what happened to this board??? no soccer talk anymore? just insults? and lame ones at that.... no talk of the crew taking on the revs.. or that the fire were bounced out... yawn.....
OK. Good suggestion, Jackson Jazz. I predict that the Crew will beat the Revs, but it will go all the way to ot in game three. The Fire were classless again in their game three loss to the Revs. Although I think that it would be neat to see the Revs make it to the title game in their own stadium, my heart wants to see the Crew there, which might be enough to fly to Boston for the weekend of October 20th.
I'm working out the details of broadcasting the show LIVE from Foxboro (aka: The Big Razor) at the MLS CUP. www.soccerfanaticsradio.com As far as who I'm rooting for....that's tough TOTAL toss up between the two...I just wanna see a good series with some drama.... Would be kinda neat to have NE play at home for the title...I think Revs fans deserve it, but then again, so do Crew fans....damn, I'm torn....
Like Bill Archer in the Crew forum, I'd be happy will any hardware this season. The MLS Cup is better, but the Open Cup is nothing to snub your nose at either. Yes, the Fire are a bunch of classless thugs. Although it would have been fun to see the Crew and Fire go at it, I think we have a better chance against NE. Shut down Twellman and overrun their defense with speed. Their defense isn't fast, but they are intelligent. We caught a slight break with Llamosa being suspended for the first game. Francino and Kante will organize well back there. I don't think that we can frustrate them out of their game. The Crew don't play that style of soccer anyway. They just attack for 90+. Most defenses can't withstand that for a full game. If the Crew are going to do it, this is their year. Yeah, they have a tough opponent, but the pressure is now on NE to get the result a home, much like SJ. We win or take a point there, and this series is ours. I would love nothing better to see the engineered team knocked out. I have nothing against Twellman. I think he is a class act. And sure NE fans deserve some success. But I am selfish and I want my Crew to go all the way.
I don't know what the orginial source was, but this just came over the Barnburners' mailing list. I doubt it's us that will get a team this year, but here's hoping. > 17. Official: MLS to add two teams within a year > > SportsTicker - Wednesday, October 9, 2002 > > LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Tim Leiweke, whose Anschutz Entertainment Group owns > six Major League Soccer teams, dropped a bombshell Wednesday when he > revealed that MLS will expand by two teams within the next year. > > Speaking at a soccer symposium, Leiweke said, "Within the next 365 days, the > league will announce that it will be adding two more teams. "It's going to happen." > > MLS commissioner Don Garber said earlier this year that he hoped to > supervise expansion by 2003. > > "We need more teams," said Garber, adding that it was a key goal to get new > stadiums in Dallas and New York. Already being discussed in several other threads. And I don't see Detroit getting a team in this round. Maybe the next one.
High school district soccer Hey. Just wanted to let all of you know that we could use the support in our first round district match against the defending division one state champions. Drop by if you get a chance. First round district match: Detroit Western vs U of D Jesuit High 4:30pm Tuesday, October 22nd at U of D Jesuit High (Seven mile and Cambridge). My prediction: Western 2 UDJ 1 Mike
And if you're in the Plymouth-Canton area tomorrow (Monday, 21st), Plymouth Christian takes on cross-town rival Agape Christian in its first district game at PCA (Joy and Lily Roads). My prediction PCA 6 - Agape 0 Good luck Mike, you have a tough test on Tuesday!
Way to get the shutout Davids. Are there more guys your age following MLS? Please tell me you're pimping the league to all of your friends.
Theirs a few on the team that follow MLS. Most of the kids on the team though just don't follow much soccer. They play more because they'd rather do that than golf or cross country (the other two fall sports offered at my school). Hope to see you guys out at PCA for Greenhills #3 in the state on Wednesday. It will be the final home game of my PCA career.
Just heard the news Mike. Tough loss. Congrats on your first season, hope to see you guys improve next year!
I went to the MLS CUP and had an INCREDIBLE TIME! The game was great, and all the events surrounding it....and I may have been the only Michigander in Boston that weekend.... We didn't broadcast the show live from Boston, like we wanted to, (in retrospect, it was probably better that we DIDN'T...) but we WILL be broadcasting LIVE from Columbus at the US OPEN CUP FINAL. 5-7pm Eastern Time at www.soccerfanaticsradio.com
I was there too....I saw a few people walking around the stadium with U of M sweatshirts on, but they were probably transplants.
I threw up outside of the car. And it was my brother's, not mine. And it was a truck. How can you possibly expect people to believe you if you can't get simple facts straight? Jeesh. And Bailey, I'd shower more if your girlfriend joined me. But I guess she enjoys the funk because she's hanging out with a bunch of smelly eurotrash right now.
Davids: Thanks for the condolences. Yes, it was a very tough loss, but an educational experience for the team nonetheless. We will be much more competitive next year as a result of yesterday's loss. Good luck tonight.
For the shear fact that I don't want to write a new summary, I'm going to post the summary I sent to michigansoccer.net for our game tonight... Plymouth Christian 2 - Ann Arbor Greenhills 1 (2OT) PCA avenged last week's 4-1 loss to number 3 Ann Arbor Greenhills with this Double Overtime victory. PCA goal came early from Lew Tripp (Tim Maes). PCA's defense withstood a lot of pressure, and stepped up when Captain James Delos Reyes was injured in the 2nd half. The pressure though was just too much when with about 5 minutes left Greenhills scored of a rebound in front of the net. Regulation ended 1-1, and Greenhills dominated most of the overtime. With 15 seconds left in the 2nd overtime, and penalty kicks looming, Lew Tripp made a long run up the middle of the field and was pulled down inside of the box. Junior Tim Oswalt stepped up to take the kick and connected. PCA moves on to play the winner of the Huron Valley Lutheran-Franklin Road Christian game Friday at Greenhills at 4PM.
I would have posted how many saves I made but I lost count. We basically played a 110 minute game. It was definitely the greatest game I've ever played in, and a good last game on my home field.
Good job PCA! Now that we're out of the state tourney, I'll be pulling for you. If you guys make regionals, I will come to watch.
Since we are out of the state tourney, I'll be heading over to the Spectadium on Thursday night to catch the Open Cup Final. Hope some of you can join me. Look for my Crew jersey. Mike What: U.S. Open Cup Final When: Thursday, October 24th 7pm Where: Spectadium (Livernois, just off Big Beaver in Troy) Who: Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Columbus Crew
Well, since this thread seems to be Michiganders and their adventures...I thought I would mention that I will be broadcasting the Soccer Fanatics Radio Show LIVE from COLUMBUS, OH, the site of the US OPEN CUP FINAL. We will be on the air from 5-7pm Eastern Time and you can listen online at www.soccerfanaticsradio.com I'm not sure how many of you (or ANYONE) will be at this game....but drop us an email if you WILL BE attending... soccerfanatics@wlnz.org
