Taxi influential once again, Osorio could have seen red, and once again we lack the tactical sophistication to close out a lead. Ugh.
Drew Skunkrich: on the roster to play backpasses, miss his mark at crucial times, and make dc united fans feel generally hopeless because such a sorry excuse for a soccer player sees the field.
Bill Hamid tried his hardest lose that game. Moments before that bad save. He almost passed ot straight to them. Maybe he's still not fit.
Jesus H. Fvcking Christ on a Crutch. Hamid has to control that ball. FFS. I had a feeling that was coming when whoever it was backpassed and almost got an assist for Toronto a couple minutes before the tying goal. This game should've been 3-0, instead we gifted them two goals.
An amazing combo of wasting opportunities and wilting under the slightest bit of pressure. Do we not touch the ball during the second halves of practices or something? We're not great on the ball at the best of times, but the number of shit giveaways between Durkin, Skundrich and Smith in the late going was embarrassing.
Is it just me or does Hines-Ike suck the big Juan these days? Another terrible game. No reason for that tie.
Chad Ashton is a f}^}^ing punk. Throwing players under the bus in postgame comments. What a sorry excuse. He’s like a rotten fish in this organization. Throw the bum out.
Flores' best half in his United career. And then he skips the 2nd half because, according to Goff, "Ashton said he was tired."
Might as well start the Preseason 2023 thread. Does anyone see anything coming out of this season? As for you looking towards the summer transfer window, suckers.
Shockingly, this isn't even a spoon-worthy effort from what I am seeing across the league and in the standings.
On Alfaro's dillyance and dallyance that led to first Toronto goal: “We’re in trouble — just throw the thing in the other end,” Ashton said. “Let’s get organized and let’s defend.” On Hamid and Toronto goal #2: “We need somebody to step up and make saves, bail us out rather than give up a rebound,” Ashton said. “We’re giving up soft goals. Yeah, he should be able to push that rebound out wide. Is it easy to do? No, but he’s more than capable.”
Rough, yes. But is he wrong? Those were 2 AWFUL plays. And the scary thing is that there were others that went unpunished. The entire team went into full-on backpass mode the last 10-15 minutes. That simply isnt the way to close out a game. Is Ashton responsible for that mentality? I do not know. But watching guys literally try to force 50 yard backpasses to the keeper -- while Toronto players are lurking between the passer and the keeper -- should not be happening no matter what the coach has told you.
Nope. Maybe some of these guys need to be called out. Seriously, if Hamid thought he had more than a snow cone's chance in hell of possibly getting a look for a MNT call up with the recent poor form with Steffen, playing like that isn't going to get him there. Steffen is more than capable of making plays like that.
They scored two goals and could have scored more, they did enough on that end to win the game. That's the positive. Alfaro had a meltdown, I don't know what to do about that other than don't play him. This team's margins are so thin they can't afford a stinker from Smith or Hines-Ike. Durkin is chasing shadows. Hamid could do better. Can he hold some of these shots? At least soften the ball to the ground and fall on it? He seems parry happy. The team needs more mettle and more skill in the middle. A summer DP has to play a role in there, I think.
I think this pretty well sums it up. We've got too many substandard players in key contributing roles. And for that, I mostly blame ownership. We've to rookies playing roles that are far too big for them in the grand scheme of their development. We've got too many guys on this roster, who wouldn't' make more teams than they would. Every team has to have a couple of these guys we have a few too many. If Chad believed his comments, I'd expect to see Romo start the next game. While it's the first shot across the bow, a number of us have been voicing concerns for a while in regard to Bill's poor form which has now carried over from last season. The lack of prior cover and competition in this sport is a massive failure, not just because Bill needed to be pushed, Bill has demonstrated some injury susceptibility. Edited to add, WTF is wrong VAR? There was a first half handball that everyone from the Chico stand all the way around to my midfield section saw it. Birnbaum saw it. It was right before the hydration break.
And yet again we drop points because we suck right at the end of the halves For nearly half the games, we've had horrid melt-downs at the end of the halves - And we're dropping points like crazy - What the heck ever happened to coaching? - Some of this can be put to lack of leadership on the field, but somebody is telling the players to stop attacking and to stop supporting attacking runs - I remember about 10 years ago under Olsen the same thing happened throughout the season, but he turned things around 180 the next year - This part of soccer ain't rocket science - Its mentality
Damn, if I play for a team who has a hard time scoring, say a long scoreless streak - or if I am having trouble winning or tying games, especially road games .... I cannot wait to come to Audi Field.
