I am one of those people who think that the policy will change long before November. The COVID rates are really low in some of the countries on the Qatar red list. I am not sure what they are waiting for. My guess is that they might be getting ready to just drop the whole red list approach.

I mean 6 months ago they had a lot of countries on their red list. They even had the U.K. on their red list until March. Now they have 7 countries on the list. 6 months from now I expect there to be zero. But I have no insider information, so no guarantees.

At this point it makes no sense, because they are allowing Qatar residents and citizens who come in on the same plane from red list countries to be exempt from the one day quarantine, while others need to quarantine for a day. I don't see the point.

OK, now I am pulling for South Korea and Belgium to make the Finals, as this is the only way we can get a Red Devil vs Red Devil match! :p

P.S. OK, third place match is possible too, but not nearly as exciting. :)

Sorry I know this has been asked many times before but I couldn’t find it from a search.

The ballot wont be announced before 31 May - does that mean it will be ON 31 May? Or was there some delay in the previous round? And then after that we can expect the FCFS 1-2 weeks after?

    Thanks again.

I think it will change too, for all the reasons you mentioned. It's just a matter of when. My fear is if I wait too long and it doesn't change, I'll have only limited/expensive flights to choose from, if even that.

I suppose I could do the 1 day quarantine, as I arrive the day before the opening match so I'd only miss the night before festivities. But that would be a really bad way to start off. Others have posted here that it's not clear what "1 day hotel quarantine" means. If I arrive the morning of the 20th is it exactly 24-hours from when I land, or check into the hotel, or take my mandatory "Rapid Antigen Test on day 1 of hotel quarantine"? Or is it just overnight? If anyone knows what the policy is it would be great to know.

If you read through the policy, it is confusing, at least as it is translated into English. It doesn't seem to state 24 hours, and it implies an overnight stay in a special quarantine hotel that you have to pay for. So, maybe a regular check out time, like noon? It would be good to know from someone how this is actually implemented. Maybe you could get a credit for the first night already paid for your official World Cup accommodation? But, hopefully, that red list stuff will be gone long before November.

thanks. Can you post the link for where you found this information?

This "special quarantine hotel" deal does not sound good to me. I was thinking I could self quarantine in my actual lodging, but I guess they wouldn't want to allow that. So with what is clearly a huge hotel shortage what hotel is going to be set aside for the quarantining visitors? It ain't going to be one of the nice ones in the West Bay that's for sure!

Much more likely the whole quarantine thing gets scrapped as the lack of lodging is just another reason. But if they keep it it'll probably be one of those austere workers compounds way out on the outskirts of Doha. No thanks.

    https://welcomehome.qatarairwaysholidays.com/qa-en/offers/welcome-home-packages/

I think you are correct about the hotels, and it is another reason that the policy needs to change before the World Cup, otherwise, people coming from red list countries could just book the welcome home packages to secure a hotel.

Again, I don't see 24 hours mentioned anywhere, just 1 day and sometimes 1 night, whatever that means.

1-if similar to the first ballot, the results will be on 31 May
    2-No delay
3-if similar to the first FCFS, around 15 Days after the result of the ballot

eaglemansoccer.com is reporting July for FCFS. I believe he was part of a Q&A with FIFA. Going to Qatar 2022: tickets, accommodations, etc.

Qatar air. Was $90 one way a few weeks ago and now looks like $150 to Dubai. To Muscat it was around $400 RT.

Do you think the new metro has been sized properly to handle the high volume crowds? I'm amazed how often globally the metros get totally choked with any spike in ridership.

OK I may be wrong about Chicago... but my point overall is valid. Entire US cities won't have World Cup fever the way it was in other countries. But, there will still be localized parties. OK I'll get off 2026 for the time being ;-)

I was on the call and they definitely did say hotels would be going up in about a week.

I’m not doubting what was said has been reported accurately. Just that what was said was bull. Because it’s now more than a week

I imagine it will be pretty soon. The Eid holiday might have delayed it.

that route isn't a cheap one. During summer it is consistently 1260AED or 344$. so the markup of roughly 50$ is not much.

Now SHJ to DOH are running at 820AED on Qatar or 600AED on AirArabia who I've discovered have the worst site of any airline in existence.

AUH to DOH is the cheap one, running 360 AED or 99$ during the summer.

Summer prices to DOH are very low and sometimes double or even triple in the winter but this 10x crap is awful.

If you are seeing 1450AED for your dates, DXB to DOH, I would pull the trigger. DXB probably won't go much if at all lower, SHJ or AUH may but who knows.

If you have points you spend the 7k points and book the award flight from AUH to DOH, but those are only available Nov 24 onward
