He was at the US U20 camp in late April. Koleosho has been named to the Canada's provisional roster for the U20 CONCACAF Championships in June. Its unclear whether he'll make their roster for the event, because they also have some very talented attacking youngsters. He's only 17, so he's even pretty young for the U20 level. For all we know he'll be on the US' provisional roster too. I haven't seen our 60-man provisional roster. His inclusion would depend on the availability of our elite U20s. No U20 has to be released. You wouldn't pick Koleosho over Kevin Paredes, so............................ What our U20s lack is a true #9 (assuming Ricardo Pepi isn't going to be used). We feel pretty good everywhere else on the field. Maybe a CB partner for Justin Che, depending on how folks feel about Jalen Neal. CB is typically a late developing position.
Could be real, could be nothing... we've seen with the latest USMNT roster that these social media accounts (lumping them together, although some more accurate than others) are pretty much 50/50 with their info. The USMNT 🇺🇸 could lose a very talented and not very often talked about dual nat as early as this week…— Tactical Manager (@ManagerTactical) May 24, 2022 Mexico has already announced their roster right, which dual nats are connected to countries that haven't yet? Let the speculation begin!
Not gonna lie it would be a real bummer to lose a player I first heard about two days ago... like finding money under your couch cushion but it's from Zimbabwe
We literally can't win 'em all. Our pool is expanding and expanding and expanding. Only so many opportunities. On the youth forums some are unhappy about Edison Azcona of Inter Miami choosing to represent the Dominican Republican. He's been called up to their senior team for the Nations League. Not far from being permanently cap-tied. Called up: Edison Azcona Called Up by Dominican Republic - MIAMI SAVES All Berhalter does is rack up a high percentage of the "high profile" guys. Next up is Jonathan Gomez. If we lose a guy "not often talked about" then how can we be upset about that?
I read it as him saying it’s not for the U20s, which I read as Canada calling up Koleosho for the full team.
That’s possible, but I doubt he gets capped. From everything I’ve heard were he to pick between the US and Canada, he’d pick the US. And Koleosho isn’t making Canada’s WC roster based on one appearance in a meaningless late season game. Honestly I was thinking someone more like Aaron Herrera. Koleosho Received a lot of buzz recently, and he was in the last u20 camp.
When it comes to content creators like Tactical, it’s a always a mix of a little bit of truth with some clickbait. It’s realistic Kolosho will get a call up to Canada’s full team so they can get a look. Does this mean “We’ve lost a dual national” and that’s he’s made his final international decision? Probably not, but US and El Tri content creators have started to realize that claiming this brings in loads of engagement and clicks Putting on my tin foil hat for minute, sure seems likely this information was passed on to tactical from someone connected to Kolosho considering they had him on the channel recently, and then let him leak it to Twitter. Almost feels like someone is trying to drum up interest. /Tinfoil hat off
By the way, we've had that on the youth boards of Big Soccer. Agents actually posting a lot about their players just to get their kid talked about. Famous ones. They know that many of the media types post on Big Soccer, and follow the youth boards for new names. Then stories are written and their players are discussed. There are sooooooooooooooo many tweets and stories written about these young prospects. So many turn out to be wrong. Particularly any tweet from a Mexico our Central American-based media outlet about a dual-national. Everyone should go back and read all of the Mexico-based content about Ricardo Pepi. Take all of that with a grain of salt like we take any silly season transfer rumor with a grain of salt.
Names are starting to creep out for the US U20 CONCACAF Championships roster. Here's one we weren't necessarily expecting. Mexican-American dual-nat Alejandro Alvarado. Alejandro plays in Portugal for the same team as Alex Mendez. Alvarado was with the U16s before so he's not new to the USYNT.Not being in a camp this cycle, yet getting the call for U20 World Cup qualifiers, means the USSF likely had the intention to call him up before but Vizela did not let him go. Good to see he wasn't being overlooked. https://t.co/CxQMP0nxum— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) May 25, 2022
By the way, Mexico is having a camp right now for 2007s and 2008s in the US. Kind of clandestine as no roster was ever released. Here's what we know........... Alexander Aguilar, DC United James Arteaga, LAFC (with US U15s in Feb 2022) Aiden Benitez, Indy Eleven Axel Gonzalez, Houston Dynamo Christian Gonzalez, LAFC Gustavo Gonzalez, LA Galaxy (with US U15s in Jan 2022) Idahir Deanda, Columbus Crew Lalo Estrada, Houston Dynamo Jhostyn Jimenez, Columbus Crew Stiven Jimenez, FC Cincinnati (with US U15s in Feb 2022) Jonathan Martinez, FC Dallas (with US U15s in Jan 2022) Carlos Melo, Chicago Fire Jose Moreno, Houston Dynamo Bruce Quinones, Colorado Rapids Sebastian Rodriguez, Houston Dynamo Joshua Santiago, LAFC (with US U15s in Feb 2022)
It sounds like it someone who is Canadian American though which would not leave a ton of names. It's smart by Canada if they do call up Koleosho. He probably wasn't leaning up their way for the U20s, but he's also not going to turn down a call up for the full national team. It's more likely however that he's training with the team versus actually getting capped in the Nations League.
They always hold camps here. In houston they come once or twice a year to run camps and scrimmages against local youth clubs for recruiting purposes.
Indeed. These are young dual-nationals. Many kids in this position try out both organizations to see where they feel they "fit" better. Ultimately these camps don't mean anything. They're not cap-tying in any way.....................

I was really hoping for a shining WC performance combined with an El Tri prat fall to motivate kids to stick with us, but El Tri's per usual gift of a draw means that's unlikely for them, they'll get two prestigious games (Argentina, and likely vs France) and get dumped on their rears in the R16's. Maybe Lewandowski can somehow save us and give them a 3 and out, finally. We've got to do the goods ourselves as well though, and I don't know if that would move the needle, as usual, all my students of Mexican heritage, are El Tri #1, and I think it's no different for the teen dual nats, they watch Liga MX, they watch El Tri, they don't follow us beyond our big club guys (in that arena it would help to get more guys on Barcelona and Real Madrid, ha, I know, as those are the favorite teams of nearly all these kids outside of Liga MX).
While I agree in principle, I want USSF to to be doing everything that other national teams do... there's no special prize for taking the high road, no one but a few internet nerds even remembers how such things went down in the long run. Big news for 🇺🇸 fans is that dual-nat Luca Koleosho is included. Congrats to him, but this feels a little predatory and rash after losing Marcelo Flores. If this is how 🇨🇦 wants to win these battles, that's fine, but Luca is not ready for this level. U20 team is more appropriate. https://t.co/pTS2XNJln1— Marcus Chairez (@chai_asc) May 25, 2022 Obviously I'm not talking about this case specifically, no I would not want some kid I first heard about last weekend called up to the US roster... but we can't just ignore that this is what other countries (here our two biggest rivals and direct competitors for dual nats, Mexico with Flores and Canada with our kid Koleosho) are doing!
I feel like time will tell if this is predatory or not for Canada. It’s not an exact comparison, but this strikes me more akin to what we did with Musah by fast tracking him to the full national team to get him to commit to us. Not that Koleosho is that sort of player, but this doesn’t strike me as Canada trying to cap him and forget about him. I could be wrong about that of course, but it’s also not clear if he’s going to play in any of the Nations League games for them either.
Thank you for saying this. I agree 100%. Reputation (good or bad) depreciates quickly, and much of it dies with the coaching regime.
I highly doubt Luca gets capped. Yes, he made his La Liga debut, but that was in a meaningless last game of the season as a stoppage time sub. He’s only played 34 minutes for the B team. He’s nowhere near ready for international duty. I’d bet he’s just being invited to check out the camp and train. Just a recruiting tactic. Keep him away from the US u20 and get in his ear.
Just as an FYI. Koleosho won’t be in camp the entire time with Canada. Still part of their push. He was with USYNTs last month https://t.co/D7NB1Jf73A— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) May 26, 2022
