Defeated.. should there be concern they only got 668 responses and you didn't have to be a Sob member to participate?

I'm shocked by the number of people who claim they didn't understand the survey. If that's true, they need to go back to elementary school

I'm convinced the majority of them have never watched a sport before

New from the nack.. this is fair, although I wish something more coordinated would be done... you don't need to mandate everyone participarting, but you could still foster some sort of statement rather than totally leaving it in independent hands. I think a large portion of the river end just choosing to sit for a game and react only if something good happens would speak volumes.

    Letter:

A Word From Our President Bill Gusler

    Apathy Is A Deathwish

We as supporters have invested in this team, our team, the Union. Giving your time, your money, your voice, your passion, your emotions, your heart – you’ve invested a part of your life to this team and this supporter’s club, and you should expect something in return.

“Apathy is a Deathwish” by Story of the Year came on my iPod today, and it made me really think about the state of our club and the team. We as supporters can only do so much for our team. We received a tifo idea from one of our members that changed the “join or die” to “adapt, or die” and I began to analyze this. I looked at Chicago specifically and how they were repeat bottom dwellers in the league, and you could tell how their stadium would be empty, their supporter’s section was small, and sparse. I fear this is what could become of us, if something didn’t change, and soon. The Fire brought in Dax McCarthy, and shook the world by bringing in German National Team star Bastian Schweinsteiger…and now they’re a powerhouse in MLS. I wanted to hear so bad that we were doing something big during the summer transfer window, but I haven’t heard anything that I feel will help make our club a contender. I still hold hope, but I feel that if our ownership doesn’t do something big to change our chances, apathy towards our club will be the norm.

When I took over the Sons of Ben last year, I did it because I genuinely love this group and the team. I knew it wasn’t perfect, and I knew the SoBs weren’t the same group as we were during the founding season. But this was still my club, this was still my team. I take “Ad Finem Fidelis” to heart…faithful to the end, to me, means that we do not give up on the boys on the pitch. I am almost always cautiously optimistic, perhaps foolish at times, but I always have hope for our team, that things will turn around. It gets hard to maintain this optimism with our current Jekyll and Hyde team, that has flashes of amazing play at home, and then monstrosity collapses on the road. Yet, I will still show up and support my club unapologetically, and appreciate those who have not given up and will be joining me. I know my mindset is not the same as some of you (as I read your “protest” ideas on Facebook), but I can understand your frustration with our team, and if you choose to show your discontent with the ownership by the way of a walk out, or tifo, or bags on your heads, I will defend your actions if need be.

Whether you still show up and support the team, or you have proposed to do something to show your discontent of our ownership, it shows you still care for our team, you still feel the euphoria of a win, and the sting of a loss…it’s when you no longer care if our boys in blue win or lose, that apathy has taken over.

    Ad finem fidelis.

So on Saturday with the team playing well, the river end was in the middle of a seemingly endless "song" that sounded more like a funeral march. I yelled over to the capo "c'mon lets pick up the pace. people are losing interest". some guy in the crowd, whose ego is as big as his waist line, yells to me "just shut up and sing". yeah great just shut up and sing. Where have all of the SOB's gone indeed....

    Philadelphia, 23rd February, 1756.

I condole with you. We have lost a most dear and valuable relation. But it is the will of God and nature that these mortals bodies be laid aside when the soul is to enter into real life. This is rather an embryo state, a preparation for living . A man is not completely born until he be dead. Why, then, should we grieve that a new child is born among the immortals, a new member added to their happy society?

We are spirits. That bodies should he lent us while they can afford us pleasure, assist us in acquiring knowledge, or in doing good to our fellow-creatures, is a kind and benevolent act of God. When they become unfit for these purposes and afford us pain instead of pleasure, instead of an aid become an encumbrance, and answer none of the intentions for which they were given, it is equally kind and benevolent that a way is pro- vided by which we may get rid of them. Death is that way. We ourselves, in some cases, prudently choose a partial death. A mangled, painful limb which cannot be restored we willingly cut off. He who plucks out a tooth parts with it freely, since the pain goes with it; and he who quits the whole body parts at once with all pains and possibilities of pains and diseases which it was liable to or capable of making him suffer.

Our friend and we were invited abroad on a party of pleasure which is to last forever. His chair was ready firstand he is gone before us. We could not all conveniently start together, and why should you and I be grieved at this, since we are soon to follow and know where to find him? Adieu,

    B. FRANKLIN
