I think we have. He’s already walking around with the flag. Plus, there is more incentives to play for Argentina than Spain.

Does anyone have any thoughts on Carlos Jonás Alcaraz (19 year old midfielder for Racing).

I read one of these (probably bogus stories most likely pushed by his representatives) that some European clubs are closely keeping close tabs on him.

I don't recall anyone discussing him

Interestingly enough, he’s got the same name as an up and coming tennis star.

But here is an article about the kid from Racing. I haven’t watched Racing really play a great deal, so I can’t say.

Here is a list of the Toulon tournament.

It will be worth a watch. Let’s see how the kids do.

Shame Barco is not in this set up. Lack of playing time ? Genez gets in ahead of him. And no Simon ? Is Nicolas related to Agustin ?

Mascherano has also put into place some excellent rules. The kids will have to clean their own boots, read books, get a good education. All this in addition to working hard and with feet planted on the ground.

Masche was a model professional and incredibly hard worker but so so humble. It's superb that he is working with the kids. He was always listening to coaches from Pekerman onwards absorbing information and I am sure he will make an excellent manager as well one day even for the seleccion.

The tournament will take place in France between 29 May and 12 June. For Argentina, here are the matches:

Argentina vs. Saudi Arabia – May 29
Argentina vs. Panama – June 1
Argentina vs. France – June 6

Obviously, the June 6 game is the "the Game"

The teams in this tournament are Saudi Arabia, Panama, France, Argentina, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Algeria, Comoros, Ghana, Colombia and Venezuela.

Needs to release the ball earlier, get more upper body strength and sometimes be a little more patient and get that head up or just recycle the ball. It'll come with coaching and playing.

Lost 6-2 to France today, both goals scored by Garnacho. But no positives. The French soccer player seemed to be older than our players; Mbuku (20 yrs), Mara (19 yrs), Aklioche (20 yrs) and Aouchiche (19 yrs) all the French players were either 19 or 20. Whereas most of our players are under 19 years of age; Garnacho is 17 years old. I am not sure if made much of a difference, the French side has a lot of talent.

Mascherano has some work to do.

I still would not mind seeing Beccacece work alongside Masche as a more experienced head. The plan has to be for the success at u20 and moving players into the seleccion is resumed after some awful years.

Garnacho like some of his peers in this team are younger than their opponents by a margin and also in strength.

The selections by Masche were a bit off and after having Perez who did really well in the last half of the season with Udinese, Genez and di Lollo are an accident waiting to happen. Not great for Boca.....

Next years tournament will be ? and the finals in Indonesia so perhaps RH can go along and watch assuming we qualify.

We need to improve our performances again back to they heyday under Pekerman and Tocalli. And I hope the club v country issue that has dogged recent selections is now amicable so that the best players turn up to play for the u20.

The youth side finished the tourney with a win againts Japan. Garnacho managed to get 4 goals + 1 assist in as many game. All his goals has been a quality, he definetely has an X factor. Still delivers even when the team didnt have a good game.

That's amusing in one sort of fashion. I would like Seba on board for his analytical skills. And Poch would have been a great fit for the u17/u20 roles. He's not that good at a big club but at bringing on youth he's excellent.

Shame the AFA under Don Julio managed to hide away their finances instead of getting people like him in to the set up.

Oh, wonderful, another one. Santiago Ramos Mingo just left Barcelona’s B team for free. These transfers hardly ever pan out. It is better if they just stay in Argentina and develop by playing first division football.

Today (July 2022) who are the three (3) most promising players between age of 16-20 that you would bet all your money are going to real cracks in the next 5 years?

I think that my list is; (in this order)
    • Alejandro Garnacho
    • Santiago Simon
    • Gianluca Prestianni

Prestianni looks pretty special but he’s only 16. Maybe another year or two will give us a better understanding where he is or what he’ll become. But he does seem to have the traits of a gifted player.

I think Changuito needs an honorable mention. He is 20, like Simón, who has more flash in his game but at times he overthinks and I believe Simón has a higher IQ for the game as of right now.

Garnacho is one I’ll definitely keep my eye on and to see how he’ll develop this year. He’s apparently going to be with the first team. He’s got incredible speed and he’s got a ton of confidence.

But the other two I want to see is Luka and Soulé. I just hope they get real minutes. Both have great skills and I’ll be rooting for both. I like Luka because just because he reminds of our players from back in the day, where players just grew out their hair. What happened to the good ol days where growing out your hair was mandatory when you were Argentino… Now it is getting a sleeve at 16…. smh…

I was looking at the age profile ahead of the Copa 2024 and WC 2026 and the NT looks good in terms of age except for the LB position imo. Acuna and Tagliafico will be 32 and 31 respectively by the time the Copa 2024 comes around and I feel that this should be the tournament where the team should, at the very least, bed in a possible new LB starter into the squad for the WC 2026.

Hopefully Franco Carboni pans out or a new talent just pops up.

Barco will be 18 this year, so we will see. You never know who is going to pop up down the road.

I’m really interested in seeing Luka this year.

Valentino Fattore Scotta is a 20 year old RB who is with Sevilla. He played mostly with the second team last second but apparently could be bumped up to the first team this season. He has represented Spain in the Sub 20s before but is still eligible for us. He apparently has a bit of promise but he is still 20 going on 21 and is still in the second team. But who knows how he will develop. Also, he is the grandson of Gringo Scotta who is a legend for the Cuervo's.

Carlos Alcaraz (Racing) being linked with a possible move to Porto or Milan this transfer window

Milan supposedly already offered 12M, but Racing wants a figure around the 15-18M region

I was just looking at the highest purchases for Portuguese clubs. It is the Uruguayo, Darwin. Benfica paid 37 million, US, for his services. And he was sold to Liverpool for 75 ME. The second highest purchase was 24 million, US. The Darwin purchase is somewhat of an outlier because Enzo Fernandez is in their(Benfica’s) top 20 all time record purchases at a measly 11 million, US. They’ll surely flip him for quite a bit more down the road.

    https://www.transfermarkt.us/benfica-lissabon/transferrekorde/verein/294

Porto is even worse. Their highest purchase is 22 million. At one time, Lucho was their most expensive buy, when he arrived for 11 million in 05/06.

    https://www.transfermarkt.us/fc-porto/transferrekorde/verein/720

Alcaraz is an immense talent. He could turn out to be something special.

I’ve said it before and I’ll continue to say it again, our clubs need to refrain from selling to Portuguese clubs.

Those clubs in needs to thank their lucky stars that they get that Champions League money. Benfica and Porto exploit the weak economy in South America and just buy cheap and sell high. I would understand if they were dominant teams, who year after year were competing for European supremacy but their clubs do not even do well in the CL.
