Well not a whiteboard by a blow by blow of how you trade Junior Moreno for Chris Durkin. This is an "only in MLS" project involving both real money and Garberbucks.

No posts for three days running, y'all. Just making sure the forum still works. Any news on the Durkin/Taxi integration front?

Turns out Durkin isn't interesting enough to warrant a conversation, who knew :whistling:

I'm curious to see what the team looks like coming out of this break. Lots of practice time to get it right.
Olsen's teams (him again? I know, it's probably time to move on!) were notoriously dreadful coming out of these breaks. I want to see a coach improve the team during these times. I can't remember what happened in these scenarios last year, but tbf last year was a new thing for everyone. This year I think it's okay to hold Losada accountable.

They were 9-15-3 after two week breaks since 2012. So fair enough, probably overstated that. They were just plain bad, regardless.
Still, I want to see the team improving over these breaks, that definitely did not happen under Olsen.

You are more than a bit dubious, and I'd agree with the first part, too, insofar as my recollection is MLS ignored these breaks as often as they heeded them - honestly I'm having trouble really remembering through the covid fog. But we did mostly look like trash coming in from the offseason. If that counts. :D

Worse than par then, probably. I'm scared to ask how you figured that out. It either involved websites and tedium, or a spreadsheet, which, My God, Man. :geek:

Good luck everyone. Off to Italia for two months for the first big trip since the pandemic. I'll post (maybe) from time to time, but looking forward to good food and folks I haven't seen in 3 years.

I couldn't find a source for annual records to compare statistical performance around the data you provided.

Not easy to use: USA - DC United - Results and fixtures - Soccerway

pretty easy to use: D.C. United » Historical results (worldfootball.net)
(and my how time flies - just a random click on a game summary shows some interesting names D.C. United - Philadelphia Union 2:2 (Major League Soccer 2011, 5. Round) (worldfootball.net)

and the ever popular List of D.C. United seasons - Wikipedia deep dive into another lost productive day at work..... thank goodness I dont work for the man in the private sector!

Thanks. If we normalize the historically record since 2012 it's equivalent to 4.6-5.4-3 compared with 9-15-3. So @Yowza has a point.

Time to start moving on from Hernan Losada?

I actually think we've got a good mix of players to get to playoffs, but the system simply isn't working.

I hope not. I don't think he's done tinkering. I like the 'system', they are starting to play better, but they're impotent.
I think a few things are off. For one, they really miss Paredes and Arriola. Their ability to get to the end line to either make passes inside the six or to finish off said pass is missing. No dice with Yow, Perez, Flores, Robertha, they can't stretch the field. This surprises no one. It's just you don't realize what a big part of the attack that was now that it's gone. Reyna, too, as polarizing as he may be, was great at running in behind.
Maybe Taxi, but he seems more like a second striker. I can see a position change for Najar coming also. He has to be more influential. Still, they need another winger to stretch the defense to replace last year's crew.

Sorry man but this comment is a huge 'yikes.' We do not have the players to get us to the playoffs. We don't. We were projected to miss the playoffs by every analyst, and we're still projected to miss the playoffs. Some projected us to be a spoon candidate and that may still be reasonable.

We played two of the worst teams MLS has fielded in a decade right at the start of these season. Those losers didn't have anytime at all to gel and we managed to snag some points from them. Since then anyone vaguely competent has exposed us and we've scored a single goal in 195 minutes, and we've dropped 6 valuable points at home.

It's not really the system, since we're not running the 2021 Losada system anymore. We do run a high energy press perhaps 15-20 minutes of the game, usually around the time when the opponent makes a personnel change or after half time. Otherwise we're playing standard composure soccer common across the league.

It's clear to me we're treating this year as a rebuilding year. There is some hopes that second stringers like Djeffal and Yow and Durkin may become starters. There is less hope that Kamara will put in another 2021 season, less hope still that our 1.7 million dollar bust Flores is worthy of starting anymore, and even less hope that Estrada will become a performer for us (how do you say "the invisible man" in Spanish?).

I don't think we have good enough attackers to prosper. The rest of the team is OK, but we just don't threaten.

That is exactly it. 20 yards from goal and we don't make the last pass, shot, etc. We had so many opportunities to get in and the decisiveness wasn't there. Maybe Taxi helps there but we need Estrada.

So if you remove the best player from a mediocre team they get worse? Good to know.

It feels like most seasons are "rebuilding years" for, I don't know, the last dozen+ years, I think.

I get that he hasn't been performing well for us. I agree. But he did go 90 minutes on Tuesday in Peru to help his team lock up a WC playoff place after having gone 45 on Thursday night in Uruguay. Even had he been a rockstar for DC, there's every chance he wouldn't have started on Saturday. (Similarly, Miles Robinson (74th minute sub) didn't start for Atlanta after playing for the US on Sunday and Wednesday).
