We have a below average team. Tactics and effort can make us hit around .500 but anything more than that for this year is a pipe dream.
But we are not looking for a cheerleader to fight for the wooden spoon or someone to coddle their baby bottems. They are professional players. Granted they deserve respect but they also must be held to account.
Do you know how you win a locker room? You win games. Im fine with them being unhappy if they are losing.
At the end of this is winning. We sold off two of our better players and replaced them with lesser talent. That we're not winning should not be surprising. I hope the club will support the next manager better than the last two.
Totally Agree. Ashton and Kasper are part of the problem not the solution. That and a Front Office that just isn't willing to spend money on the team to any near levels that would give you a chance to challenge for titles.
Yeah for those of us that remember the days DC United was the flagship for the ENTIRE League and set the standards we sure have dropped so very far. That's why I have said this team has virtually nothing in common with the DC United team I fell in love with and supported. I want them to succeed but it's getting really hard.
Kasper and Rushton are a disgrace, just like our ownership. It was only a short time ago that they GUSHED over Losada, and now they can him. He has asked for more spending and better players for some time now, but always crickets in response (or we sign lesser replacements). The most amazing thing of all is that these morons have to know this will not sit well with the diehards (fewer remain, I get it), but they do it anyway. When you let players run your organization (it seems to be the case here...at least partially), you get this type of response. Embarrassing. I can't wait for the game this weekend. And not for the normal set of reasons.
None of us are insiders but I am more likely to think this is Kasper than Rushton. My gut feeling is that they have given her the GM title without the authority that typically goes with it. I'm speculating, of course, but the tea leaves that I've seen lead me to that conclusion.
Julian Gressel is doing a live Twitter space with Fabian Herbers on Zee Soccer Podcast about Losada's release right now.
So, sitting here in Italy at aperitivo time and I open my tablet and come upon a shit hurricane. I’ve had a vague feeling for awhile that Losada was closer to the door than otherwise appeared. The Jesse March quote really resonated given the games I saw before leaving showed a very flat DCU side. That and Losada’s constant claims about needing better players. Nevertheless a gut punch and what looks like another woeful season. Two further observations: 1) only in Italy can you walk over 10 miles a day and not lose weight. 2) DCU will rebound and make playoffs and make a deep run and Chad Ashton gets coach of the year. (Of course it’s 9:30 PM here and I’ve been drinking and had a good filling meal.). Best to all of you.
Because mediocre players want a coach that won't punish them for being mediocre under the guise of team cohesion. It is great that you all get along well but you really suck....
Julian Gressel is on Zee Soccer Podcast now talking about Losada's firing: From @zeesoccerpod, @JulianGressel says of Losada's ways: "It was a lot. Some guys bought into it more than others. Clearly after he was appointed, there was an excitement about everything. … Then it starts fading a little bit as more and more guys get hurt ... " (more) #dcu— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) April 20, 2022 Mixed feelings Losada didn't show up to training today Losada consistently had to tell the team to get in shape, eat the right food, etc. Players wanted a bit more freedom this year Good things to say about Hernan. Disconnect between some players and Losada "Herman probably didn't have the best relationship with those guys." "Uh or or, or you know the front office in general, so I obviously know that he's asked multiple times in the media that you know he wanted better players and and wants to be listened to" "But I also think that that Ashton, you know who's now taking over as the head coach, has good grip on the group." "He has very good relationships with everybody. He was an awesome assistant coach and the six to eight games." "I think we had with him as a head coach at the end of 2020 was was great as well. Where we've? We've won a lot of games." "Bit more yeah, freedom a bit more say in certain things and and it was. It was difficult at times, you know. And and to kind of kind of get that from him. But again at the same time, that's just you know how he is, how he is as a manager, and how he how he wanted to do things. And you know, for myself, I can only say that I was brought in. I was trying to, you know, get better myself and I. I reaped the benefits of it. You know, I was I, you know, lost some weight. I lost body fat. And I I felt better. I felt like I could recover better. I felt like I better on the field, all those types of things and and and those obviously had a really good season last year as well. So you know, that's why I'm saying I'm thankful that he was my coach because I again I think he. He made me better and he made me be a good player so." "It was definitely a lot on a daily basis and I guess yeah some guys and then. Didn't really buy in as much as I did. I want to say, but that's just, you know, kind of. Kind of how it transpired. But I guess it wasn't also just about, you know the relationship with the players. I think it's you know it's reported that there were some some clashing heads between the front offers and Hernan, and you know that those things certainly play a role. " "You talk about Paul Arriola, you know those these? These factors might have played a role into this. Well, of of how quickly it maybe ended up happening at the end, but again, I personally yeah only have good things to say really about Hernan and about how he tries to manage." "You know a team and then kind of his style of how he's stuck true to that. But at the same time you know I think he he wasn't able to kind of give us a bit more freedom and wasn't able to kind of meet the players. Maybe halfway on certain things, so it was."
If Kamara doesn't get the stupid yellow, I think DC wins the Austin game 3-1 and Losada keeps his job. This is on the players, in a lot of ways.
Gressel also said that he expects them to keep the same pressing style and mentioned that during Ashton's previous interim stint they did try to be more proactive than under Olsen. And said that Chad is well-liked by the players and that they think he cares a lot about the club after having been there for so long. And he mentioned that Losada will be back at training tomorrow to say goodbye
