I was I was planning to wait as well to see if we could get better option but decided to take the plunge now instead cause was concern of the mad rush that would definitely occur on the 2nd Phase tickets. There might even be issues accessing the accommodation portal so I didn't want to take that risk. There are some good options now if you're looking for apartments. @vibrantcolours did give us some good options to look at. I'm pretty happy with what I've got now to be honest. Most important to me was being near to a metro station that is close by to the stadiums and food of course.
Masks now only indoors on public transport and in health settings, no need for unvaccinated people to test before entering public facilities and no checks on immune or vaccine status when entering public indoor areas, although a green Ehteraz status is still required.
It is for the round of 16 and the minimum requirement is 3 nights for apartment. But for some reason I am able to reserve it for 2 nights,
Good apartment options indeed, if you are travelling in 3-4 or more... for those travelling solo or in 2, the options are limited (or $$$$). I am taking the chance and waiting a bit, as the only option available for me is the village cabin, at the moment.
Actually for me it is pretty devestating to hear that so many things still stayed around. WHY FOR GOD'S SAKE? It is unbelievable.
Lots of cheap flights to abu dhabi and dubai from the states and i assume europe. you can then score a round trip for 300-500 now and get all in for 1500 or so for flight.... not bad. RT from Chicago to Dubai is like 600$ right now. RT from Dubia to Doha could get you the whole flight under 1k. You're not doing better than that.
Do you think there’s a possibility prices decrease even further if they add new flights? I’m looking at a DXB to DOH flight at $400 which I think is still a bit too high. For anyone attending the F1 race - I plan to catch a bit of the post-race concert and then heading straight to Dubai airport for a late flight to Doha.
not for dxb. dxb doha this summer which i assume is the low price season it never drops below 200 and 270 is common. Sharjah is a bit lower.... can drop as low as 160 it seems. AUH is the airport to fly cheap from. It appears to be the only one that goes down to 99. however, come winter, even AUH rarely drops before 200. demand for the route is going to be higher because of the world cup and F1 race. 270 is not a gouging price. I live in a city that lives and dies by 'events' and see flight prices always double during festivals, events and of course mardi gras. Spending an extra hundred for a flight during this time and having it locked and booked would give me a lot piece of mind.
No-one really knows; and all you'll get is opinions. However, my opinion is NO to lower prices from UAE or SA. These are very wealthy countries that can sustain high prices for just about everything. For example; the Spanish SuperCup is in the region because the region will pay more money. That's the only reason! It's very likely UAE and SA residents will fly-in daily to catch a game and fly-out the next day. Basic economics says to me higher prices. But again; that's my opinion.
looks like there will be 2 bus hubs to stadiums on game days as well. http://www.theworldcupguide.com/potential-qatar-2022-stadium-bus-service-options/ The apartments we went with is 20 minute walk from one of the hubs... could make life a bit easier for us.
Let's hope they are being strict now to get the covid cases very low in time for the World Cup. Trust me that they are terrified of a big covid breakout during the world cup - for fans, workers and players. Unless covid falls off the face of the Earth, we are going to see restrictions all the way thru the World Cup. Anyone who thinks they will drop all the BS has a surprise coming. This is the biggest negative to this world cup - having to wear a face mask EVERYWHERE.
Abu Dhabi has marginally better flight times, arriving 5:50pm on game day and leaving 2:15am the morning after. Abu Dhabi has slightly better times, landing 5:50pm game day and departing 2:15am afterwards. Still not sure if that's enough though, or worth the stress
Thanks for this information. What makes Al Thumama different that you would consider taking a car to that stadium as opposed to the others?
https://topworldfootball.com/meet-t...ord-for-attending-the-most-world-cup-matches/. Gary , you the man buying the £64 rounds
32 games is too easy in doha. two friends of mine plan going for 35 at least. 34 are piece of cake btw, everyone with sufficient funds can do that! I am sure there will be people going to more games than that, though no clue what the maximum doable will be (with rules being there from kickoff to the end of the game)
Thumama is in the middle of a residential district. And it does not have direct metro. We have to take feeder busses. I feel i can find spots opposite the stadium where i can park my car and cross the road to reach the stadium, will be faster for me. i also stay 10 min from the stadium, so dont want to go by metro and take a feeder bus which is going to take me more time. 974 is only 15 min drive for me, but considering the proximity of the metro i will take the metro for that one. Its just a personal choice. Also i have tickets for M2 on day one, so i can easily test it out.
Yeah I would say that at least 36 are doable and possibly over 50 is possible if you're loaded and have a little luck with the transit situation. The 3 hrs between kick-offs is a little tight for certain stadiums, but it hard to gauge whether your own private pick up and drop off would get you from one to the next in time... Not sure how the record trackers would know whether you left early or arrived late however... 32 won't cut it I suspect but the devil is in the details!
I plan on a good number of 2-match days with 6pm and 10pm kick offs. I worry that connection time will still be tough due to the long walks and long cues at the metro (and grabbing a bite in between). Taking Ubers probably won't help either because either they won't be readily available or they will have to drop you off very far from the stadium. I also worry that the crowd control will take 30 to 45 min to enter the stadium once one has arrived. I hate crowd control - it ALWAYS makes one take longer than needed. I get the feeling that Qatar will be insanely slow, with separate lines for women etc...
They'll easily triple or quadruple the Metro capacity. Moscow was pretty effective. A train ran every minute or so during games and I can't see Qatar running a normal train schedule during the games. I understand the entire country will be at a standstill during the cup. Even car traffic will be limited to 1car per Qatari family.
Just thought I would add my routing to the options other folks have booked or are looking at. I got LHR-RUH going out and DOH-JED-LHR return on Saudi Airlines, for £550. I guess this applies mainly for those coming from UK. That price is still available if you play around with the dates. Getting into DOH on a flight from RUH is nigh on impossible especially as I will be getting into Doha just before the Argentina-KSA match. Riyadh to Doha is around a 6 hour drive. Contacted various car hire companies and they won't allow you to drive the car cross border. There will be taxi or private driver options. I also heard that during the Arab Cup there were buses laid on from the KSA-Qatar border (at Salwa).
