It’s way too early to speculate but, yeah, I mean anyone confused about the fact that they are going to a predominantly Muslim country should probably give some thoughts to their priorities. I hope everyone gets the experience they want, but I really think some things are going to be less than what some are hoping. Qatar has indicated a willingness to be flexible, but I think pragmatism will have its limits. I don’t envision liberal access to alcohol or uncontrolled drinking in non-designated or controlled areas, but we shall see.
It’s VIP Match Hospitality allotments, I’m not surprised. It’s gun to your head hotel selling linked marketing.
what is your definition of doing it right? You mean deliberately restricting sale of all accommodation? Having a complete monopoly on the whole thing? Promising hotel space with a “coming soon” flash on the accommodation pages whilst the first ticket sale was in process and removing it immediately the window closed? Stating they were having 16 cruise ships, and two so far. Pressurising some to opt for inflated hospitality space by deliberately withholding more reasonably priced rooms. Promising rooms in Dubai and Oman, which are yet to materialise and are still “coming soon” whilst starting the second round of ticket sale. Bribing FIFA representatives ( who were of course complicit) to get enough votes to win the bid. Those things aren’t “doing it right” . Less about pride and more about embarrassment. But of course with FIFA and Qatar no one is surprised. That’s the sad state of affairs.
For clarity, all my statements made is not directed at anyone in here personally and I’m sure whiskerxx feels the same. Unless you are directly connected to the bidding process that is. But I’m also sure that the feelings being posted in here would be a reasonable reflection from others in the wider football traveling community.
That's what i would also love to point out. I came on the site for to check on the best strategies to get tickets, and seeing you guys are struggling with the country, the way of life and the places and accommodation here, and some stuff only the locals would know, thought i will give some helpful inputs on how to navigate Doha, having lived here as an expat for few years. Other than that most of the question asked about politics or fifa and Supreme committee, i am not the right person to answer. But for other questions, i would gladly help.
My Hayya card application just went to approved pending accommodation confirmation. I had booked that so hopefully fully approved soon. Submitted March 27th approved in the last few minutes.
The same article also later says: For Qatar, MATCH allowed customers a chance to book flights and accommodation well before the general public. The company is also offering hotel rooms in Dubai and Muscat in order to prepare for potentially limited inventory in Qatar. Fans who are able to score private-suite tickets through the hospitality company will also be able to drink alcohol at the match—a perk that may not be available to those who purchase tickets through general admission. While organizers have stressed that Qatar isn’t a dry country, they haven’t yet made clear whether booze will be available inside stadiums. MATCH declined to offer more detail on rules drinking suite-goers must follow. I think this also highlights some of the points made by other posters about how MATCH are doing things differently this go around. Make of it what you will...
No doubt access to hotels was a big attraction for the hospitality tickets. However another factor is the sheer volume of wealthy people in Qatar and neighbouring countries.
I am pretty sure most of big countries secured votes in previous world cups, with a different style of bribes, may be not cash but pressure, politics, etc..
We are all sitting and waiting with popcorn in hand for the Trial of Platini and Blatter. I’m sure something about the bid process will unfold
Qatar better drop the Red List, the one-day quarantine, and the negative COVID test requirements before November. They have India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka on their Red List now. They will not have enough quarantine hotel space for all of the Indian subcontinent visitors.
And I value your local input and appreciate your contribution. My comments are borne out of frustration at FIFA and the Supreme Committe, who aren't quite living up to their name. The communication is appalling. Have they published a list of actual fan fests, and fan villages? Have they indicated what the policy on alchol will be? Can they not simply say, either there will not be any hotels or hotels go on sale on a given date? These things are in their remit. They are not reliant on politics and relations with their neighbouring countries for these things. Its an internal affair and they are failing miserably. But of course they are happy keep taking our money for tickets. Edit: 2018 finals in Russia commenced 14th June 2018. I booked my international flights 4th July 2017 My internal flights 13th July 2017 Moscow hotels 4th July 2017 Sochi hotel 6th July 2017 All directly with airline or hotel. Its no wonder I'm getting frustrated!
Oh boy, imagine the mess that would create. This most definitely has to change. Hopefully the planet will be over covid by the end of summer. And by over I mean; learn to live with it like we live with the flu and common cold and every other virus out there.
Thanks for sharing. I submitted mine on April 5th i have have just checked and the submission date changed in the platform to April 17th. It is really strange.
Yes, and Bangladesh is also on the Red List. That would be just crazy. There will be a very large number of people coming from the Indian subcontinent. I hope you are right and that the Qatari authorities come to their senses. Vaccinated travelers should be allowed in. No restrictions. Saudi Arabia already did that starting this month. Qatar needs to do the same. The one-day quarantine is just pointless now.
i remember years ago, of course it was a different time, but i was in Qatar for 3 days. In 2004 they would send people from my unit to Qatar from Iraq to an American military base for 3 days of R&R, the base we were on only allowed us a 3 beer minimum per day, and they kept track of it by your social security number.
Will they check Hayya card when entering to match stadiums? Not sure will they check name to match with your tickets or not.
They will check the hayya card , they've never matched names on tickets to these, and Gary confirmed they didn't do it for last tournament in Qatar
Yes they will definitely check your Hayya card and it must be you. Once you had a valid ticket for the Arab Cup or indeed in Russia 2018 the name did not matter. It does not need to match your Hayya/fan id. As per previous posts FIFA have put names on tickets dating back to 1994 and the name on the ticket has never mattered. My Hayya card went from approved pending accommodation to approved. That happened without me doing anything but I booked an apartment weeks ago.
I want to ask, who has experience in the previous world cup, is it easy to buy tickets for the 3rd place winner when it's close to match day or are they difficult to buy? Is it worth buying or not?
I attended 3rd place match in 1994 Sweden vs Bulgaria, sold out bout of course it was a different era, today it's easier than back in the day
