Remember this miss? Vini never convinced me and I will repeat myself once again. This is NOT Real Madrid quality. He would excel in midtable la liga teams though.

Oh look. He had a bad miss like every world class player have had. Good that it didn't matter in the end and he had scored an amazing goal in the first leg.

I gave up on Vini at some point last year, but he won me over again. 20 goals + 20 assists for a mid table laliga team? Come on bro.

I don't think Vinicius is as good as most people around here think, but your evaluation is pretty harsh. The most important thing is that he has incredible heart and work ethic to go along with that ball skill. His finishing has significantly improved, and with his confidence it will continue improving in the next seasons. Sure there will be fluctuations, his output will drop in periods, and I don't really expect that he will be 20goals + 20 assists player every year. But he creates danger for the opponents goal. He's earned his spot through hard work. You have to appreciate that.

He's had his first good (great) season as a professional player. Let's hope he keeps improving.

Now that Mbappe is no longer an option, we need the best Vinicius more than ever. Hopefully, he's up for the task.

    Come on, really?
His finishing this season has been leagues better than before. He's getting better at making runs off the ball as well.
His dribbling, workrate already are top class.
This season is no fluke and his attacking output will only get better once we add a good attacking LB to the team.

The question is if Vini stops progressing, and plays with the same form as he did this season for the rest of his Madrid career, will fans be satisfied with his development?

I think a lot of his weaknesses are forgiven on the basis that he will continue improving, but what if he doesn't?

It comes down to whether the club wins titles and Vini's relative role in them. If he misses a sitter in the final and the team loses the match, then the usual suspects will come out to write him off, which is fine if he had not already completely overdelivered this season to begin with.

I think his greatest strength is his productivity and his instinct to, at some point, influence the game with a key pass, assist, or goal. If the team makes use of his ability to continue winning titles, then I'm okay with this Vini 2.0. Anything beyond is a plus, as much as I'd love to see him refine his ball-carrying.

We have a 21-year old wide attacker who had a combined 20 goals and 20 assists in both major competitions (CL and La Liga) and people are still talking about forgiving his weakness, etc..

Seriously if you can't enjoy Vinicius or admit you were wrong about him you're the problem not Vini.

Some people are just miserable and can't even try to enjoy life.

If he “only” did 20 goals and 20 assists every season for the rest of his career he will be the greatest pure winger I have ever seen.

Vini Jr is the only other player not named Karim Benzema who has double digit assists and goals in La Liga this season. Everyone needs to stop feeding the troll. Vini is having a masterclass of a season. He's only 21, so if he keeps to this trajectory, he'll be world class, if he isn't already.

The hardest part is sustaining that level of production. Nobody knows what the future holds, so there's no point in arguing what may happen because they know as little as anybody else.

I didn't think Vini would progress so quickly this year, that's for sure.

Regarding misery, talking about weaknesses, etc., I don't know about that one chief. It's a football forum, you only get a small sliver of how people experience this sport and its characters (unless you're Realist, who is obviously trolling). Some of his biggest critics don't really post about him all that much lately.

Personally, Vini is my favourite player, and I'm absolutely looking forward to dump my savings to watch him play live someday.

For the first half of the season, Vini was playing like a top 5 player on the planet.

For the second half, he’s regressed substantially. But you can only use the word “regress” because the baseline was set so high. Still been very very good.

Exciting to see where he goes from here. He’s still so young so a lot of what I’d like to see improve (namely not getting frustrated and goaded by opposing players and spending less focus on the ref) will come with time.

IMO he didn't/has not "regressed", opposing teams started to pay more attention to him making it tougher for him, so, he had/has to find another gear to to move up to, to be able to deal with that, a stellar season all around anyway, still young, still learning, still growing and having a season like that, awesome.

To put his season into perspective. Hazard has only once in his career had a 20G 20A season and he was deemed one of the greatest wingers in Chelsea and EPL history. His 20G 20A was during his last season for Lille.

Idk what it is about this kid that makes people doubt him so much

He is a world class player already at freaking 21. If he never improves he would still put up historic career numbers, especially since he is a fitness freak and likely to play for a long time.

and for our moneys worth, I’d rather have Vini than Mbappe.

Who are these people that are doubting him "so much?"

I'm starting to think people have their panties in a twist as a result of the Mbappe failure. Our guys are clearly good enough.

Vinicius is world class but the fact remains is that he is almost just 22 with what feels like a lot of room to grow. But it's very likely that this is the finished product.

Ronaldo, who was the best player in the world for many years, had his weaknesses as well. It's not a big deal to talk about them.

    Relax.

Was Benzema or Modric the finished product at 22?

Squad is much more balanced with a LW who helps press and wins the ball back. Jr isn't as good as Mbappe but it would definitely impact the narrative if Jr won the CL this weekend and WC with Brazil....

The fact that this is his first season where he's doing what he's supposed to do.

Immense improvement this season, but let's wait for him to produce similar displays consistently before calling him balon dor winner and what not.

Hazard carried a substandard Chelsea on his back , winning the most MoTM awards, earning more points for his team than anyone else, for a DECADE.
Vini has to do a lot yet to get into the comparison tbh

He's an exciting player, who is already world class at 21. What a deal we have struck in hindsight.

Maybe people 'doubt' him, because the basics sometimes look so unnatural? His passing and shooting; it sometimes looks as if he'll trip doing these basic things. But hey, he doesn't. In fact, he scores and assists!

My theory is because he plays for us, people watch him every single min of every game, seeing the good and the bad, the explosion in quality has been so great and sudden they can't quite believe it, i figure some would have the same doubts about others if they did the same, personally i have no doubts
