One of the best games i've seen from us this season, we passed the ball with speed and intent and created many scoring chances.
if we could play like this more often then i might convert to a Carlo fan.
Vallejo has surprised me in recent games, he's been very good, might be worth keeping him if he's ok with being our 4th choice CB, bet he'd get more minutes next season if he stayed despite the signing of Rudiger.

Always thought he was good but then he had so many injury issues that i lost faith in him ever really fulfilling his potential, but from the few minutes he's gotten, just like before you can see that he can play, the injuries though........... he should have been much further along

My only issue with Vallejo is that whenever the man gets injured the world breaks down for him and you can see it on the field, then it takes an eternity to recover and regain confidence.

Great kid and a fantastic talent, but it's like holding a raw egg at this point.

i don't really get into these views, we play who's in front of us and we did a great job in this game, but, i have to this time, it was far far too obvious, Levante were terrible, that has to be factored in as far as this particular game is concerned

Yup, sorry for him but we can’t trust him. Time to move on. Plus, isn’t the rumor that Nacho is getting an extension?

People forget that the few times he's played for us Vallejo has been solid.

    What could have been.

Vallejo looks a lot more confident than before. The injury issues seem to have drastically improved as well.

I've always had a soft spot for him, so I'm glad. Curious to see what happens with him this summer. I would like to keep him here, but perhaps a move to a smaller club with more playing time would be better for his career?

If management moves him on; I hope there's a buyback option added. I have a feeling he might have a late peak and by then we will need CB options considering Alaba's, Nacho's and potentially Rudiger's ages.

Fair enough, Levante weren’t good but We’ve played teams as bad as them
this season and still looked lethargic and slow so I’d still give the team credit for playing so well.

Vallejo reminds me of the Canales situation. Injuries basically wrecked his progression, but I think he could rebound. Unfortunately, it will probably be with another club... just like Canales at Betis.

A fit and healthy Mendy makes a big difference, he's just not the same when he's carrying minor injuries.

He's going to be really important when matched up against Salah. Unlike Marcelo in the 2018 CL final, Mendy should be able to track and keep up with Salah.

He could still develop into a Nacho-tier player (or probably better) imo, but I'm not sure we're going to keep him.

He should take that role if club offers him. Other alternative is to be a starter at clubs like Granada which he didn't want anymore last summer.

A big requirement for the Nacho type role is availability. It’s crucial actually. I don’t think we can expect that from him with his injury record.

probably better than Nacho? Dude, no. Nacho is underrated. Vallejo is just exciting people because he didn’t ******** up late vs City and had a decent outing against Levante. He’s not good enough in the air or speedy enough to be a useful and realistic CB option for Madrid. You guys are scaring me with this 4th CB talk. Just no. I

Vallejo at Frankfurt was pretty good. Injuries have meant he hasn't had any proper continuity since. He had couple of terrible injuries at Zaragoza itself pre-Frankfurt loan. Looks like we have offered a renewal to Nacho until 2024 so that's CB position sorted for next two years with Rudiger, Militao, Alaba stepping in when needed and Nacho as 4th CB. Gila should be loaned out to a La Liga team.

It is unlikely he stays because the squad it is getting crowded.

If we assume Fran Garcia is coming back....

    RB: Carvajal, Lucas
    CB: Militao, Rudiger, Alaba/Mendy Nacho
    LB: Alaba/Mendy, Fran Garcia

Unless they think Alaba will get playing time in midfield, alternating with Casemiro. This assumes no Tchouameni. Then yes, is possible they want an additoinal defender. But in general, it is unlikely they carry more than 8 defenders.

The general rule of thumb is 2 per position = 22, then you have 3 spare spots which is usually occupied by youth players or players who will just not leave (i.e Mariano)

Vallejo is signed until 2025 so there is always the chance he just refuses to leave. If I were in his situation, I would rather ride the bench in Madrid and hope for a shot at becoming the next Nacho then go play in Granada. I do think we are probably talking more along the lines of a Valencia or Villareal this time.

IMO Mendy will never play as a CB

Militao heads ball forward instead of back leading to the goal
