Since we're calling up Regionalliga players, I think that we should call up Diego Luna, who is younger and plays at a higher level.
Certainly but the problem is that how much can some new guy go from not in the picture to a must call in for September when that is barely a month into the Euro seasons. Could happen for and MLS player but can't see this for anybody overseas. Possible but pretty unlikely imo.
There's a great example. How much time can Paredes even get before the September window to make a case??? He had all of two appearances in BL1 so far for a whopping 13 minutes. Do you expect him to start come August?
Nope. But injuries and transfers happen. I wish Paredes had stayed another year in MLS. Josh Sargent, however, should be in a good position to get starts to make a case.
Probably not but I do wonder if there's not at least a chance he's like Richards. At Tillman's age he wasn't getting much time with Bayern either but showed promise and became a Bundesliga starter pretty much the moment he was loaned out. There's been talk that Tillman will be loaned. If he were to become a #9 starter at any Bundesliga club and actually score a few goals he'd vault to the top of our depth chart.
We'll have to see what the final roster in June looks like, but I guess I'm just not seeing any guys that aren't already in the pool that might qualify as new. The two possibilities are a European player who has a super hot start in the first month of the season. I guess maybe someone like Richard Ledezma, but I'm not seeing a ton of possibilities other than that. Similarity any new MLS guys would have to really take a leap between now and September, but have not done so yet. I'm also sure if someone really explodes between now and September they will be included. There just aren't really many candidates to begin with anyways.
I think we may also be defining “in the pool” differently. To me, people with zero caps aren’t “in the pool” until they are capped in a meaningful match.
I guess I don't think of Scally and EPB as new guys and I sort of assume both will be on the June roster. Gomez I'm not so sure about but he's at least been in camp before. For dual nationals I'd be concerned about how someone switching at the last minute to get on the World Cup roster could effect team chemistry. I think when Berhalter says not really going to be new guys he's really saying that there is going to be room for experimentation in September and they'll be calling as first choice a team as possible.
That's mostly just Scally and if he gets called up in June (which I expect), he'll definitely get caps.
I’d love to see Gomez reach a point where he is in front of Bello and Vines in the LB pecking order. I know it was a weak opponent, but the team performance during Bosnia match changed from ho-hum to dynamic when he and Reynolds entered.
I doubt he has to with a World Cup bound team, two trophies, and a talented young roster that seems really tight. Feels like we’re in a bit of a different place then years past when recruiting someone promising felt like a huge win against the grain.
This kid is far more likely to have a Julian Green career than he is to be a German NT stalwart. I’m bearish personally. I don’t think he even is particularly likely to develop into a USMNT regular.
What is a "real" game and what does that have to do with assurances? Are the assurances different if you are playing in "real" games?
Nobody knows what kind of a career a young player will have but there are striking physical and athletic difference between Green and the Tillmans! Not making it from the Bayern academy to a first team regular is very typical. The vast majority of Bayern youth don't become Bayern first team regular.
he's almost 20 with hardly any first team ball we buried guys like wright for similar play time issues at the same age
That's true and he might have a good career ahead of him. But we use 1st team success/failure across the board to weigh callups of others. Can't do that and ignore a number of guys regularly playing 1st team ball and then call in a reserve player IMO. And it's not just about precedent. Bringing in a reserve player who as of now has no near term 1st team prospects to potentially play in the WC makes it even worse. There is no regular playing time we'd be relying on for a tournament which is 6 months away. This isn't grooming for the future. Everything should be about the WC. Every participant in camps should have 1st team ball locked down over the next 4-6 months.
