It is a life long passion project of mine to maintain a video of every USA world cup goal. Recently I found that several full games from the 2002 cup had been uploaded to youtube, but these are not the same as the broadcasts that I had always seen. They are in high definition 1080p, filmed separately from the standard broadcast. Needless to say this got me very excited. However, it isn't a complete series. While the Quarterfinals and beyond are all there. There are only about 12 games from the group stage and only one round of 16 game; meaning over two third of the tournament is missing. By some fabulous stroke of luck, the USA matches are all there except for the Mexico game. Similarly, the main broadcast of the 2006 cup was all in HD, but you can't find many of these games in HD anymore. There is a decent HD copy of the USA/Italy game and I assume all the italy games are out there too but many of the other games are missing in HD including the USA games.. As I understand, many of these HD games were on MEGA upload and may have been lost several years ago, 2012 I think it was. But it seems to me like someone had to have their own copies somewhere. So I'm reaching out to my fellow enthusiasts. Do you have any leads on the missing HD games from 2002 and 2006. again I am most interested in USA/Mexico 2002 and USA/Ghana 2006, however I think myself and others would love to be able to watch these complete tournaments in HD. Please help us complete these sets! For anyone who is interested: Every match from the 2002 world cup was filmed in High Definition, although not all were broadcasted. I have reached out to FIFAfilms and they confirmed that they have all of the games in HD. However, most of us don't have the amount of money needed to casually buy footage from FIFA. Before the aforementioned games were taken down from youtube, I downloaded the USA games vs portugal and poland, plus the first half vs korea. 1080 resolution. I uploaded them to google drive. I'm not sure, but most definitely in the thousands at least. They don't release footage for personal use so the only way is to buy it with some sort of broadcasting or streaming rights. They have a request form that you have to tell them what you want and how you plan to use it and then a liaison gets in touch with you to discuss cost. I didn't feel like putting in a mock request form. Several years ago i reached out to them about purchasing a short highlight. I don't have that email anymore and I'm a little fuzzy on the details. But I recall them saying that first you have to pay like 200 dollars/euros per minute or x number of seconds or something- not for the footage but just to see a low quality sample of the footage...and then when you decide the exact footage that you want you pay at a much higher rate for it.

Regarding the 2002 world cup I have some matches of the German national team in HD which were broadcasted by Korean TV stations. These are: Germany - Ireland (SBS HD) Germany - USA (SBS HD) Germany - South Korea (MBC HD) Germany - Brazil (SBS HD) For the remaining matches of the german national team I only have SD footage. However I found a youtube channel which has HD footage of these matches that I couldnt find anywhere else online. These matches seem to have been broadcasted by "bs hi", a japanese TV channel. For example the match Germany - Paraguay: Anyone know where I can find the full matches that were broadcasted by "bs hi"? If you are interested in goals only, there's a DVD available for each world cup that features all goals. These will be in SD only, but I guess they are real good quality SD. I have the same games. They are not hard to find. FIFA has posted almost every WC game on their website. The thing is, they don't have the HD games from 2002 and earlier. NHK has those games saved in their archive, which is why you will see some games from 2002 and 1998 rebroadcast in HD on their TV channel and nowhere else. They only show Japan games.
NHK = BS1 The only thing FIFA has is film footage of every game, but in terms of digital records, only NHK has real HD. They started broadcasting HD games into cinemas from the time of the 1990 WC. They did the same for the Olympics even earlier.
NHK made a commercial in 1997 advertising the WC in HD for France '98. The West Germany-Yugoslovia from 1990 was featured in it.
I remember all of the 2006 world cup games were easy to find in HD back in the day but it all got lost when mega upload went down in 2012.
Wow amazing! Thanks for all that great info. God, I wish they would all get published somehow. It would be interesting to know if all of the games in 90, 94, and 98 are recorded in that way or just the japan games and a few select others. If one day I were to lay my eyes on HD recordings of my USA games from that era I would be in ecstasy! Edit: sounds like only 13 games were recorded in HD back in 1990
