Does he know he'll be playing/training outdoors and not in an arena in Houston?

Herrera has had a very good career in Europe, he will be turning 32 next month. I think it is the right decision for him and his family. He will be getting paid three times as much as what he is currently making at Atletico, taxes are way lower in Texas than in Spain. I'm sure he would stay in Europe if the money was close, but he is set himself and his family in the last years of his late prime.

Makes sense for him financially but I think he had more to give in Europe. Oh well, good luck to him. Dude worked hard to get where he's at.

Nobody's disputing the economic side. It's know st that he still had a lot to give in Europe, he's finally a regular starter in a top team and that going to a trash league such as the MLS when the WC is right around the corner is downright terrible.

The thing is he probably made his decision BEFORE he became a regular starter. Just last fecha FIFA people were bitching about him not playing. Also this is probably the most games in a row he’s started since he’s been at pathetico madrid and why? Because of injuries of other players. Sadly there’s no way herrera would be playing this much, specially the important games if Koke was available

You’re right my bad lol i haven’t watched their last few games and just assumed he was still injured

But the point I was trying to make was that he probably made the decision to leave before cholo actually gave him this chance

I think for a young player, your right the Spanish league or any of the top 5 leagues in Europe is better for development, more competitive its where the top futbol is. For an older player like Herrera the move is fine. He will be playing regularly, the MLS is a fine league outside of Europe, especially for the pace and staying in top form physically. Yes, tactically and technically it is behind the top league, but it is improving every year. There is no guarantee he will be playing consistently for Atletico, he has had a few good runs of playing time in the past, but Simeone does not rate him that high, I'm sure once this Champions league run is over, they will get some new midfielders and it's back to the 15 to 20 minutes for Herrera. It's a shame because for the most part Herrera has always shown his quality at Atletico.

For midfielders like Herrera, he just needs fitness and rhythm. It’s not like he is a player that cuts and dribbles through defenses, he simply links the play and cuts the plays. He’ll be okay. Definitely still should be phased out of the NT.

Yeah, I think if he got the offer right now he'd probably be less willing to take it... Players also need to feel wanted, that's why Guardado is still at Betis after 5 years.

The Koke inclusion was actually a bit surprising, but your point is valid. He's only getting these minutes because it's been a revolving door of injuries between Thomas, Koke, Kondogbia, and even Llorente at times. Most of HH's minutes have come when the starters have been injured.

I think 32 is too young to basically retire but hey, more money. I think the real question(s) with Herrera should be whether or not he'll be able to keep his form and is able to play at the level he's currently at after a couple months of playing in the mls. I would hope once this season is over in May he takes some time off then goes to Houston in July or August.

This makes the assumption he's going to stay as a starter. If Atletico don't get past City in the CL, even less of a need for the team to be rotated. What happens if he goes back to the bench in the next couple of games?
