I also want to make very clear I am not providing answers, just asking more questions. I do not think it is always as black and white as the cancel culture wants it to be. There are some abuses and those people should be punished accordingly. I am not for players going after coaches because they do not like them. IF, and I repeat IF, any of this is that, it is wrong, and those players should be punished accordingly.

TO you’re referring to Anagnost? His crazy behavior followed him around several programs and that is more than enough to say his treatment of athletes was awful. The Rory Dames reports have some examples of abuse in there (in addition to some whining that you need to move past) and he has rightfully been put in a position where he shouldn’t coach again.

These days everyone is so quick to jump to cancel people when someone touts the word abuse and we need to take a step back and judge the actual merits of the situation. The Oklahoma coach is an example- there is clearly a bad culture there as so many players have left in such a short period of time. Is it an abusive culture as has been stated at times on this forum? I haven’t seen an example of something he specifically said or did that was abusive. Maybe the guy is just a douche and people don’t like him? Maybe he’s just a bad coach? Whichever way the term abuse when it comes to womens college soccer is being tossed around a lot right now.

Nope. Typo. I’m just wondering if there is any attempt to prove some of the allegations or is it one parties word vs another. Riley? Burke?

What would you like to know about OU? There’s been some examples given on here and I can circle back to those or provide new examples and you can tell me if they qualify as “abuse.”
-17 yr old player spends night at his house during season(ncaa violation)takes pics of her all doped up on meds and he shares pic with entire team and staff.
-tells own new transfer on large scholarship he shouldn’t have wasted his money on her.
-tells full scholarship Potter recruit she’s a disappointment of an investment
-bullies a barely 18 yr old Potter recruit by asking her everyday in front of other players if she’s in the transfer portal yet.
-tells most athletic player on team she’s not athletic
-benches players for what their families post on social media
-tells a player she’s not a good teammate bc didn’t high five keeper after making a big save then you can watch the film and see that she did
-blames goals against on players not even on the field or that were clearly not even in the play at all
-takes captain band away from big time transfer with no explanation given to her
-accuses potter’s recruits and singles one out in front of team of giving set piece information away to opposing team whom ou had never lost to bc they lost that day 1-0 under carr.
-transfer A comes in, bad attitude according to carr so scholarship taken away, transfer A plays on no money following season, transfer A who is known to be reckless and has yellow cards to back that up goes in for late tackle against Potter’s player B in training and tears player B’s ACL, carr tells player b after season that he’s taking her scholarship away bc he can’t invest in an injured player then tells her he’s not offering her her 5th year. She goes to compliance and was told they can get her back on team if she wants (would be mentally terrible for her to return to that atmosphere as carr wouldn’t play her and she wouldn’t get many reps in reckless trainings) or compliance could just reinstate her scholarship and she continue as normal student. Player b was starter and played mega minutes under Potter and decent minutes under carr. Carr then gives all of player b’s scholarship money back to transfer A.

There’s a small glimpse of ou soccer. I can go on and on. It’s something new everyday with this guy.
Yes, a lot of this is mind ********ery but on the daily mind ********ery plus some rule-breaking and other factors takes its toll on young women.

Your last paragraph is 100% false. Becky Burliegh was not fired she stepped in out of retirement to coach after Marc Skinner opted to take the Man United job and be back with family in the UK

I put my opinions about all the instances above right next to them. Thank you for sharing specifics those are enlightening. I personally think there are a couple instances of abuse, one of which he should be fired for, but for the most part this guy is a tool who people most likely don’t like to have coach them for good reason.

Appreciate the insight, but without context, it’s very difficult to jump to conclusions on some of them. Was he joking with a few comments? Did the player have a bad attitude in some instances? Was a player recruited by the previous coach and didn’t fit his system? There is always turmoil and turnover when a new coach takes over a program. This isn’t as unusual as you think. Sometimes it’s a simple as the coach wants to clear everyone out because they don’t fit their system or style of play. In most instances, they are doing the player a favor by doing that. Staying where you aren’t wanted or won’t play is a recipe for disaster. Definitely a concern when players the new coach brings in are leaving though.

However, I also have a concern when people feel the need to exaggerate things to strengthen their case. I just compared the 2020-21 roster with fall 2021 and there were SIX players that left that were not seniors. That is not unusual in a program with a new coach. SIX. Several players changed numbers which might throw off some people, but they remained on the team. He took over in Jan 2020, which means the first year the roster was set. NLIs had been signed. Like everyone, they must have been shut down in that spring so the first time he coached them at all would have been the fall of 2020/spring 2021. So the only turnover he’s responsible for is between 2021 spring to fall 2021. And then obviously this coming fall, but that roster hasn’t been released yet. I highly doubt 31 players have left the team for this fall. When people feel the need to embellish it means they don’t have enough evidence to stand on its own. It’s starting to appear to be the case here.

Having said all of that, my biggest concern is the first thing you listed. What were the circumstances surrounding a player staying over at a coach’s house? I can’t imagine any coach would survive that. There has to be a bit more to that story.

Isn’t it a problem for a coach to publicly accuse a player of cheating ? If a player is found to have cheated couldn’t that cause a player to be kicked out of NCAA athletics and kicked out of the school. Wouldn’t that be actionable as defamation?

This one is really concerning, if true, how is he still a coach there? When would it ever be allowed for a player, especially a minor, to spend the night at the coaches house?

I don’t want to argue with you as you clearly haven’t done your homework very well as the Big 12 was one of the only conferences that did play in fall of 2020 and Carr led the team to its worst performance yet going 1-12-2.
I haven’t even mentioned how he handled Covid protocols but I will tell you he “isolated” 4 of potter’s recruits 3 separate times when none of them even had a positive Covid test. They were locked up for their first 6/8 weeks as freshmen at ou. One who had just turned 18 a few weeks prior was sent to a hotel 15 minutes away and carr never once checked on her. He would berate players that got Covid and make them do zoom calls with the team as they’re crying their eyes out and he would make them apologize and tell the team how they contracted Covid. Of course Carr tested positive for Covid during season and was able to get out of if as he made up some bs that his test was switched with another on the centrifuge so he never had to quarantine.
There ARE over 35 players who quit or transferred but still had eligibility. Soccer police on Twitter has a list of players that looks pretty accurate. Carr also lost his asst coach after one season when she had moved her entire family to OK and bought a home there. His new asst’s only college experience is being a volunteer asst coach for Arkansas for a few years and guarantee he’s not going anywhere with Carr there. His experience is being with the English women’s National team where he was part of a staff that was fired for abuse and racial slurs. Like attracts like. Interesting story if you want to look it up.
Speaking of racial slurs, let’s go there now with carr. I can’t even imagine how it would feel to be a black female athlete playing for carr. One of the first things he tells the team in 2020 is that he didn’t know slavery was a thing bc he’s not from here. When there was some conflict on the team about wearing equality shirts during the BLM movement he asked a black player to handle it bc he just didn’t understand racism. Asking a player to educate an entire team on racism and resolve racial tensions is a lot and she was overwhelmed and left. Players asked to get the $2 equality patches on their jerseys like most of the nation was wearing at the time and carr said it wasn’t in the budget yet the next week he bragged how he bought the whole coaching staff new Jordan’s. This spring after the loss at Arkansas, he compared the Arkansas team to an African nation where you don’t know how old the players are because they don’t have birth certificates. His asst, the one who was part of a staff fired for racial slurs, tells the ou team in a meeting that we aren’t going to be like the Jamaican bobsled team and just copy everything other people do when he was talking about a youth club team and the energy they had during their pregame cheer that he wanted ou to emulate.
Also, you tell me a circumstance that would make it ok for a college coach to have a minor spend the night at his house and take photos of her while she’s medicated and then share with the team. Also, no other player was offered the chance to spend the night at his house(a violation in itself). And he did survive that. Was reported by several people to ou and the ncaa and nothing was done. No suspensions, nothing! I’ll continue another day.

it is difficult to know what is truth here and what is complete bs as you evidently have a personal vendetta with Carr. I will be curious to see what happens after the fall with this position

His experience is a lot more than that and closely associated with the USSF. How did he get that influential role if his experience is/was as you say?

I do think there is enough that has happened within this program to suggest that Carr will be out after this fall. Centermid/soccer police seem to have a couple of examples of abusive behavior, but mostly I think this is just a coach who is kind of a dick, and my bet is this poster is someone whose daughter (or the actually athlete) simply was not good enough to play at Oklahoma and didn’t like hearing the truth. Carr will likely be fired after this fall because he clearly is a poor coach and the turnover within the program is not great. Still the twitter soccer police seems like a whiny baby who has nothing else to do with their time in my opinion.

I dont know either way, he had been a USSF fixture for a long time. OSU were buying a resume of proven NT level coach. The assumption would be that he is a good coach and the hope would be he has connections with top recruits over a wide range of ages. If that has not played out in recruits staying and he has not won, then I wonder how he could hope to continue, even without the allegations.

I hope the sport is going thru a phase of looking deeper than the surface to make decisions. I mean that at all levels. The incentives in this sport are not aligned with medium term thinking.

You just proved my point for me. There are a couple of things that if true (I have no idea, but I’m certainly not going to take your word for it), would be cause for concern and fireable offenses. The fact that you then add to those things with things that are unprovable or simply gross exaggerations make you seem not very credible.

There have not been 37 players that have left in the past two years. Graduating seniors with COVID eligibility do not count because no coach is obligated to bring them back. I’ve looked at the rosters. I said it before. SIX non-seniors didn’t return from his first year. That’s it. Not 37. Not 27. Not even 10. The fall 2022 roster hasn’t been released yet, but something tells me the turnover won’t be anything close to what you are trying to get people to believe.

Stick to the facts, and you might get people to believe you. But exaggerating tells everyone that you have nothing to back up your claims. I also remain skeptical that any school that did an investigation would keep him on if what you say was true. Theses days they wouldn’t stick their neck out for a football coach. They certainly aren’t sticking their neck out for a women’s soccer coach.

I agree with Whispers. You are a disgruntled former player/parent of a player who is trying to blame your shortcomings on someone else. He may in fact get fired for performance. But you sound like a deranged lunatic with your idiotic claims. Grow up.

One item that is interesting is that after 6 years with USSF and in control of that whole age group for years, there is not one YNT player that was interested in coming to OU with Carr. In fact the only one that was, de omitted and went to TCU.

Was talking about Gough not Carr here.

I'll lay this to rest for now. No horse in this race, but knowing all that's been put out there by different sources(even if you believe only a bit of it) shouldn't people be "out to get him?" There have been that many players and yes you can include 5th years(esp ones that just transferred in)bc you would expect some to stay in decent circumstances. You asked for details, and you got them. Hard to prove things on a soccer forum unless you want audio recordings, player interviews, photos, idk. Take my word or not, I don't really care. Just hope that when he is let go, he doesn't continue to fail upward and negatively impact young womens' lives. Whose hands will their blood be on if someone doesn't stop him?

there was one from Oregon. Not sure if she stayed. To be balanced here, tough to get the top kids to leave the schools they were committed to ,or at, for Oklahoma.

Looks like she came with the asst coach Mertz from Oregon- both have now left OU - Mertz
lasted one year and got the hell out of dodge- the player you referred to has transferred out to play somewhere else

Since Gough has now been named, I will vouch for him. I know him and his family personally. My kid played for him. He is publically vocal about injustices on anyone and everyone. He will call a spade a spade. That's why I have had trouble accepting all of the OU story as fact.

Now, the player spending the night at Carr's house... I cannot think of one instance where that is acceptable or okay in any manner. I have serious concerns about that (and the related photos).

All of the rest, threatening scholarships, telling them they aren't worth the money, taking money from injured players. It happens on many teams. My kid's mid-major coach regularly barks (literally) at players and refers to them as dogs, all while telling them to ignore medical advice, but encouraging them to participate in the approved social justice message flavor of the day. In all honesty, I started watching these threads because there was word that his contract was going to be terminated. Does this crappy behavior influence mental health? Absolutely, yes. It's a culture that was been allowed and continues to be allowed and there is no easy fix or answer.

I do not want to start a new thread, so just to have fun (and be irritating?) here are some numbers peripherally related to this thread because they have to do with gender:

With less than a month until the first counting games of the 2022 Fall season:

32 schools have not yet posted their women’s soccer schedules.

Of the 32, 21 have football. All of those schools have posted their football schedules, except for one.

Of the 32, 20 have men’s soccer. 6 of those have posted their men’s schedules, the other 14 have not. (I have not counted how many of the men’s teams have not posted schedules where the counterpart women have.)

This may or may not say much about how men’s and women’s soccer are treated in relation to each other. It seems to say quite a bit about how men’s football and women’s soccer are treated in relation to each other. Of course, I guess we already know how much men’s football means as compared to women’s soccer.

If you're a young man who would like to be a head coach someday, go to Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. If you're a young woman, go to one of the Top 10 Countries in The Gender Equality Index, especially countries led by young, motorcycle jacket-wearing and rock-music festivals attending female Prime Ministers like Sanna Marin and Kaja Kallas. If you stay in the States, you'll be corrupted by its pay-to-play system.

Mate there is so much frustration in this little post. I say this, not trying to poke fun on an anonymous forum, but with real concern. Go talk to someone...therapist or friend, doesn't matter. Just talk to someone before you take your anger out in the wrong way.
