You guys forgot our legendary DM and the answer to the problem... Pablo Garcia! Just for emphasis I am not talking about Javi Garcia (from the academy) Talk about a different time. I still panick everytime we buy a DM.
We were hunting at the bargain bins for DM's at that time. Pablo Garcia, the killer of all our counter attacks.
That mid 2000s was peak Mou ball, 4-2-3-1 and DMs were all the rage. Watching Mahamoudu Diarra, Gago and Baptista play together was like watching bricklayers play the piano.
I will not stand idly by and have anyone slander the great Momo Diarra. Bans incoming. How can you forget he did this. He can get a plate at my house anytime for that goal alone.
Baptista scored one of the most unforgettable goals at the Camp Nou as it was called back then. Legend.
I found this video of the full match where Marcelo made his debut. Both Ronaldo 9 and Marcelo came on as a sub on 1:00 mark. The match was R9's last appearance with Real Madrid. It was the beginning and the end of an era for Real Madrid. So Marcelo is the last player on the team to have played with R9, Beckham and Roberto Carlos (Roberto Carlos did play with Marcelo later in a match against Getafe). https://www.transfermarkt.com/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/58580
Legend in my eyes (I’m half-joking). Guy wasn’t the silkiest but he busted his ass out there every match. I loved him.
Marcelo looks liked somebody who is good with kids, but he is probably too good to accept a role in the academy coaching younger kids.
I don't see Marcelo coaching - but he's such a great representative of the club and you can tell he's good with people, it would be a shame not to have him around the players at some capacity.
Marcelo might be the captain, but the coach does not have to ask for his opinion. It said a lot about Ancelotti's as a coach, but there must be a reason why Ancelotti was talking to the pair. Not all veteran players know what they were doing. Bobby Moore and Roy Keane were great captains, but known for his bad coaches. The video could mean nothing. Marcelo might happen to be standing next to the coach when he turned around. According to reports, Ancelotti wanted to clarify if he had made two subs. However, it might mean that Marcelo and Kroos know what they were doing and Ancelotti respected their opinions. Some players such as Pep were giving opinions when they were active players. I do believe Zidane was one of them too. So it is very possible that Marcelo does have a gift in coaching. Who knows.
If this was the last, Farewell Marcelo, i enjoyed every moment, will be odd seeing the squad without him in it, one of my favourite players
Same salute to this legend who brought skill and character for so many years at Madrid. Goes out head held very high too. For that I am very glad.
I love Marcelo. If that is his time done, overall I put him above Carlos. For us. They are both greats though.
To be honest, this didn't quite seem like a farewell. Almost felt like Marcelo knows there might be a chance he will be back next season.
My Spanish is not great, but I think Marcelo just confirmed this was his last game in our jersey. I know he wanted to be renewed, so it is hard for me to see him cry. This is not a goodbye, this is a "until next time". Thank you Marcelo for amazing memories, incredible team spirit, professionalism, leading by example, and all the funny moments you brought to the dressing room. God bless you and your family. Please come back in some capacity soon. There has to be some room for our most decorated player of all time.
Little that we knew when the teenager we signed as understudy of Roberto Carlos would move on to become the winningest Madrid player of all time.
That's over 26 years of having a Brazilian left back. Scouting team, get busy. We already have Brazilian wingers, we need a left back ASAP
