The market down there is hungry. How long until Precourt screws it up? Austin FC nominated for Sports Business Journal's Team of the Year award
In all honesty I dont expect him to screw up much down there. He was an incompetent dipshit when he was here....but it was basically intentional. I hate Precourt, and im in the camp of people that dont think Austin FC even deserves to be a team (at least at this point in time). With that said, for every thing they do down there that seems corny to us or whatever....theyre killing it off the field, and the on-field product is slowly catching up. From the get go I thought they would do fine attendance wise. I think the only thing he could possibly do wrong is like....something that comes off culturally tone deaf or something. I imagine if things ever get uncomfortable for him there, he will just quietly divest himself of the thing and let others buy him out, and just slink away....and the team will be even better off for it.
I'm not convinced he'll screw it up, either, but I won't be at all surprised when he steps in something. I think we're of the same mind, though I'm over most of my animosity toward the Austin organization. I hope they are a mid-table franchise in all aspects for the next 100 years, if not longer. And I hope that everyone who left the Crew org to follow Precourt finishes their career there. Screw those people.
But that was why Garber had such a big old boner on for the Austin market; there's literally no other professional sport competing for the local marketing dollar or the fan dollar either. So as a new team coming into an empty market, they sold a lot of shirts and pocketed a bunch of sponsor money. Even a halfassed punk like LaughLame and his slimy boss with zero professional credentials weren't able to screw it up. Give them a couple years. Incompetence will out.
I'm guessing he's been removed from most day to day operations at this point. His job is to eat queso, cash or write checks and stay silent. He might have some shiny name that makes you think he's involved but his only involvement is being the butt of most office related jokes.
I hate Discord in general, I don’t get why ‘young folk’ like it, just seems messy to me. And I’m an old man (35 lol). I use Reddit all the time, but don’t visit the Crew forum much, way too naive and overly positive about everything. I do use Reddit to look at what other teams fans are saying though. I very rarely leave the Crew forum on BS.
I've started chatting with the folks on Discord, but yeah - not a fan of the platform. Reddit is a cesspool for the reasons you outlined. It's the breeding ground of toxic positivity. Other than you loveable folks, the only other place I have Crew discussions on the interwebs is twitter.
OK, I’m just stating what I’m seeing in SW Ohio. Twitter has a couple of FCC reporters with subscription based columns, and a podcast that gets a decent following. Discord has stuff. I don’t do Reddit myself, but occasionally links show up in Twitter. And then there’s Facebook. All I can say about that is Facebook Facebooks. There has been almost no activity, and absolutely no useful activity in the FCC forum here. I don’t find this unusual compared to other forums I used to follow. Activity is down across the board. I might as well subscribe to a listserve or majordomo mailing list. They’re going the way of usenet. That said, when it comes to serious lay discussion of soccer, BS is still pretty solid.
Shout out to Austin for their 21st straight sell out. Not bad considering that so many thought the stadium was in the middle of nowhere and that the club was destined to fall flat on it's face. Also, we shoulda hired Josh Wolff....
I don't. Hang just likes to rile people up with posts like the one you responded to. We shouldn't care what happens in Austin, but we should always hate on Precourt.
