's from a long time perspective better to be bombed with a nuclear weapon, as the effects of that are gone in about two decades. When a nuclear plant is annihilated, plutonium and curium etc. are being spread out over a vast area, making these inhabitable/useless for foodproduction for hundreds/thousands of years. From wikipedia
Why is nuclear energy necessary in Germany? I can see some merits in keeping the old plants running longer, although I'm not at all convinced that it is really a good idea. But new plants? Why? It would take a decade, probably far longer, before a new plant would be running. Economically it would be utterly uncompetitive. So why? Solar, wind and batteries look so much more promising. They can be build faster and cheaper and with far less opposition.
If nuclear doesn't already exist or projects underway, it does seem like it's not worth it. However, I'd argue it would be a great backup resource to have, especially if an issue in wind/solar/battery pops up. That's also why dams were so popular, because it's easy to ramp up and down at any given moment based on need and rarely fail. I'd think that nuclear should be something most large electrical networks should keep as a fraction of overall supply. Back to Ukraine, I hope they can strike back in the Donetsk hard and soon.
I think it's just a misunderstanding from US pundits The market players never had any plans to build nuclear. The question was whether to end the old plants as planned, or extend them a bit longer. They were at the end of their planned life.
In many respects the backup resource did exist - in France - who had a lot of newer reactors. One of the debates at the time, was that the decision would see Germany import energy - especially dirty coal energy The real mistake, was not to accelerate the ramp of domestic generation in terms of net zero targets. Maybe this shock will do that,
Obrien update thread. Russia clearly exhausted - fighting in a tiny area of operations after extravagant losses. Offensive clearly a failure judged against its objectives 10 weeks ago. So would say nothing has changed. Russia growing weaker and having to scale back offensive action progressively. Ukrainian capabilities are improving. Sound like a broken record, but at some point the balance of effective military power will shift to Ukraine.— Phillips P. OBrien (@PhillipsPOBrien) June 26, 2022
Ukraine has not yet perished! Losing the Donbas sucks, but territorial loss doesn't mean defeat. Russia will have a hell of a time holding tht territory, all the while Ukraine is getting resupplied with modern NATO artillery. Even if the tide turns soon, it still appears that it will be a long drawn out conflict. I hope that Ukraine can regain access to the Black Sea soon. I guess there's that issue of mines too.
