Watson to Cleveland, Matt Ryan to Indy, Jamies back to NO. So that leaves Baker with Atlanta, maybe Seattle, maybe Carolina, and maybe Detroit as potential landing spots. Detroit and Carolina already have a ton of money tied up into their trash QBs, can’t see that working with the cap. He’s on a rookie deal so maybe Cleveland just cuts him? Don’t know how much Atlanta or Seattle would really want him. Has to be Atlanta though, they have no QB now.
Atlanta seems to be in tank mode to get a QB in 2023. Mariota is the stopgap. The Carolina coach is on the hotseat so maybe they overpay for Mayfield. Seattle isn't going to start Drew Lock either.
Ryan is trash now, I don’t think Marriota is great but I’d take him and his much friendlier cap number.
I am one-day-old since I discovered the guy who plays Shrub in Welcome to Flatch also played the oldest son in the tragically-canceled, The Kids Are Alright. Whoa.
Well, and that's the problem. In the NFL of today you stand virtually no chance of going to the Super Bowl without a big stud QB. Used to be you could get by if you had a really strong team and a QB who didn't make a ton of mistakes. No more. If there's one position that he changed the sport in the last five years or so it's defensive back. There are suddenly big, strong, ridiculously fast, skilled people all over the league now and college is jammed full of them. You have to find someone who can beat them or you lose. In the AFC you've got good young ones like Burrow, Allen, Maholmes, Watson, Herbert and maybe Jackson. That's really it. (Maybe Trevor Lawrence if he can wash the stench of Urban Meyer off) Signing Mariota is an admission that you're not going to win the Super Bowl and you know it. Same thing with Mariota. They're stop gaps, somebody you bring in because you've gotta have somebody.
In news of the absurd today, Russia has just submitted a bid to host UEFA Cup 2028. A joint UK/Ireland bid was previously the only candidate, but since Russia is still officially a member the rules say they must be allowed to make a presentation. In other news the Qatar draw will be held for the first time with 3 slots left vacant. Two open positions will go to the winners of interconfederation playoffs yet to be held and in addition Ukraine was scheduled to play Scotland but has been granted a postponement, so final positioning is up in the air until at least June.
True, but given how FIFA works (and yes, I realize this is UEFA, but).... There's a lot of time between now and 2028.
So the recipe calls for 3 tbsp of bourbon. All I have is Gentleman Jack. Is that Bourbon ? Well, I have a lot of scotch too but I'm guessing that's out.
Evidently, it's technically not bourbon, though I'm unable to discern why. A central reason may be that "Tennessee whiskey" likes to differentiate itself from bourbon for marketing purposes. It's Jack Daniels with additional filtration. JD has an 80% corn mash bill (bourbon must be at least 51%) and it's aged in American White Oak barrels (just like bourbon). While not technically a bourbon, for the purposes of a recipe should be damned close enough.
Yes, it works. Tennessee has their own standards for labels. People will say that bourbon has to be from Kentucky, but worldwide - if it’s 80 proof, made in the US, 51% or more corn, and aged in charred oak barrels, it’s bourbon.
So She Who Must Be Obeyed has decided - excuse me, I mean I myself have chosen, of my own free will as a grownup man - to spend a week in Kansas City in May. Has anyone been to KC? What does one do there other than pray for death?
I was there in August of 2002 (?) for a conference. I stayed downtown, and it was as dead as a doornail. Maybe that's changed in 20 years. The Crew were in town, so I taxied (pre-uber days) to Arrowhead to see the Crew play the Wizards. (Arrowhead is HUGE.)
I'm guessing Let It Ride will be easier to find than a 3:2 single deck blackjack game. One COVID casualty was decent table game odds and it's an industry wide phenomenon.
The Harry Truman National Historic Site & Presidential Library is in nearby Independence, if you're into that sort of thing. The Kansas City Fed has a pretty interesting tour & museum. There's a Nascar race on May 15th. Otherwise: drinks & bbq.
I went a few years back...Boulevard Brewing is a solid stop. The Power & Light District was the "popular" area at the time with plenty of places to try. Otherwise look for the most shady looking BBQ place and try it...chances are you'll have the best BBQ of your life...or you'll get stabbed...or both.
