He ended up making a pretty influential play by... not trying to make a play, and letting someone else make the play. I'll just leave it there for now, but the highlights will make it clear I figure.
I'd imagine it's only a matter of time with Balogun - or the Tillmans, or Mighten, or Shashoua. It just comes down whether or not they're good enough. IMHO, some of them shouldn't even be thinking about which NT to represent before they become good enough for at least one of them. Balogun seems pretty good. But again, Tyler Boyd was once ripping it up in Turkey. Kenny Saief was very impressive in Belgium. I am not sure Malik Sanogo is going to make the U.S. U-20 team.
Playing for the usmnt basically killed Kenny Saief’s career. Very sad. He was a player we could have really used at the time and he was playing well.
Balogun strikes me as a similar player to where Weah was a couple years ago. I'm excited to see how the rest of this season goes for him with Boro- that he's finally getting big-boy minutes to test himself after unloading on u23s. I could see a return to Arsenal as well- at the very least over the summer to get a sense of where he might fit in if other guys leave (Lacazette).
I’ve only seen a couple of games of his. Looked fine, has some tools, but there wasn’t an it factor in how he played, but can’t judge on that small sample. If he turns out to be a Weah type I would be very, very happy. Can’t see him making an England impression anytime soon, if ever. You hit on what I always do with young ones. Go prove it against men. That’s the barometer. Until then it’s just hoping for hopes sake.
did you get to see any of his u23 games? that's where he really popped to me- albeit in limited viewing on my end. he was like a boy amongst men there, and seemed faster, more explosive and more skilled than the people around him. that's where I saw the Weah comps- especially how he attacked players and space. I feel like he showed more foot skills than younger Weah even. but lots of intangibles that will get resolved or not vs men- overall work rate, tactical awareness and execution at speed especially. in his previous limited minutes with Arsenal- he looked like he could belong, but didn't consistently pop on any front.
I don't think he's done anything at Boro to suggest that he's good enough yet to be part of the Arsenal rotation. Preseason, sure, but I'd be stunned (and disappointed) if he's there when the transfer window closes. Another loan is on the cards for him next season; how he plays over the next 10 weeks will determine whether that loan is in the Championship or the Premier League. I think it will be the former.
oh- absolutely. I didn't make it at all clear that the return in my thinking was contingent on him pulling up his big-boy pants and creating goals for Boro over the rest of the season. So far- he looks good and like he belongs... but still needs to produce.
I did and that’s why you simply can’t make judgements on only a viewing or two, let alone clip shows. I expected him to make more of an impression, but he only did here or there. Enough folks with level heads like him well enough so I will keep checking in and hoping. Haven’t watched his loan minutes.
https://www.football.london/arsenal...r.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar Folarin Balogun is expected to commit his long-term international future to the United States, football.london understands. The forward has played for England throughout his youth career, but has also featured for the USA at Under-18 level. He is also eligible to play for Nigeria, although it's understood that Balogun will follow in the footsteps of former Arsenal academy product Yunus Musah who switched from England to the USA. Balogun was born in New York City to Nigerian parents and moved to England at the age of two years old, before trialling with both Arsenal and Tottenham and joining the eventually joining the Gunners. No Idea how credible Football.London is.

since CP joined Chels, my google news feed gets regular hits from them. what I know is only based on that- and I never actually go to the site to see the breadth of their reporting... but what I've read from there is usually hot-take post-game stuff or guessed at lineup stuff... kind of like what we do here. They never struck me as a media outlet that would break a story involving any kind of investigative reporting.
Balogun with a consolation goal in a bad loss to Sheffield United. Highly recommended for blooper fans. Folarin Balogun's 1st goal for Middlesbrough has arrived! Flo scores just 2 minutes after coming on for Boro.Congrats @balogun !!! pic.twitter.com/O5HzNcQa5i— Will Balsam (@willbalsam) March 8, 2022
Wow - Balogun steals from the keeper and slots it into the empty net ... because Foderingham slipped trying to play it long and couldn't get up as quickly as Balogun could get to the loose ball. But they all count. His first goal for Middlesbrough.
If there's a time to do that as a goalkeeper, 3-0 up is probably it. Good to see Balogun get off the mark at Boro.
