Feel free to move this post. I didn't think it merited its own thread and I didn't find a thread for the 2022 jersey release despite multiple search attempts... Last week, I angry ordered a Zardes jersey from a non-domestic website with which I've had a positive experience in the past...I recall posts where people had discussed buying the patch of the old Crew logo and putting it on their 2022 shirts. Out of curiosity, has anyone on this board done that? My wife has a Cricut and recently reprinted and replaced an old Glidden logo that had come of a 2008 shirt. It's not 100% accurate, but 95% is close enough for me and the size is an exact match. Anyway, for what the Zardes jersey cost me, I'm considering removing the mutant C logo and doing an iron-on of the roundel logo. Anyone have experience or recommendation in removing the player version patches (which seem to be heat pressed/ironed on to start with)?
I'll let you be the judge, but here's some pictures of the white jersey I purchased last fall; when you couldn't get a jersey anywhere else. You can see the one blemish, but for the price it was absolutely worth it. Now, put an iron on logo on this year's shirt and it gets a little dubious, but I can live with it.
I like him and he can be your back up LB & winger i think he has at least 2 years left and if his price is right there is value. versatility and leadership is what he brings.Let him play out his current contract not sure how long that is exactly. Now i hate his dives but other than that i live his moxy & feistiness. He has a high soccer IQ and most importantly left footed
The guy that always amazed me with is ability to judge the ball was a chap by the name of Wilfried Hannes, a sweeper. He would be more famous, except that he played at the same time as Beckenbauer.... But the amazing thing about his ability was that fact that he only had one eye. How he ever developed the perception he needed to play sweeper, well.... Look up his goal vs Liverpool in the 1978 euro semis....
RSL is re-signing winger Jefferson Savarino. He was there before, went to Brazil for a bit, now is coming back. RSL is paying around $3 million and are going to get the top allocation spot from Cincy as part of the deal. Savarino is good, glad to see him back in the league. He is hardly the greatest winger ever, but he’s much better than anything we have, I’m glad that big market moneybags Salt Lake could get a deal like this done. *In Almeyda voice* Must be nice….
Hell, at this point, bringing back Meram and Finlay would be an improvement. Let's sign Gareth Bale and Porter can make some side money while hes unemployed as his caddy.
If you don't already hate Caleb Porter enough, the Extratime guys might change your mind in this 4-minute clip. They think Porter's farewell remarks on Gyassi are wildly "disrespectful". To say the least. Caleb Porter explains Gyasi Zardes trade: "We need a top goalscorer" | MLSSoccer.com
If the league’s own propagandists can’t find a way to spin this in a positive or neutral way, then you know it’s bad. For anyone brave enough to listen to the Massive Report Pod (is that even a thing still?) what did they make of this? They seems to have a few apologist writers over there right now, I can probably write a parody article that wouldn’t be too different from what they say.
I have to admit that I missed Porter more or less calling Zardes over the hill, but even implying it is simply unnecessary. Anybody knows you express love and respect for the guy, babble about how, sadly, this is a business and sometimes you have to make guy wrenching decisions, but this offer was in the best interests of the club, blah blah.
My legs are sore as hell from the half marathon yesterday, so I’m just sitting around, and with the Gustavo del Prete rumors, I decided to watch two Estudiantes de la Plata games this morning. The first was against Barracas, who suck, and the other was against Tigre, who is good. Argentine league is divided into two groups, Estudiantes is currently first in group b, Tigre is third. Del Prete, according to the Estudiantes site, is 5’9” and 171 lbs, to compare him to a Crew player it’s similar to Etienne (5’10”, 170 lbs) or Nagbe (5’9”, 165 lbs). Estudiantes plays a 4-4-2, del Prete was usually on the right side of the two strikers. When in possession, he was dropping into a #10ish space, but that was only when Estudiantes wasn’t attacking with pace. They play very quick and vertical. When attacking at pace de Prete was making runs in behind the defense, but he isn’t fast, it was more about pulling defenders out of position or finding space to receive the ball and dribble. He has a little pace, but in MLS he won’t be winning races anytime soon. He has a little physically to his game, but he won’t be outmuscling very physical MLS defenders. He is good at combination play, one-two passes, pass and move type stuff. He’s left footed. Decent dribbler, but nothing spectacular. For me, I don’t think he’s a fit for Columbus. Also, his goalscoring record isn’t as good as Zardes. Zadres has a career g/per90 of 0.56 with Cbus. Del Prete had a career g/per90 of 0.51 in Uruguay. Del Prete had a career g/per90 of 0.45 with Estudiantes. Hot take, I don’t think the Argentine league is better than MLS. River Plate has three MLS rejects in their starting rotation: Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, Tomas Pochetino, and Ezequiel Barco. If Porter wants a better striker than Zardes, I don’t think del Prete is it.
Edinson Cavani is leaving Man U on a free this summer, Boca Juniors are favorites to sign him apparently. He’s old, but I wouldn’t mind a six month contract, or maybe six months with an option for one year after that. It would be very dependent on his physical condition, he’s had a couple injury issues this season. Could be a decent plan b. Argentine clubs don’t pay huge wages, we could match them. I’d rather have Larin still, here’s the clear plan a.
I’d expect him to say that to American media, but I do think it’s true. While watching del Prete, I saw another guy that I thought looked good, a right winger named Castro. I looked him up, turns out he already had a year on loan in Atlanta in 2020, they didn’t make the deal permanent. He was one of Estudiantes best players the two games I saw, but couldn’t get a loan made permanent, when combined with all the MLS rejects starting for River Plate now, it really makes me think the level of the Argentine league had gone down in recent years. There are still good players there, for sure, but it’s not the same. Almada in Atlanta is looking kinda iffy as well.
The Haslam’s just gave a PR disaster $250m on a total whim. They can at least give the Crew some table scraps. These rumored moves are cheaping out.
Cavani and Bale. Just promise Gareth unlimited golf at whatever central Ohio course that he would like.
Nah. Cavani still has the hunger and desire, Bale is incredibly unprofessional, and I say that while also liking him as a player.
