Just to make the Bale to DC United rumors even more MLSian: Confirming these talks. #DCU also hold Bale’s discovery rights, which is a concept that remains hilarious. https://t.co/t5A91PZSdv— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) April 21, 2022
Good to see that. There was a tweet either from him or quoting him that he'd resigned. I think there's a big difference between a Welsh guy whose family has lived in Southampton, London, and Madrid and been happy versus the Rooney's who had never lived outside of a 35 mile radius of Liverpool. While potentially fun to watch, I am not sure that he is what this team needs to grow and improve in the long term, so I should probably go get a Bale jersey at the team store right away.
Another thing, if Edison Flores suddenly picks up his movement and his control of the ball suddenly comes back playing for Ashton, I am going to be seriously pissed.
DC United's rumored friendly with Bayern Munich at Audi Field is official for July 20. Which is my birthday so happy birthday to me from DCU!
in other season ticket holder news, the games against the no name teams from backwater leagues in the Capital Cup are included in your STM plan, you paid for them and one more, but the Bayern game is not. You can buy your seats at a "preferred price". I am thinking it will be 10% off of astronomical.
I agree. But in the most simple terms, a team with 3 DPs has only $3,062,000 to spend on the roughly the next 17 roster spots, an average of $180k per player. Get a couple of solid guys making $250k to $500k and now you really are limited on what talent you can get (or keep) for that for slots 10-20. Yes, depending upon a host of other transactions a team can have as much as $4.4 million more in Garber bucks (GAM $1.6 max, TAM max $2.8m) but that can only be used in restricted ways - and not to lift all boats. It will only get better when the league inks a big-time broadcast deal (well, major for it but not compared to NHL or above) of ~$60m per year. And based on recent articles it seems that isn't gonna happen anytime soon.
Thought I was being naive for being pissed about this, but really why am I paying for every single match, including these no name friendlies, when I don't even get an exciting match like Bayern.
I don't think this is anything new. I don't think a past friendly again Real Madrid was in the season ticket package. I'll do some hope posting. I'm pretty sure this match will not be at Fed Ex field.
I'm prepared not to like Bono just because every single other person with that name is both an insufferable prick and has terrible diving skills. I'm looking at you, Sonny Bono.
It probably will be somebody who is hungry to coach at the MLS level and who feels confident that he (or she) can build a better than a good team on a bargain basement budget. It's been done before. The only catch is that these kind of guys will just be looking for a springboard for their next job within the next two or four years. So, we might luck out. Wells, folks, that's my best case scenario until Levien sells that team to an owner who can afford to put together a MLS cup contender.
