. . . I have to bring something up that we NEVER talk about.

Other nationalities referring to us as "Argie" - which is defined as "chiefly a British slang, sometimes disparaging and offensive, used to refer to an Argentine"

The fu#King Mexican fans started a thread about the WC group and it refers to us in the title and over-over-over again as "Argie"

I know that I shouldn't let it bother me, but what pisses me off is how entitled the Mexicans feel about using this English offensive slang - I AM GOING TO ENJOY WATCHING THEM GET ELIMINATED AT GROUP LEVEL. BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT A GOOD FOOTBALL NATION. They are actually pretty terrible.

But regarding the term "Argie" - f#ck anyone that uses that term against us.

Sounds like they're now sinking into 5th world country.

But nevermind that... lets not forget who lifted the WC at their home soil..

and this is how hard we're going to spank them later this year..

Is there a team that is less successful than Mexico in WC?:ROFLMAO:

Yeah, I am guilty of a little shadenfreuden - I'll admit that I go into the other nation's forums to take pleasure when our nemesis are a sh$tshow. So its on me if I get upset about what I see what other nationals say about Argentineans, but I take particular offense when its stuff like that (Mexicans stealing the remark "Argie" from the Brits to disparage us)

The Chileans and Mexicans get under my skin the most. They are third rate football nations with limited success, and when they have a little success its its . . they give off "Small penis vibe" - there. That's what it is.

Lol I never liked the term either, but in this case I think you’re picking fights that don’t exist... “See, people are too hung up on the word itself instead of the intent. It's the intent of what you mean when you say something”

I’m pretty sure they saw it as an endearing or playful term rather than a provocative insult. Hell, I even know Argentineans who use that term

Agreed. . . but I guess we all have a little bit of Michael Jordan in us. Not sure if you guys saw the Last Dance, in the documentary it was revealed that MJ would make up fights in his mind with a rival just to get him pumped up (he needed to hate someone, for motivation). Maybe its true what you're saying @locoxriver , I am looking for the fight. . . but I am sticking to my small "#$@#$" vibe that they are putting out there :D

So it appears FIFA is considering the possibility of extending match times to 100 minutes ahead of the WC?

    https://football-italia.net/fifa-considering-playing-time-rule-change-ahead-of-2022-world-cup/

I like the idea of compensating for lost time, but why not just keep it at 90 minutes and stop the clock when the ball isn't in play instead? That way we'd not only make up for lost time from VAR reviews, but also encourage players to not roll on the grass and waste time. Makes more sense than adding ten minutes to the clock, imo..

FIFA denied those rumours. Would have been a terrible move imo.

FIFA instead should really clarify the # of players that is allowed for the WC squad though.

Lo Celso instrumental in getting Villa on the board. Great to see him looking sharp at club level again.

The coaches at Tottenham did not suit him. It happens. He's an excellent player just needs to take on the extra responsibility in midfield and believe in himself. A little more arrogance would not go amiss. He does defer a little too much compared to de Paul especially when Leo is about.

As for the timekeeping. They as in rugby should have an independent timekeeper. Stoppages, wasting time rolling about, subs in added time just stop the clock. Take the responsibility off the referee and everyone managers and players included can see it's pointless trying to waste time.

It's become a real problem. Especially the tactical injury to break up the opposition's control of a game. We see it all too often when we are on top as the opponents try to disrupt our flow.

Terrific performance from Lo Celso, especially the two clear-cut chances he created in the 2nd half.

If Benzema and Mbappe keep this up, France is going to be a handful to deal with.

Lo Celso is at his best when no one is giving him big responsibilities in attack nor defense.

He just doesn't like the spotlight and is happy to be a middle man, both inside and outside the pitch.
I think it's telling that no one knows his voice, rarely gives interviews, isn't covered in tattoos like all the other NT players, etc.

Lets be honest, Benzema in RM is like Messi in Barca. He has known the system too well.

Even Barca at their worst Messi would still get close to 40 goals plus countless assists.

NT is usually a whole different matter as it has different players with different system.

Lo Celso just needs to show more consistency like RDP does in NT. I never doubt his quality. We'll see how he does in return leg.

Speaking of France, their defence has always been a suspect and we've seen that in last 2 major tournaments.

It seems that the key to beat them would be outscoring them. Switzerland tied them and won the shootout. Sampe terrible team almost ties them ....if wasnt Meza.

There's an ongoing trend in which player deep into their 30s keeps delivering or having a resurgence. I hate to say it, but Alves in Copa 2019, then Lewa in recent years, Messi in last year Copa, Di Maria aswell, Bonucci & Chielini last year, and now Benzema.

Never write out top player until they properly retire.

Not sure, Pep style requires constant pressing to win the ball back that sometimes they didnt even play with a #9, especially in recent years as Aguero noted.

“Mancini is seriously considering calling up Marcos Senesi to the Italian NT. The 25 year old centre back is eligible to play for the azzurris. Mancini likes his profile and he could be a part of Italy's call-up in June.”

Before people throw a giant tantrum. I have to ask this. Who here actually watches or follows the Eredivisie and can discuss his season play? I do not mean him scoring one golazo or etc.

I know I don’t follow the Eredivisie at all - so would have no idea, but he was listed as one of the good prospects for us.

In other news, CONMEBOL and Concacaf are working to have a joint Copa America in the U.S. in 2024.

Finally, reports that the CONMEBOL qualifiers will change for the 2026 WC - split into two groups. Extra match days will be given to the joint Uefa-CONMEBOL Nations League.

I don’t like the idea of split CONMEBOL WCQ groups... if it’s like that theoretically the best teams don’t always qualify. You don’t have the same rivals, same standings...

100% prefer an everyone-vs-everyone home/away format. It gives the same playing field for all ten teams and guarantees that those who deserve to go most to the WC qualify.

Obviously trying to cut down on qualifiers for Nations League. That said with 2 added spots, if you can't finish top 3 in a group of five (assuming it's split evenly strength wise) you really don't deserve to go.
