What are you talkin' about? The key in a Ponzi scheme is knowing when to get in and when to get out. See: the late Jorge Vergara straight-up fleecing MLS when he sold them back the Chivas USA franchise
"Kinda" and "could" being the operative words. This investment incentivizes that growth and does all it can to ensure that it happens. It also creates a model where clubs collectively bargain for TV rights as opposed to clubs negotiating their own deal. Which is stupid. I love the NHL and right now it's easy to watch games because they're all on one network, ESPN. Before one had to chase the games on different networks or spend a lot of money buying an NHL package. Right now it's a mess trying to watch Liga MX. Consolidating that would mean many more people watching and knowing where to go to watch. You gotta understand business in order to understand the value of the deal beyond the obvious dollars.
bingo, even the small teams would get decent coin to go buy talent from anywhere in the world and growing the entertainment value of the league.
Includes: A multi-year media rights partnership with Concacaf, which grants the network the exclusive Spanish language broadcast rights for future editions of Gold Cup in the U.S. https://t.co/y0GpxJRN4o— Bob Williams (@WilliamsBob75) May 17, 2022
It is that clear that having the deal with Apollo changes the way the teams negotieate the deals, at least the foreign ones?. I don't think is a certainty.
I like the league negotiating a TV deal as opposed to individual teams. They just need to do a better job of getting the games aired. I think the example of Premier League structure of two pots is a good model. One pot is divided equally among teams in the league and the other pot is determined by final table position. For LigaMX, they'd have to factor in the Liguilla but it's more than fair since everything is pre-determined by final standings... as opposed to Spain where Real Madrid and Barcelona had their own deals and the rest of the clubs were essentially fighting for scraps...
I don't understand how Haaland is so "cheap", specially if City is the buyer, I would have bargained for 20M more, at least.
He had a release clause that took effect after so many years into his contract. Otherwise he would have gone for a lot more.
It's the expansion fees that are keeping the league fluid at the moment. Let's see what that new MLS contract yields money wise... They were expecting 300 million but the number looks lower at 200 million. Post 2026 might see a surge in MLS tv money. Meanwhile, subsidized stadiums always bring home the bacon.. I would take 35% stock and bet on MLS making me a billionaire.
