The Tories are useless. Labour would have us in an even worse spot if we're being honest with ourselves. It was from that side of the house that the initial outcry against abramovich began. Sanctions would have been immediate and probably even harsher.

At least the Tory incompetence gave him time to get some ducks in a row :D

My original point still stands. He is still tied to the club and vice versa and will do until it is permitted to be sold.

To re-cap. The Government are not selling the club. A merchant bank in the United States - Raine - is selling the club on behalf of the owner. The owner - and we dare not speak his name - will look at the proposals. The proposals are being summarised and presented to the owner who we are assured wants the best for the club. The owner gets to make the decision. Offers are in for a deadline on Friday. The initial period of sanctions are in place until May 31. Sanctions will continue with the new owner/s.

Limbo? A further licence allowing the sale will happen. I think it is fair to say the UK government is open to the sale of the club.

btw - where is the owner? He was recently seen in an Israeli airport and is now thought to have flown to Moscow.

    Chelsea v Real Madrid

    Man City/Atletico Madrid v Chelsea/Real Madrid

Well we might get past Real Madrid again? Although Real Madrid have hit some very good form. But will we get past City over two legs?

Liverpool have the more interesting route.
    Benfica/Liverpool v Villarreal/Bayern Munich

In fairness, Labour has been rather incompetent over the last few years. Especially as they can't oust an overgrown six year old. Only difference is they wouldn't be caught lying about Abramovich already being on sanctions. Unlike the six year old.

Either way, at this point I'm just sitting back and waiting to see what happens.

No. We'd have been in a lot better position because the sanctions would have been directed at the owner, not the fans or ordinary working people like the kitchen staff and cleaners who are presently losing out.

Of course, the tories are hopelessly compromised because they've been bankrolled by Russian money for several years now so would rather direct the rubes attention against ordinary people's interest, particularly scum like football supporters.

RM is much improved this year and there's always that revenge factor. Still, we can beat them.

Leverage. That's the most important thing to avoid.

Leveraging. for instance, I mean that bloke Nick Candy, no doubt he is rich, but perhaps not rich enough? lifelong fan which is a plus. but can he really afford the dream? He is bringing in his buddies from south korea, so maybe.

Although the official deadline to purchase was 21:00 GMT on Friday, some final bids are likely to be submitted into the weekend.

More than 20 interested parties, but the number of confirmed bids is likely to be between 10 to 15.

the media has been talking about being over priced? Well, why so many bids then? I mean seriously this is not some shitty piece of real estate in Newcastle or Manchester or Liverpool. This is a top club, world champions, great academy and one of the most expensive real estate areas in the world. 3bn, maybe not, but the price is going to be pretty close to that.

The shortlist announced next week, with the preferred bidder then requiring UK government approval, which will involve proving the source of funds and where the money goes next. [we should have made this whole process into a TV special documentary for netflix or even a Survivor Special].

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said : "The quickest one [sale of a club] we've done is 10 days, but that's not to say it can't be beaten. Normally it's a matter of weeks but it depends on the complexities and the number of potential owners."

As I say, in PR terms, my favourites to win, if i were a gambling man, would be Lord Coe and Sir Martin, they are above reproach in the UK media. Staunch British establishment. I mean I always preferred Steve Ovett to Seb, but there he is, a Lord, he did the Olympics in 2012, etc. A lord on the board. Sir Martin also saying all the proper things. I mean their tory friends literally own the british press. I am not saying I am a fan of them as people. But they are ticking all the boxes which are now somehow appropriate.

Roman had one of his private jets seized in the US. But Roman was on another one of his private jets in Israel at the time. Apparently his jet could not be seized in Israel because there are not close enough ties between Israel and the US.

Man City owners and human rights abuses. An article from 2018.
    https://www.theguardian.com/comment...uman-rights-man-city-jailing-british-academic
City fans knew that the UAE had a dodgy human rights record. But many preferred to turn a blind eye. The ethically bankrupt Man City and Newcastle football clubs are just the tip of the iceberg. A witch hunt would be a lot of fun at this point. We could start with the location and venue for the next World Cup perhaps?

We cannot simply ignore the fact that City are owned by a totalitarian state called Abu Dhabi. Owning a football club has been tremendous propaganda for the totalitarian state. When we hear “UAE” or “Abu Dhabi,” it’s not human rights violations which come to mind, but a football club. Bingo.

Sounds like Saudis are very close to having their bid accepted.

I know, we shouldn't have political comments on here, but, I do like that bloke in charge in the Ukraine. I just saw a clip of him in which he stated that his forces had "occupied tik-tok"

Chelsea supporters will be able to buy tickets to FA cup and Champions league games, away men's premier League games and home and away woman's super League games.

The ban on home supporters buying premier League tickets remain.

If these political comments were made, I can also say I disagree, and that I see the “bloke in charge in Ukraine” as one of the most bizarre pseudo-leaderships this world has ever gave birth to. I have almost the same amount of critics to him as I have for Putin (almost). I won’t start arguing on that, as it’s not the goal of this forum, right? I just posted this message not to have the “great leader” opinion looking like unanimous, as maybe the feeling of unanimity brought the thought this could have been said in such a forum without disagreements in sight. Now back to Chelsea…

Dude, the guy's still IN Kyiv, unlike the nazi on the other side that won't even get within his own generals without a 50 foot table between them :D

He's both physically brave AND has been a great war leader against a bunch of crooks and fascists and he deserves our support.

A short lists has been made. Are you on it?
Next up is the Premier League's test. Known as the 'fit and proper persons test'. Yep. You couldn't make that up.
The two front running consortium are those of Sir Martin Broughton and Todd Boehly apparently.

Sir Martin Broughton's bid to take over Chelsea is being backed by Sacramento Kings owner, Vivek Ranadive. The other revealed backer of Broughton's bid, American businessman Josh Harris. And of course Lord Coe is there.
