Not trying to judge over many games, just this one. CP had two opportunities at the end of regulation. Havertz and Jorginho had even better looks at the end of the second OT period. Who will suffer more out of the three?
To be fair, Chelsea lost the tie in London last week. That they made it that far in Madrid was amazing.
I can't tell if the bigger problem is Pulisic's loss of pace ... ... or the way his loss of pace has sapped his confidence. Either way, he's gotta figure out a way to bring more consistency to his game. There's been a series of peaks and valleys to his form already this year and we ain't even halfway through April.
They weren't better chances. Not better than Pulisic's second miss, anyway. And Pulisic's would have won the game in regulation, so he'll get the most blame. Rightly.
Same difference. I fully expect CPs minutes to get cut even further now. TT should have kept Werner in. I am tired of all the excuses about CP somehow being better than Mount and even Werner. You get paid to put the ball in the net and assist. 6/4 G/A in 1770 minutes. That is just average and not good enough for a CL level team IMO. Werner: 9/4 G/A in 1647 minutes Mount: 10/13 G/A in 2929 minutes
I thought the 1st miss was worse... but either way... to miss both of them to win the game outright? Down right brutal. CP was the goat today... and not the good kind of goat.
Good lesson for footballers. Sometimes you get the big goal (last year vs RMA), and sometimes you miss those goals (this year vs RMA)
Tougher angle on the first, better defending on the second. His instinct to lean back and finesse seemingly every shot he takes backfired. It's basically a meme that he falls down any time he scores. Here, it meant that he put both chances over the bar.
I think that the best answer is "who cares"? When a .300 hitter goes 0 for 4, people don't ask why he suddenly got worse at baseball since last week. Missed chances happen, and sometimes they happen at bad times.
you play for a club like Chelsea this is what happens. You get paid to make plays in the biggest moments. When you do you’re celebrated. When you don’t you get ripped. The greats move on from both and get better
Ugh. Now the English sports media is going to be ragging on everything Spain-related for the rest of the month.
Just poor form for Christian, right now. For a 26 year old, Werner's numbers, aren't all that impressive.
I need to see a replay of his 2nd chance. Did he make contact on the ball or did the defender clear it?
The first one he should have given himself a good chance to score. He rushed it. Couldn't find a good rhythm/head space out there the whole appearance. It wasn't just the missed goals. He was late on his passes, and when he had a better chance for a take on he hesitated. And Madrid were often passing around him. He's going to take some heat and is likely to move down the depth chart, seeing as how they've played much better w/out him lately. The offseason will be interesting. Is this the one that's finally it for him there? We tend to vacillate on this issue, coinciding with his own performances. One of the most inconsistent/hot-cold big club players in the world.
I think he put the second one over but I also think that had he gotten it on target it would have been blocked.
I mentioned on the PBP thread, but I think his lack of size really does cost him, and it was evident today. He gets pushed around, and also, Werner or Havertz would be able to get to that long ball Kova played into the box, but CP could not reach it. I don’t want to say it will always hold him back, but today I really noticed it. I think CFC win if Werner stays in for at least 10 more minutes.Yes, I can;t believe I just typed 'Werner,' but he is in-form and confident, and he is faster and more physical than Pulisic. I don't know anymore, and I do react too quickly to the most recent performacne; I could see him staying at Chelsea, learning and improving, and helping them win another trophy. or, I could see him playing for Leeds next season. At the end of the day, it's up to Tuchel, and I am not sure TT will trust CP as much moving forward.
He looked slow. I thought there were a couple moments where 2018 CP causes some serious problems but 2022 CP can't make those plays and the defender comfortably clears.
CP has definitely lost the spark he once had, he hasn't created a goal from nothing in a long time. At least he showed some aggression today. He should have gotten one of his two decent chances on target. Was hoping qualifying for the WC would help his form but not so much. Good on Werner for having two good games in a row. He really has been poor all season. There are no bad players on Chelsea so it's all relative. Vinicius is so who I'd like to be able to compare Pulisic too but we haven't seen that for a while.
I would love for Leeds United to be Yank Central in the EPL. Bring in Aaronson, Pulisic, Adams Richards on loan. That would be a dream come true. -------------- Bamford --------------- James ----- Aaronson ----- CP -------- Phillips -------- Adams --- Richards --- Llorente --- Koch I love the 3-2-3-1 formation.
Glad he's had two good games in a row. Other than that he's been poor for a while. Next time point this out before the game since you are such a fan.
Here's the two goal attempts. I don't think the 2nd attempt would have necessarily been blocked had it been on target -- depends on how well hit and placed it could have been. Both were poor volleys.
