Not convincing goal keeping. I'll take Turner or Horvath. Sry. Also, that was not a midfield to win with. I would have liked to see LDT start. He brings a little creativity at least. The refereeing...some things never change. We're in!!
Hopefully when the World Cup comes we will have a striker scoring goals somewhere in the world and a keeper playing regularly somewhere.
Disappointing for sure. We came out okay, actually getting a few decent shots on goal, and qualified. Which is great. BUT, as many have been saying for months, Steffen is a huge weakness. We are not Man City, and even a game where we’re evenly matched we’re in deep trouble if the opposing team can just get a few shots on goal…. I mean at this point it’s not hyperbole, he is going to allow goals on sequences most keepers just don’t.
Whoever is scoring goals when it comes time to name the roster. It didn’t work out, but in 2010 taking Herc and Buddle were the right calls. The same process should be used now since none of these guys are any good, really. Whoever is in the best form, goes.
Bingo. Enough. We have to be able to create through the middle. We kept going through the wings and the wings couldnt even get the ball into the box
I didn't think anyone played well, except maybe Musah and M Rob. That's okay, they were trying. Except for Acosta, who I think decided to take the second half off. The US really didn't care about anything after about the 75th minute, they were just playing out the string. Steffen atrocious. The second goal was obvious malfeasance, but even the first he looked like a statue toppling over.
Is this all due to lack of PT for Steffen? I think back to him in 2018 and 2019 and he was damn good for the NT and playing 90 mins consistently while in the Bundesliga.
Hovrath started his last 6-7 club games, right before this window. Made FA cup team of the week a couple times in a row. Hot hand ideal for warming the bench I guess
We have the best talent in the region, on paper, so finishing first would have been nice. But three points over 14 games isn't much of a margin. And any feeling that we "backed in" today is more an artifact of the order of games than anything having to with the team's performance.
Zimmerman. Robinson and everyone else pushed up to force CR players offside. Zimmerman, marking no one, kept EVERYONE onside. However, it is still on Steffen, who had an easy catch and flubbed it.
As a USMNT fan I don't know how you feel good about this. That was not even a full B team from CR. This is just plain embarrassing.
Forward is the one position I think we can bring a wild card, whether that’s a dual nat like Balogun or a young guy breaking out this year is the question.
you want an occasion like this to be champagne and cavier, but the reality is a celebratory s*** sandwich. such a miserable game. im sure everyones going to tee off of steffen, but the first goal was 100% on zim- unbelievably bad positioning. jedi was kinda good at times, musah and weah had moments (that led to nothing). luca was the only player i thought had an actual good match. it feels backwards- you usually go nuts at the accomplishment and settle in in the days that follow, but i just feel blegh. ill be more and more excited as i scrub this match out of my brains.
Our best talent is all under drinking age and none of them are like “top tier” players, so they have all the erratic performances you would expect. None of them project to be like Mbappe/Haaland/Foden level.
Nice of Zack Steffen to do that now and ruin a qualifying game instead of waiting to November and ruining a World Cup game.
I'm with Deuce on the PP post game show. I can't get past how bad this game was to feel happy about qualifying when it was basically a done deal after the last game. Wish it weren't so. We just got beat by the CR B-squad, and soundly, despite having all our best players. And it wasn't a flukey win, it was totally deserved. Plus this shitbag of a game by us is part of a pattern: We've sucked away from home in every game except Mexico and Hondo Part II. Doesn't bode well for how we'll play in the WC if we stumble against mid- and lower-table Concacaf ocho opposition. Not making any friends with this post, obviously, just keeping it real.
Macro-level, given the number of injuries and the expected goals numbers, the performance is fine. Looking more closely, some real strange choices from GGG as everyone's been screaming about.
I'm just gonna act like this game never happened. No point in dissecting it. We've got this upcoming summer then..... the WORLD CUP baby!!!.
If our style of play requires Adams to have better distribution, then we need to change the style of play, because he's never going to be very good at it. That's why this team always looks so shitty with both Adams and Acosta, because they both suck at it. They can't play together, full stop. Anyway, we're qualified! ******** yeah! No one will remember this game in 3 months.
