Lmao came here to post this but you beat me to it. Hey if we win a World Cup with Armani as the 4th string keeper, he’s the ultimate anti-mufa and forever a football legend.

I mean Armani is the second or third keeper, so it shouldn’t make a difference to him if we take 3 or 4 GKs...

He was even supposed to be the starting keeper in Copa America, but a positive COVID pcr forced Scaloni to play Emi instead and the rest is history

Whatever their draw, they never win anything before and after 66. That would be the conclusion of this tournament aswell.

Out of these I think Canada might be the most useful as they are likely to bunker like most of our opponents. Ecuador is too familiar and USA is too schizophrenic, they have the ability to be interesting but they are just as likely to be routed by a team as strong as Argentina.

So, our opening match is going to be at 2AM PST… So, that means that game will be played at 12PM local time? These stadiums are air conditioned right? Even though this tournament is being held in the late fall, that does not sound appealing.

Mexico match will be played at 8AMPST
    Poland 7AM

Well, looks like I’ll staying up for the opening match. I try to watch many of the matches but certain ones I will likely skip.

Here is the schedule is anybody is interested.

If France keeps their first place spot, then I think we could have a nice path if we win our group. We will get the Dutch in the Quarters. On the other hand, England and France can square up in the QF. Brasil, assuming they’ll win their group, would have to go through either Portugal or Uruguay, which will be a bloodbath and then face Spain/ Germany or Belgium:Croatia. I think they’d want Croatia in the quarters.

Only thing is certain teams who are have later games, groups F, G and H can perhaps look at the draw and favor certain matches and decide to go all out and win or decide to drop points so that they can finish second.

Best case for us is that we win our group, France win their’s and if the Dutch do win their group are knocked out by the second in Group B in the R16.

I think we have a really favorable draw. But we must win our group and so does France.

Mexico won't bunker against us, it's not Tata's nor Mexico's historical philosophy. We should defo play the US.

We tend to score spectacular goals against them.

Argentina will scores another rocket that gonna blows them into orbit like Tevez & M Rodrigiez did....or Messi will lob their goalie again.

..or Lautaro getting his second hattrick againts Mexico.

Fair enough. A full strength US with the likes of Dest, Reyna, McKennie, and Pulisic starting should be able to test us a bit if they bring their A game. It's something they haven't had all through qualifying because of injuries.

While I said Canada bunkers they probably also have the best forward threats of the three so they could definitely hurt us on counters. They are pretty clinical with their chances.

Im so hyped about our draw and path to the semis. So hyped that i dont know how im gonna be able to contain my enthusiasm until (late) november.

Is not that i think we are the best team on the WC, but we are definetely among the 4 best teams, at that point (semis) is anyone's game and mostly luck. But we DO have a VERY favourable draw and a super strong mentality (we didnt have this before)

If Messi, De Paul, Dibu, Cuti, mantain their form, if we dont injure key players, if we schedule appropiate friendlies...good luck to our rivals facing us. We are a serious threat and im HYPED.

The mentality aspect is what excites me the most. Having won the Copa means there's really no longer any weight on their shoulders. They can just play knowing they have the full support of their fans instead of worrying about when the knives are going to come out. That's one of the biggest things that's been holding them back for years now.

That, and having an actual midfield this time too, lol.

Martinez, Musso, Benitez. It should not even be a question. Wasting a spot for flexibility as well. Dybala perhaps ? Madness.

I have good news folks. If Peru qualifies to the World Cup and make it through the groups, we are likely to face you in knockouts. Peru has played the eventual champions in every edition of the World Cup they've been in, meaning if you can get past us it's truly Messi's year!!!

Mexico opens up v Poland, if they take a L in the first game, then they’ll have no choice to come out guns a blazing against us. Mexico has not looked convincing in the least. I do not see them as a threat.

My only concern is that we avoid yellows. Remember, yellows carry over until the Quarters. So, if our players are going to pick them up, pick them up in the first two matches, where they’ll miss the third game and then I believe they’ll be given a clean slate. So, I’m looking at the hotheads like Paredes, Cuti and Otamendi. Discipline is key. The European refs are soft, they don’t let the games get played like they do in South America. So, we can’t miss key players in the semis.

In our first game, there should be none of this taking our opponents lightly. Four years ago, we perhaps saw Iceland as an easy opponent and that game was just awful. The Saudis all play in the same league, and will perhaps have a bit of time preparing, not to mention, this will probably be a home game for them. Even though we are popular in the Arab world, I’m sure they’ll get plenty of fan-fair.

The the Saudi’s will defend for their lives, and hope they’ll get draws against us and Poland and go for the win v the Mexicans. Therefore, it will be important to jump on them early. Once the first goal comes, it will be smooth sailing. I’ve looked at their record and since December on 19, they’ve only allowed more than a single goal twice. However, the only decent completion they’ve faced was Japan and Australia, who are having a down cycle. As others have noted, we shouldn’t show any mercy. Put the game to bed in the first half and just coast the rest of the game, where we sub out half the side around the 60-65th minute, which will include Messi.

Very much agree with your analysis. I'm pretty sure one, or two or even all three of them will miss a game due to suspension (we should also consider injuries as Romero seems to be injured during NT duty more often that we like), which is why quality depth is incredibly important.

Luckily, Lisandro is capable of playing competently in either CB or CDM so hopefully we'll be ok in this department. But with our luck with injuries right before the WC starts, I am so hoping that all of our key players be injury free when the tournament begins.

    From Marca:

Former Poland coach Antoni Piechniczek has dismissed the threat Lionel Messi poses to Poland and others at this winter's World Cup, citing the Argentine's age as a factor behind his apparent slowing down.

Messi hasn't been at his best since joining Paris Saint-Germain last summer, despite still putting up some decent numbers for the French side.

But Piechniczek, who coached Poland at the 1982 World Cup in Spain, says that seeing the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner face Poland"would have been more interesting if Messi was five or six years younger.

"Let's be honest, Messi is now the grandfather of the forest. He's no longer the player he was a few years ago and it remains to be seen what role he'll play at the World Cup."

    Messi on the bench?
Piechniczek went further, suggesting that Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni could even have the No.10 starting on the bench this winter.

"It's possible that he could be put on the bench, given his current level," Piechniczek added. "He can play a role like Zlatan Ibrahimovic with Sweden. He'll play the last 15-20 minutes, coming on as a substitute."

Despite his unusual dismissing of the world's best player, Piechniczek did concede that Messi could still go on to play an important part for Argentina.

"He could have a sensational tournament, I can't rule it out," Piechniczek said. "There are always surprises.

"But seeing how he looks with PSG, he's not the same Messi as before."
