Most people on here would do better than Ashton. He has been an assistant forever for a reason. - and an assistant for losing or undercheiving teams for along time. Sorry to see Losada go. We looked like we were all trying to do the same thing and that never happened before. Of course we are doing it with average players and truly overrated young homegrown players.

"Most people on here would do better than Ashton." One of the more absurd statements I've ever read on Big Soccer. Yes, Ashton is a "career assistant.," but you are suggesting that you and the rest of us who post here could step on the pitch with a pro team and do just as well as those paid assistant coaches. Absolutely absurd.

I'm sorry to see Losada go, too, and I'm hardly an Ashton fan, but this is ridiculous. He's an experienced soccer coach. He probably forgot more about how to run a training session this morning than most of us will ever know.

During the Olsen years I could’ve come up with something better. That is not a testament to my skills.

    Absolutely Hedbal.

No doubt, all these internet posters, especially those with with a grass roots E or even D licenses can coach DCU to even a winning season. Cause of course coaching a pro team is no different than a Progressive Insurance commercial. So why is not one team, any team, beating down our doors desperately pleading with us to quit our day jobs to coach them....?

I took the post as typical BS hyperbole and didn't take it seriously.

Not those assistant coaches ..... specifically Chad Ashton.

I think even you could do better, but I have a long-running, possibly (though I am not convinced) irrational hatred of all things Chad Ashton-related.

Not our job to hire. I am suggesting that there are (or must be) a lot of people who at the minimum haven't been tied to what has been mediocraty at best for many years. And who knows - you and others on here might actually have some knwledge into excellent coaches local or otherwise. That is why this is a forum -for our opinions.

For clarity, you’re saying none of us could lead United to miss the playoffs like Ashton does? Because trust me I can do it.

Most owners of professional sports franchises are ass-holes. They got rich by being ass-holes to their competitors and have huge egos as a result. If you're a coach or anybody in the organization, you don't poke them in public. Losada did.

Also, he benched an expensive player who's one of your DPs. Even if you're planning on trading him, he has to play in order to appear attractive to other teams. You don't do that either, at least not this early in the season. Losada did.

Say what you will about Losada (or Ashton, or Olsen), but we haven't seen anyone on United blow up at them on the field like Carles Gil did with Bruce Arena on Saturday.

And it could always be worse. DC United could be FC Cincinnati.

I missed the Gil/Arena confrontation. Was it a match highlight I can see on tape?

I doubt the interest in Bale is coming from Rushton. It does not fit with anything about why she was hired or what her skill set is supposed to be.

This reeks of Levien and/or Kasper.

I would be surprised if Lucy went to them and said "We need Gareth Bale." I would also be surprised if they didn't come to her with a set of potential flagship signings and asked her to analyze them.

Bale is a big boy with a long stride who can play inside and out, and we do have two wingbacks who can hit a moving target from 40 yards, so I think he'd be a pretty great signing for us. He's a better version of Kamara. You could certainly have both on the field at one time, given their general skillsets. Along with Taxi, that's an absolutely bonkers front line.

I'm not necessarily opposed to Bale or other occasional big name signings as long as they have something left in the tank and that it is in addition to (not instead of) a long-term strategy to sign and develop young talent. While I wasn't in favor of signing him Rooney worked out pretty well, but it felt like a one-off that was completely disconnected from any plan (that I could see, anyway).

Technically accurate assessment but amusing due to the degree of steps between the two comparision points.
