I haven't heard any numbers for the Open Cup Final but I would guess 17,500.00. I think that is a usual for a weeknight game in C-bus

Something to consider: Next year Burn-Rapids MLS Cup final in LA. Will you see 27,000 rabid supporters for either team? I think it wise to hold the Cup match in a finalist's stadium for the necessary passion and atmosphere of yesterday's game.

    final

I thought it was relatively exciting although as many have noted not that well played. It was great to see the big ( and enthusiastic ) crowd though and I think you would have to call it an overall success from an event perspective. What the ratings are is another story but if 60,000 can go to a soccer game and enjoy themselves thats how soccer gets built up from the grassroots level regardless of the TV aspect. Although personally I would rather see a single table structure similar to the EPL - then the league can hype its big late season matches rather than having playoffs and a championship. just my $.02

    Thoughts on the game:

    1. Great supporters' support, and not only from NE fans. I saw some United jerseys in the crowd, too.

    2. If JP was trying out for the next job announcing MNT matches, I don't think he vaulted over Rob Stone.

    3. Carlos Ruiz is a freak.

    4. Twellman looked hurt. He barely had room for a good first touch, too. Great D by LA.

    5. I saw NE bunker in at the 70-minute mark and I thought, "Uh-oh. They're in there until Minute 120."

5a. Credit due for the NE forwards to counterattack, though. It wasn't just a bunker.

    6. Carlos Ruiz is a freak.

    7. What's Cobi Jones doing taking all of the corners?

    8. Sad to see what has happened to Llamosa and Pineda Chacon in just one season. I hope they bounce back strong in 03.

    9. Carlos Ruiz is a freak.

    10. Note that two of the last three MLS champs did not make the playoffs the previous season. There's hope for United.

    11. Same old Albright. Always flubbing.

    12. Adin Brown is a rock.

    13. Carlos Ruiz is a freak.

    14. This was Veronica's last job at ABC.

    15. Wasn't that Alexi Lalas on the field during the game?

Congratulations to LA, especially Cobi and Cienfuegos who have always been class acts. When I saw Ruiz and team earlier this year, I knew this was a different LA team. Ruiz brought a spirt to the team that carried them to the final. Hopefully, he will be going to Europe quickly!

Although the style of play was understandable because of the magnitude of the game, it wasn't the greatest game until overtime. NE was pulling a KC (year 2000) by bunkering and hoping to counter attack LA. Boring...

I had not seen much of NE this year. However, I was impressed with the team unity and the improvement of several players. I had always thought that Heaps would be a good player. Kamler was a huge suprise during the first part of the game. Twellman is the real deal, except he can't create as well as Ruiz.

Finally, you need to give credit to Sigi the Blimp. He took Chris Albright and made him a productive player by giving him a well defined role. Enjoy this year because the Quakes will be back next year!
