This would be hilarious. Most teams either get an aging star looking for one last paycheck to drive fan interest, or they get a lesser known and less expensive but extremely talented South American youngster. It would be the most Quakes thing ever to take the worst parts of those two -- a lesser known South American has been. On the bright side, he has 4 first team league goals in the last two seasons, just the same as Benji!
I'm pretty sure Wondo decided that, not the club. I'm guessing Wondo would be playing right now if that was an option. So we need a new acronym for FoM.... Really Old Friend's of Matias: ROFoM.
Not so sure I believe that. Almeyda wasn't playing him so he probably decided to retire or he felt like he was being pushed out.
Can't be like Donovan. He actually went abroad and had a successful career as opposed to going home before he could develop with the best.
Looks like Guerrero barely played in 2020 and 2021. Last year, 200-something minutes and 1 goal. If we got him he’d have to be a sub at 80’ when you need a goal guy I think. Heck I’d rather we go the other way and sign 15-year old Cruz Medina
If I remember correctly, Alan Gordon told a story about him on the old BSI podcast. The Quakes didn't do any medicals on the guy or proper scouting, just signed him I guess out of desperation (not much has changed!). The guy shows up out of shape and injured. He bails in the middle of a training session during a conditioning drill, his car kicking up dust, never to be seen again. Even if it wasn't Zura, it was a great story. Very much MLS 1.0 kind of story, a mindset the current ownership seems stuck in.
As soon as Zura got here, he was out of shape and couldn't run or do anything. I remember some people close to the team telling me Yallop looked at him and said who did you bring me and what's he doing here? Three weeks later he was gone.
By far and away the worst Quakes signing ever and that’s saying something. Innocent could at least get out there and run around. Zura did play a little bit in one game - I think it was against LA.
There was a fantastic Hitler-bunker-movie-dubbed-spoof about this episode, with Lew Wolff in the Hitler role and John Doyle as a German general. If someone has the time to dig it up, it's always good for several belly laughs.

That doesn't mean anything. Anyone can say those things to save face but I question what kind of offer Chris Leitch gave him exactly. If Almeyda gave Chris mop up minutes last year at 38 , he probably will have done the same if not less this year at 39 and Wondo probably said forget it. I seriously doubt it was a bona fide offer so why should he bust his arse if he is getting the same amount doing nothing sitting behind a desk? Anyway, to each his own but I thoroughly believe Wondo could have strongly contributed to the club this season. If he picked up where he left off in his last two games where he scored 2 goals 4 months ago, he is still that much better than what we got currently which is a team that can't score any goals from the run of play. Of course Wondo will have always scored goals. I also doubt he would be worse than a 38 year old Paolo Guerrero who hasn't played in over a year. Either way, Wondo is gone so we are building for the future. What a great team we have! Almeyda & Fisher out!
Remember falvo, Wondo and wife just had a baby boy to go along with 2 young girls. I think he didn’t really want to be away from home a lot yet another year.
That doesn't mean anything! (Because I am sure falvo can dig up photos of players with multiple young kids).
So what? That's just another excuse. Shea Salinas just had a baby too making 3 altogether I believe. He also has a real estate project going with his wife. Almeyda just didn't want to sign or play him anymore and they phased him out. It's more than evident. If I were Fisher, I'd fire Almeyda and his assistants and make Wondo a player coach...
