I think the only thing going for Salah is that there is no real market for him.

Liverpool may decide to let him walk since where is he going to go? PSG was his destination, but that’s gone.

He won’t go to City or Chelsea, they are full there. Man U, probably not since they want youth.

Maybe Newcastle, but they would have to make him the highest paid player in the PL.

No to Barca or Bayern. The Italian clubs can’t afford him.

If we could get him for a 3 year deal and a transfer for 50million, it’s worth doing. He may push for it for the reasons above.

Salah is excellent and I think he’d be great for us, but I am a little concerned about his skill set as he ages, the cost, and recent injuries. Can’t really see it happening tbh.

Salah is turning 30 in a month. Why is he even being discussed as an option?

Did we not learn from Hazard? Are we that desperate (and stupid) to give another club the money to rebuild while they give us an aged player we hope can keep his best form entering his 30s?

    Hard no thanks.

I don’t like a lot of options honestly. Signing any of the youngsters seems like a high risk and long term commitment with contract length.

I’d seriously consider ringing up Cristiano or Zlatan if they would come for one year. Sure it’s big wages but for a season, they are professional still can nick a goal and provide coverage for Benz.

Vinicius will almost certainly never reach Mbappe's level. You're expecting too much from the Brazilian.

What are you talking about? Salah was crap in this year's AFCON & massively underperformed compared to what he does in Liverpool. Perhaps you're the one not watching him play?

Anyway, Salah was never as good as he was now before joining Liverpool. Kloop's system has definitely made Salah look way better than he is. I'm not sure Salah would be equally brilliant anywhere else.

An almost 41-year-old Zlatan is a glorified cheerleeder at this stage of his career.

As for Cristiano, he won't return to Real Madrid unless Perez gives him an obscene salary.

I know he's arguably the GOAT in Real Madrid, but a past-his-prime Cristiano would break the wage structure. Vinicius might demand a way bigger contract than measly €10m/year contract he got offered from Perez and start looking elsewhere.

Right now, we are kind of desperate. And yeah a little stupid for putting all of our plans on Mbappe and trusting him.

I agree, I don’t want Salah at all. We should be thinking what can we do for 1 or 2 years as a stop gap so we don’t panic buy. But any player with a good price or contract would be worth entertaining.

Pool has Fabinho, Thiago and Henderson who are younger than KCM midfield. Naby Keita finally found form as well. And Klopp has so many attackers that 4-3-3 is given while we have been playing KCM and Fede on the right.

We would get more from Zlatan than Jovic and Mariano combined currently. He would be affordable and not a long term commitment. Same could be said for Cristiano - as I do think he would be willing to take a pay cut for one more shot at a CL.

Carlo speaks French. He probably might have called him and offered an important role. Not like Klopp can offer him starting spot right away unless he lies. Thiago and Fabinho are certain starters. Henderson is the darling of Liverpool and English media. Won player of the year award in 2019-20. No way Tchouameni looks at that and thinks starting there is straight forward.

The problem isn't the number of midfielders, Klopp doesn't have a problem benching any of his midfielders as we've seen many times, Carlo is married to the KMC.

I agree. I like our strategy of only spending big money on younger bets, then looking for value in the 23-28 year range.

How are you so sure about this?
Given Vinnie's technical ability, I would say his ceiling is higher. Mbappe is much more reliant on his pace to beat defenders.
Of course I can't say if he has the mentality to reach the top level, but certainly the potential is there to become the best one day.
I am not sure why you underestimate him.

Flo doesn't intervene in these matters anymore, and good on him, even if in some case it's annoying to us fans.

Klopp doesn't drop Henderson or Fabinho anymore than Carlo rests KCM. New midfielders got to earn their spot from system players. Thiago finally started playing like he has at Bayern. Took Naby a few years to find good form as well. Wijnaldum leaving probably helped those two.

Because Mbappe was already a World Cup winner at his age. Moreover, he lacks the athleticism and explosiveness Mbappe has.

Look we all hate what Mbappe did, but let's not fool ourselves. He's an elite player any team would love to have.

I am not saying he is not elite. Actually for at least 2 years I've seen him as the best player in the world. And he still is.
Does this mean that Vinnie has no chance to become better player in 2 years or at least be on the same level? I can't see why not.

No more “transition years” or stop gaps or keeping our powder dry IMO. Madridistas deserve an earnest effort to compete year in and year out. It doesn’t mean you make desperation signings or bad deals just to make them. But if there’s a lesson to be learned from the last six months it’s that you don’t build plans around players that may or may not come in the future.

We have the best player on earth, a veteran midfield with hungry, elite, young competitors, a back line that should be very solid at least on paper, and the best GK. The mentality inside the dressing room is phenomenal. The club should be aiming to win a treble next season.

I may be misreading, if you guys are simply saying we don’t have to sign someone young and expensive I totally agree. But you simply can’t plan around Haaland or whoever else. It was always a fool’s errand, as several of us pointed out over the last few years.

Carlo didn't even start rotating KMC until the end of the season when it was clear we were about to win the league. We were all here complaining about his lack of rotation.
KMC are more untouchable than any of Liverpool's midfielders, I hope Tchouameni joins but that's a fact.

Benzema is 34, Lewandowski is 33. Two of the best players on earth. No signs of slowing down.

I actually agree that a guy with Salah’s skill set may not age well. But the lesson from the Hazard deal isn’t not to sign any 30+ yo, it’s not to overpay for a guy with a history of fitness issues. I mean I think you and I both liked the player and also said it was a bad bad deal at the time.

There’s way too much focus on youth nowadays IMO. We’re already a very young team in key positions.

    What’s the option then?

Pay a ton for an older established player on the downslope of their career with a 5 year contract = Salah

Pay a ton for a young unproven player who may or may not pan out with a commitment of a 5-6 year contract = Nuñez, Nkuku….

Or, find a veteran who could come for one season and not tie up long term contracts or large transfer fees
