Let’s take a moment to give Luis Diaz a mention. What a signing he was. Just four months in and he’s already pretty much a guaranteed starter in the biggest games and then gets man of the match in the FA Cup final. I’m sp excited to see what he has to offer next season pic.twitter.com/U3DtVa325A— Kop Corner ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (@KopCornerYNWA) May 14, 2022

So cool! Crack. pic.twitter.com/9fEb3C3MCS— Juez Central (@Juezcentral) May 14, 2022
It's kind of crazy that Diaz could be picking up an insane amount of winners medals this season. The league title for Liverpool is likely gone but FA cup, League cup and possible champions league plus Portuguese title is an amazing haul, and really he was sure important to Porto even if he missed the second half of the season for them.
Considering that it's Liverpool under Klopp, I am not surprised; they're easily one of the best in England and have their shit together unlike some teams.
This is a must read thread for Spanish speakers. A translation won't do it justice, but the gist of it: Luis Diaz, Mo Salah and Sadio Mané weren't developed at premier academies, they weren't privileged players, so much to overcome. Now the top strike force in world football. https://t.co/3mRf5PI2En— Felipe Cárdenas (@FelipeCar) May 19, 2022
With the amount of money Luis is earing, I really do help he can reinvest some of that money for soccer infrastructure development in Barrancas.
I agree, but the cities and country won't do it. So why not, pro athlete do it all the time for their communities.
HT for both top teams as City is surprisingly down a goal against Villa while Liverpool are tied after equalizing. This is gonna be quite the final match day!
Nothing they could do. Villa capitulated with some awful goal keeping by back up Robin Olsen aiding City to the trophy. I'm totally baffled STEVEN GERRARD had a chance to help Liverpool win the title and he gave Dibu Martinez the day off to rest for an Argentina friendly with Italy. Absurd. Anyway - Lucho and honestly, most of Liverpool, looked tired today. They really need to rest up this week and hopefully we see Lucho's best vs. Madrid.
Luis is starting...apparently he's the first Colombian to start in a Champions League final?? Wtf. I could have swear that Ivan Cordoba started for Inter back at the 2010 final but I guess not?
Some sketchy shit happening at the stadium? For some "reason" Liverpool fans suddenly only get one gate/entryway into the stadium and it's gotten so bad that they started to hop the fence.
Lucho played 65 min before being subbed by Jota He’s had better performances. Apparently he lost 10 duels today. He’s got a great future ahead of him at Liverpool
Carvajal came in with something to prove after weeks of being called out as the Achilles heel for Madrid and the refs let him kick Lucho around in the first half so he came up in confidence too. If he'd got the early yellow he merited I wonder if the game would have been different for Lucho. In any case, Madrid couldn't get out of their own half in the first 30 minutes of the game and so there wasn't much room for Lucho to work with.
Liverpool couldn't get Diaz on the ball in good areas that much yesterday, not Lucho's best performance but having Valverde down that side helped them defend a lot. Madrid took away Diaz being able to iso from wide and create havoc, gotta give it to them for neutralizing that side fairly well.
Diaz is a fabulous player and ideally suited to Liverpool but I don’t see him scoring too many goals .. I think he’s scored 4 in his 14 or 15 games so far
Just a matter of confidence. His goal rate at Porto was modest, similar to Liverpool with big contributions to game outside of goals, and then this fall it clicked and he was scoring almost a goal a game.
He's been there a half season and is playing with some really big established players. He will grow into his role, at this point its very clear that Salah and Mane were the main men for good reason, Diaz is a player and he will get better but mainly his role will expand over time imo. He did an amazing job but its difficult to step into that team.
