On the penalty, Mancini didn't do enough to bring him down outside the box. He should have fouled him once he felt beat. Fiorentina are a better team than they get credit for. Italiano is one of the better managers out there. Mourinho needs to throw more caution to the wind.
Yeah, penalty was soft, especially to overturn the call on the field. However, the score pretty much matches the run of play. We've shown absolutely zero ability to play through their pressure and mount any kind of coherent attack. Were also lucky that non-existent foul on Ibanez was called or it could have easily been their 3rd goal. As unprofessional so far as Thursday was professional. Expecting something different this half. Maybe a shot on goal before El Sha comes on at 80 minutes.
It’s been pretty clear of a while the midfield needs a revamp. So the poor play over the season is not surprising.
Their heads are already in Albania and for that reason they've lost to Inter 3-1 and Viola 2-0 and tied with Bologna at home. They can't wait to be Europe Champions!
An excellent performance by Fiorentina who dominated the game from start to finish. Roma - not for the first time this season - were never in the game.
Do you think after this game the Roma brass are looking at Italiano, thinking why can he get those lemons to play like Manchester City while Mourinho's lemons play like lemons?
Just focus on Albania. Anything below 4th place is meaningless. Even if they lose the final, whether they qualify for EL or the conference again really doesn’t matter.
The perfect way not to instill a winning mentality in the players! Also, the whole way football is organsied in Europe it is designed to make every game matter.
They're better than Leicester City and did dominate us completely today. No question about that. We too often seem like we've never seen a team pressure us and make us play from the back. Italiano seems like a pretty good manager but Fiorentina have been even more up and down than we have this season. Probably a different story if they had Vlahovic, but still. They just got trashed 4-0 by Udinese a week and half ago and I think were on a 3 game losing streak. I hope the Roma brass are looking at all the matches in the big picture. Mourihno still has some question marks, in my mind, about his ideas in building attacks and counter attacking without world class superstars that can just "do their thing". However, this team is 5th best in league talent wise and that's about where any and every manger in charge is going to finish until we bring in at least 2 or 3 more QUALITY players and not just a few 30+yo veterans. The hope is that Mourihno being in charge helps attract a couple more real world class talents. Fair on a message board to criticize and talk about it all. That's what they are here for. However, there's been too much knee jerk reaction from AS Roma brass for a while when the problem is first and foremost the upper quality on the roster.

Said it since what must be September or October time what was starting to happen. This is not incompetence.
VAR, instead of adding a layer of protection against bad calls, has simply added extra layers of inconsistency in both the actual reviewed calls as well as when matches are stopped to review calls. To actually address the problem instead of just create talking points and excuses for their fans, every club outside the big three needs to stop acting like it's a conspiracy theory against only them and damaging them worse than anyone else. If it can be improved, the only means to that end is for clubs to work in unison. The top brass of the clubs (Roma, Napoli, Lazio, Fiorentina and Atalanta, Verona, Cagliari, Sassoulo etc) need to work together and make a presentation with evidence of the inconsistencies, not just calls against their team but one that focuses on the overall inconsistency of calls both for and against their clubs with VAR. It's human nature that fans of a club watch every match and remember every single big call that goes against them and forget (or agree with) any bad ones to their benefit. As a Roma fan, I tend to think this year has been bad for Roma but also tend to think that most years. I'd actually really like to see what a Fiorentina or Verona fan put together for big calls against them this year with VAR. I watch enough matches to see one or two real VAR head-scratchers every single Serie A match but don't almost every match of every team. If you're actually working for a club that wants this improved though you have to focus on the sheer amount of missed calls for and against you rather than get into arguments with Lazio or Fiorentina about which 6th place team got worse calls.
With every correct ref call we would be in 4th place probably, it’s well worth arguing over. I was mad Mourinho didn’t make a bigger fuss after the first Milan and Juve games (although I certainly see why he didn’t), glad he’s taking the gloves off now. The refs “performances” this year have been scandalous, I haven’t seen blatant bias like this since Rudi’s 2nd place season where Juventus got 2 penalties against us for fouls outside the box in the same game.
