A toast to Alejandro and Gyasi. I would rep your post, my dear puttputt. Yet your last (not-quoted-here) sentence stopped me.
Absolutely. In the end, I'm typically on the side of players and player empowerment when it comes to players movement. Mo Salah has played for Basel, Chelsea, Fiorentina, Roma and Liverpool since 2014. Good for him. Thierry Henry played for Monaco, Juve, Arsenal, Barcelona, Player movement is good. Christian Vieri played for 12 clubs. Rivaldo 15 clubs. Andy Cole 12 clubs. Robbie Keane 11. Peter Crouch 10 clubs. I like each of those players. Might even love more than one of them.
The following former Crew players are currently on the rosters of USL Championship teams: Abu, Mohammed San Antonio Crognale, Alex Birmingham Lillard, Grant Loudon Utd. Manneh, Kakuta San Antonio Maloney, Conner San Antonio Ryden, Kalen New Mexico United Williams, JJ FC Tulsa
Salah was certainly not making lateral moves, nor was Henry. Kei would wear out his welcome so badly that even in years when he was producing he wasn’t worth resigning.
I can't believe you made me go back to watch MLS Cup 2015 highlights. The goal was all Kamara, who spun in a little circle with the ball under intense pressure and slotted home. It is true that Pipa toed at the ball which found its way to Kei to do all the work. It's a highly, highly questionable assist. Also, Corey Parker blew it. The ball was 18" out of bounds.
I do not accept that blame, Zip. Not in a million years. Hey @hangthadj - from a fellow #TeamKei supporter, your relentless defense of Kei is admirable, exhausting, and at times, stretching past a point of sanity. Nonetheless I find the defense to be true to you.
Isn't this a league that gives out two assists on goals. Higuain, the supposed midfield maestro, topped 10 regular season assists with the Crew once. There is a relentless defense and mythologizing that stretches past the point of sanity here, but it comes not from I.
In all honesty, I agree with a lot of what you are saying, even here. Not a popular stance, I admit, but I would stand proudly at a Crew tribute to Kei. From a 2018 Massive Report: [In fact, Kamara looks back on his time in Columbus favorably, as he still has family in the city and referred to the town as his “second-biggest home base.” “It’s the team that drafted me, what, 13 years ago, so there’s a lot of history,” he said, “But to me, about what happened a couple years ago, come on, that’s way gone.” According to Kamara, any animosity between him and Higuain is long in the past. The two saw each other in preseason, while both teams were in Hawaii, and worked out any issues. “We took some time to talk and all that,” Kamara said. “We’re teammates, no matter what happened in the past. The MLS is one big family, so no matter what happens between you and players, you’re definitely going to see each other again.”] ... if Kei and Pipa can work it out, maybe we have hope for you and... well everyone, bud. Lots of love to you.
Cincinnati have the Crew $300,000 in Garberbux for Manneh. Rather a comedown to end up at 27 years old with SA.
I see the point you are making, but MLS clubs do not exactly have a sterling reputation of offering coaching gigs to African Americans.
born and raised there until he was 12. Moved to the US to live with his aunt to avoid getting recruited by warlords at home. I’d say he’s about as American as anybody.
As they noted in Stripes "We're Americans--we've been kicked out of every decent country in the world!".
Maybe they can even show the video of him screaming at Anor to get up after shredding his acl. that would be cool
Ezra deserves congratulations on his first head coaching win. Chicago still hasn't conceded a goal through 3 games.
Kei Kamara earned U.S. citizenship in 2006. https://www.immigration-america.com/blog/immigrant-athletes/kei-kamara-a-terrific-crew-member
Thanks for finding that image. All this talk about Kei made me think of that incident. I was sitting in the front row along the west sideline at HCS, close to location where that happened. I will never forget the way that Kei reacted after he drilled Bernardo. The total lack of humility and compassion he showed was astounding. When he came back to The Crew later, I was not surprised when he got into it with Pipa over the pk. The bullshit he and Brek Shea pulled when we were trying to save our club speaks volumes about his character. There is a reason why Kei has now played for 14 professional teams.
"The way that he pointed to a tattoo, yelled at a player, and requested the ball for a penalty kick says a lot about his character," they said of the refugee who's humanitarian work has been recognized on multiple continents. We really have the best fans in the world. Salt of the earth people.
