I'm glad we're finally getting some concrete details about the stadium. But I still believe Lafayette Square Mall is a possible location. It was bought by new owners last month, and those new proprietors are mum about their plans. They lost Shopper's World, so all it has left is a few franchise clothing stores and a bunch of personal clothing and cell phone outlet shops.
I have to believe that Lafayette Square would be available. But the area doesn't seem like it would be able to sustain the kind of development Eleven Park envisions. Downtown would certainly be preferable. The problem is that the number of available sites has dwindled in the almost seven years since stadium talk began.
I'm well aware downtown is the preferred spot. But, some of the ideal, choice cuts of land (south of the Indianapolis Zoo, near Lucas Oil Stadium) have been taken. We'll just have to wait until March to find out where they plan on building to see what they will do with the project.
Since 2014, I have written multiple articles discussing the Indy Eleven stadium potential locations, features, and legislative process. By the end of next month, we're supposed to get an official location, so I thought I would summarize what I've said throughout the years and discuss a few more sites: https://the-game-beckons.blogspot.com/2021/02/indy-eleven-stadium-location-options.html
Thanks for that very thorough review. At this point, I've given up on speculating and am just awaiting the announcement.
At this point, I've long given up on any announcement. Seems like they had an ideal location, deal fell through, and hope everyone forgets about it.
#ElevenPark will be housed on over 20 acres of land purchased by @Keystone_Corp that will bridge the central business district, Victory Field, Lucas Oil Stadium, Indiana Convention Center, the White River, and the Elanco campus. pic.twitter.com/2vVt2Sytj3— Eleven Park (@ElevenParkIndy) June 24, 2022
The fact that we have a site finally and some concrete information on what will go here is great news for the organization, who have been on cruise control for the past few years. The big hurdle is finances given all this is going to be a billion dollar project, which, unfortunately, will mean it's going to fall on taxpayer support, and that's the one thing I don't like about this given Indianapolis does still need a lot of support with repaved roads and better public transportation. Not to mention by the time 2025 rolls around, the team may likely be shut out of the MLS entirely. But, I'm happy we finally got a spot and something to sink our teeth into.
We got new renderings, but you didn't post them!? https://www.indyeleven.com/news/2023/02/17/eleven-park-designs/
Happy to see this. I lived in Indy for a few years (over 20 years ago) and lived right near that area, only a few blocks away from where the team plays now at Carroll Stadium. We come back and visit occasionally but have never made it to a game. I'd like to go now; when they get this stadium I'll want to go even more.
Stadium Proposal should now be "Stadium Construction" as today's the day they did the groundbreaking ceremony at Diamond Chain. Denney Construction is the crew contracted to tear everything down.
