The final score is: 3 - 2 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G P.S. = Please don't post results of other soccer (including MLS) games and other sports' games in this thread until at least 24 hours after they've ended.
1. Send Seattle fans home mad. Check 2. Send Portland fans home mad. Check 3. Send Galaxy fans home mad 6/25. Hopefully check And only 2 points out of a playoff spot......
One big change I'm seeing in the Quakes under Covelo is that they don't get disrupted from their game plan as easily. They don't collapse when they concede a goal, they don't play as lethargically in general. I don't know if that's just the temporary bump of trying to impress the new person in charge or what, but it's nice to see, in any case.
I thought TT was going to score a highlight goal. Man he danced right through the center of the defense. That would have been awesome. Biggest groan of the night. So close…..
We had a number of times that someone seemed to be in a perfect position to take a shot, waffled for a microsecond, and the chance was gone.
I kind of agree. I doubt they will have had the same results they’ve had if Almeyda were still in charge.
Yes.With The exception of the NYCFC game, the team also seems more confident and relaxed. I hope it continues.
11,788 attended the match according to MLS. But how many people actually showed up? Looked pretty sparse on TV. But at least Quakes fans went home happy and Timbers fans sad.
Go Quakes! Deserved result. I know some people don't love Marie but he's one of my favorite Quakes, quite dynamic for a defender. Tonight was not his night, though. His man scored on 2 corners, although on the second one it was a bad matchup and I think somebody else should have marked Tuiloma. Anyway, they all get credit and celebrate a win in the end. I wish more often the attacker would go for it and do more than hold up and put in an easily defended cross. But there are good pieces in place, the offense may start to get better. Yueill is my "not Jamiro" man of the match. Not just the goal but a great defensive night with key tackles and interceptions.
What was happening with the Bonilla-Benji pairing? Seems as though Bonilla kept fouling Benji and the referee called it for Bonilla every time.
The last four games we’ve scored 4,1,3 and 3. Pretty good from the offense and tonight we could have / should have had 3 or 4 more. On the flip side we’ve conceded 3,0,3,2. The challenge is to stop conceding as many whilst keeping up the offensive end. Beating Seattle twice and Portland all in a few short weeks. Just enjoy it!! We haven’t had many spells like this for a long time!
Bonilla is the Ramedi of full-backs. Innate ability to draw fouls...hate playing against him but would love him on your team.
Bringing back "Sticking to just the facts"... Post-Almeyda: 5 wins in 7 games (up from 0 wins in 7 games) 3 wins 1 draw in 5 MLS games = 2.0 PPG (up from 0.43 PPG) 3 home wins in MLS competition in a row (first time since... maybe summer 2019?) Western conf standings: tied for 11th (up from 14th out of 14) Just 2 points out of the playoffs: Quakes with 13 points and Colorado in 7th place with 15 points... Quite an improvement from Quakes at 3 points and Colorado 5 ahead with 8 points, when Colorado was out of the playoffs in 10th place Supporters Shield: 22nd, teams with 13 points are in spots 18-22 (up from 28/28) Beating the Sounders who were 21-1-1 at Starfire Beating the Sounders who were 128-0-1 with a two goal lead First ever Open Cup win on the road against an MLS opponent First win over the Portland Timbers in over three years 3-0-1 vs Cascadia Coach's hair: much shorter and objectively less cool Bushido code references: still flatlining at 0 The Quakes are now 4-1-2 across all competitions (with one of those draws being a win in penalties over the Sounders at Starfire) since firing Almeyda.— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) May 19, 2022 Note I am counting USOC as beating the Sounders because it's a knockout competition and the Quakes advanced which is the only point...
Agreed. The ref seemed to often misunderstand who was doing the fouling. Happened to Benji several times I thought. Also happened to JY and Espinosa.
Fact check: true The Philadelphia Union’s biggest regret will be letting Jamiro Monteiro go. #Quakes74 #MLS #DOOP— Favian Renkel (@FavianRenkel) May 19, 2022 San Jose have SO MANY dangerous attacking threats right now. It's crazy that Matias Almeyda couldn't get them to score from open play.— Alex Morgan (@quakes_talk) May 19, 2022
Marie has speed and good offensive skills. He is definitely defense first but comfortable in attack.I don't recall a single major bonehead mistake on his part ever. i"m sure my memory is faulty, but I don't remember us having a RB who was clearly better. Don't say Beita--he never had Marie's skill will the ball at his feet.
Yeah, why the heck does Matt Doyle count the Quakes USOC win over Seattle as a "draw"? Um, the Quakes won the game by the rules and that's why they are advancing.

Like I said, I'm a big Marie fan, but considering them all in their primes for 2008 and beyond Quakes, I would take "Beita-for-shour" over him as well as Nick Lima firing on all cylinders.
I was convinced TT was not on the bench because of this from Quakes twitter: Was there a last minute change? Or is that an incomplete list? Anyway, TT played very well in limited minutes. He found Espinoza open near the end line, which resulted in the cross and Monteiro's game winning goal. And he almost scored on that run in the box. And even that sequence was set up by his long pass to Espinoza deep on the right wing. TT's actually had 3 plays like that this season, in all of about 160 minutes total, where he's bearing down 5-10 yards from goal with the ball. Unfortunately all 3 shots were deflected :-(.
