This is what I expect. Beer will be there, but the lines will be so long that it won’t be worth the hassle.

I understand respecting the host country’s culture, but in this instance if the host is going to choose to host, and we’re all forced to go there for the WC, they should permit world norms on booze and not dig in on their outlier stance.

I disagree on the host having to permit world norms on booze. Of course I want people to have a good time at the WC, but no one is forcing anyone to actually attend. We here in the western world are used to our freedoms but I'm always in the camp of "when in Rome you follow Roman law" (it's not like we are going to be there forever). I feel like Qatar already allowing it stadiums & fan zones is enough for them to "give into". I personally don't drink so I know that football and the World Cup can be just as enjoyable without alcohol. But I do hope you all get to enjoy it even with the limited alcohol

Rules for the international fans are not going to be so strict, including alcohol.

what do you mean by "not going to be so strict, including alcohol"?

So let's say me and my apartment roommates want to buy a case of beer to put in our fridge so we can have a couple cold ones while we watch the early game before we go out? or maybe a bottle of bourbon to mix a cocktail or two before going out at night? Do you think we'll be able do get it?

Absolutely. Alcohol and world cup/football are inseparable and they know it. That's why we are separate from local people. Rules are not going to be the same for them (locals) and for us.

I highly doubt this. rules will be relaxed, there will be several fan zones where alcohol is served, and maybe many restaurants will get a temp license to serve as well. But new shops opening up for fans to purchase bottles and stock up the room, i don't see that happening.

if during the world cup, qatar still applies a negative PCR test 2x24 hours before departure from the country of origin, I think many will have problems and can't enter qatar.

Would literally be a total back flip, I just can’t see this happening. Plus anywhere that does sell booze it will be 300% what you pay back home. The football will be fine, same as the stadiums but I’m starting to think more and more it will be pretty dull for the fans on the ground. Even duller at night when not at the matches.

Prices you cannot compare back home. But fan villages it will be cheaper. Also if you have friends here then yes you can go to their place for a drink or two. If they are very close to you, they can purchase it for you as well (its illegal though)

I know we’ve heard the pricing for 30ml Makers Mark 18USD, fan villages well I’d like to see what they actually are. Near on impossible to find people with a license and yes I know it’s illegal to get it for us. I read the law recently, hence why i stated they won’t relax the rules. Hopefully the LNG doesn’t run out as the tourism will never hit real sustainable numbers.

Apologies you are correct, which is a total farce considering Oz has some of the highest vaccinations rates exceeding the EU and GCC countries they are exempting. We don’t even PCR test here anymore. The irony is you can get one within 48hours of departure and it takes 24-36 hours to get to Qatar from here effectively being 72hrs from the test and then be infectious on arrival. Pretty sure they’ll lift this globally otherwise people will just give up. I’m getting closer and closer to saying ******** it stick the cup.

I hope someone who works in qatar government or fifa member reads this and does something, otherwise many people will have problems and waste money in vain

This rule changes every month. So by November it will look quite different. Mostly this is a way for hotels to make money. The most travelers are Indian , Pakistani etc and they are made to do compulsory hotel quarantines. But for November things will change Atleast they won’t want a back lash on things so most rules will be quite liberal

You are wrong though. Fifa might be more interested in $$ but Qatar is more interested in doing it right and Pride

Think the ridiculous price points from Qatar airways from every corner of the globe and the 3k a week apartments beg to differ that $$$$ isn’t being milked to death from fans. Qatar will be mostly remembered for its new name

How ever you calculate, Qatar is not going to make money out of the apartments. All these buildings are leased from owners starting a few months back at a very high cost than normal. These buildings are going to be furnished and not used till fans come,(Empty for the next 6 months), the current rates or even if they double or tripple the current rates, they are not going to recover the cost. Since they are already loosing money, i am also of the opinion that they can give it for far less make it cheaper.

And trust me on this point, if it was left to the demand and supply and general market conditions of individual owners, the prices will be steep and uncontrollable, for bad quality and low maintenance apartment.

Hence why globally countries the size of a postage stamp with limited accommodations don’t bid for WC and it was not the right choice to be selected. The bid program identified the shortfall and initial video of conceptual accommodation parks was the perfect idea but never implemented. So they ended up leasing whole entire apartments for months beforehand further highlighting that in ten years they were ill prepared, and naive even making a bid. But money played a huge role in securing the votes in the first place and he we are. Like I’ve said, the football and the stadiums will be great of that i have no doubt. They will organize transport and I’m sure it will look great but without the fans coming from far and wide, mainly thru cost it will be very much a lesser cup than the last 2 for many. I’m going and hoping to be dead wrong as I’ve spent a shit ton of money.

Just read an article with the below info:

MATCH Hospitality, which sells club seats and other upscale ticket packages with match-day perks, said it’s on pace to “significantly exceed” the volume of sales it saw during Brazil’s World Cup in 2014. That event was the best-attended installment of the tournament in a quarter-century.
