Details are out about the 2022-23 CONCACAF Nations League.

    https://www.concacaf.com/nations-le...af-nations-league-presented-by-qatar-airways/

Group stage games will be played in June of 2022 (4 matchdays) and March of 2023 (2 matchdays) with the Finals round in June of 2023.

The draw for groups will be April 4, 2022.
Pots will be determined by CONCACAF rankings as of March 2022.

Current league members based on the results of the 2019-20 CNL:

League A will have 3 member groups so teams will not play every matchday.

Looking forward to the draw for this. Aside from the US group, I'm probably most interested in Suriname's draw, and if they are able to remain in Group A/get better now that they are using dual-nationals.

On that note, I'm also really hoping CONCACAF changes their rules away from the strict FIFA player eligibility rules when it comes to the non-FIFA members (specifically Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana). Example: French Guiana should have been able to use Florent Malouda/not have had to forfeit.

Watching the Milan Derby, I realized Mike Maignan was born in French Guiana. Really like to see players like him (or maybe just a notch below) be able to play in these if they don't get into the French squad (even if they've previously been capped).

The increased competition that will lead to will ultimately only help all member nations.

Pots for the Draw based on (current rankings) and *Qualification standings:
    League A:
    Pot 1: (1)Mexico, (2)USA, (3) Canada, (5)Panama*
    Pot 2: (4)Costa Rica*, (6)Jamaica, (8) El Salvador, (10) Honduras
    Pot 3: (11) Curacao, (13)Martinique, (14) Suriname, (25) Grenada
    League B:
    Pot 1: (7)Haiti, (9)Guatemala, (12)Trinidad&Tobago, (15)Cuba
    Pot 2: (16) Guadeloupe, (17)French Guiana, (18)Nicaragua, (19)Bermuda
    Pot 3: (20)Antigua&B, (22)Guyana, (23)Dominican Republic, (24)St Vincent&G
    Pot 4: (26)Belize, (27)Montserrat, (31)Barbados, (33)Bahamas
    League C:
    Pot 1: (21)St Kitts&Nevis, (28)Puerto Rico, (29)Bonaire, (30)St Lucia
    Pot 2: (32)Dominica, (34)Aruba, (35)Cayman Isl, (36)Turks&Caicos
    Pot 3: (37)Saint Martin, (38)Sint Maarten, (39)US Virgin Isl, (40)Anguilla, (41)British Virgin Isl

Listing these out, makes me question: If the purpose of Nations League is to get more competitive games for smaller nations, should League C have 16 teams, and League B the odd number of 13 teams? I'm thinking the top teams (Haiti, Guatemala, T&T) can better use the odd/'buy' dates to schedule friendlies than the League C teams...

I wonder what the travel will be like for the team in the WCQ playoff in Qatar on June 13 or 14.

Wow, in League B it is possible for a group to end up with Bermuda, Dominican Republic and Montserrat as the from Pots 2, 3, and 4. One of those teams, or the Pot 1 teams, would have to go down to League C.

It would be like Guatemala or Guadeloupe all over again winning every game by 6-8 goals.

Their group is going to be important. Of the likely Pot 2 teams, I feel El Salvador is the only one that may not go into rebuild/re-tool mode after WCQ. So for the Pot 3 teams, not being in the same group as El Salvador may be an enormous factor.

Since the U.S. won Nations League, Ryan Gravenberch committed to the Netherlands, so Suriname's player pool lost their biggest potential piece.

I feel short-term, Curacao is a much bigger threat than Suriname.

  7. Gravenberch was never a potential piece for Surinam.
Players born in the Netherlands with Surinam roots will only be second rank players if they choose Surinam. Nobody from those with Surinam roots is going to choose Surinam over the Netherlands when they are in the running for the Orange Squad.

In retrospect, I'm surprised that League A team didn't skip the tournament, and stay in the League for next time, moving the odd team to League A.

Promotion or bust for Puerto Rico...

OTOH, St. Kitts and Aruba cannot be happy to run into each other.

Cuba run it back with their WCQ squad and they're going up.

For Haiti, I do not like those away trips (distance, remote and unfamiliar locales, etc.), but that's what we get for blinking last time. We're the best team in the group on paper (give-or-take players who may be done with coach JJ Pierre), but gotta bear it out in the games.

Trinidad and Tobago should tread lightly, or Nicaragua could punk them...

And for Guatemala, the only inconvenience in their group will be having to acknowledge Belize's existence :D

Nice change of pace for a Canada-Honduras matchup to leave the latter trembling in fear :ROFLMAO:

And an early chance for Panama to save some face after their WCQ campaign stalled at the worst possible time.

    This needs to be clarified:

League A will play 4 games in the June FIFA window... but the World Cup-bound teams will only play two, using up their byes on the other two matchdays.

From what's been rumored, and on the odd chance they can score a Euro friendly before the UEFA NL begins: Canada, Mexico and the US will use up their byes on Matchdays 1 and 2, leaving the other teams in their respective groups to play home-and-away, before joining in for Matchdays 3 and 4. Costa Rica, OTOH, will play on Matchdays 1 and 2, then leave Panama and Martinique to themselves while the Ticos head to Qatar for the playoff.

To this point, has anyone floated the idea of bringing participants into CONCACAF Nations League from outside the confed? I'd imagine there are a fair number of national teams that would benefit from participation in pursuit of potential qualification to the Gold Cup, and I think it would be good for member nations as the depth of competition would improve and the difficulty of qualifying would increase.

The first place that I would look is the entirety of the OFC. I'd be curious to see how far New Zealand can go, for example.

Far more likely that pressure increases on FIFA to set up a Global Nations League.

@Paul Calixte there's rumors that Mariano Díaz is talking to the Dominican Republic managers.

I have yet to confirm it from a reliable source.

I would love to see him play against Guatemala.
