I'm not a big Arriola fan but I agree. I think Paul might have more quickness in that role which is at least as important as speed at the high end.
Like this roster, honestly. Of course would have loved to see Pomykal in. Happy to see Scally FINALLY in.
Right before the WC Brooks and GB will hold a press conference where they announce they have been best friends for years and both were having a blast with the press and the fans about not getting callups. Berhalter will the. announce him for the WC and name him captain. Heads will explode
So a dude who can't even get a game in the Bund is getting called over Brooks, who at least hasn't been "permanently" dropped. At least Mihailovic got called. Haji deserves the call too. Why does Roldan keep getting called? Oh I forgot. Vibes.
Some plain speaking reactions to the Brooks decision on other social media. If I had one wish it wouldn’t be about including this or that player. I would wish that Gregg wasn’t so slavishly devoted to his system, and placed a higher value on tactical flexibility. If he had that, the indefensible roster selection problem would straighten itself out.
Yes he has, but the question with Roldan remains, can he do it against higher level competition than what he faces weekly in MLS... I'm not so sure he can. Playing extremely well in MLS is not the standard for the USMNT, see Conor Casey, Steve Ralston, Brad Davis, Chad Marshall, Wondo, etc. etc. Let's see if Roldan gets a good chunk of minutes against a non-minnow in these games...
Well of course playing extremely well in MLS is not the standard for the USMNT. BUT its a damn good start. Mind boggling to me how much crap people throw out at Roldan and Arriola which best I can tell is its almost entirely because they are playing in MLS and not Europe so therefore they must not be good enough. So tired of that whole attitude (not saying you have it at all).
…and he is the victim. Don’t forget that. You victimized him and are repressing him. Sad, sad person.
I think it also has to do with their ages.... If they were young MLS players performing this well for their club teams then it would be about the future as well. That being said... it isn't like they are old. At any rate... overall I think Arriola has done well enough for club and country to warrant a consistent call up. Roldan had a couple of assists in the GC... but other than that hasn't made much of an impact.... albeit in limited minutes.
He’s played a lot of soccer over the past year. MLS started in April, by the time he transferred to Venezia, preseason friendlies were almost over and the season was about to begin. He needs the rest.
