Awful. Simple as. I thought in worst case scenario we'd see him at Pachuca or America de Mexico...but this would be brutal.

    Don't do it, kid.

Ugh don't do it, just bet on yourself and take a mid range move and if you tear it up get the big contract after that.

Hopefully Talleres financial needs don't drive the decision but I'm worried.

Agree with Villus, hoping that Valoyes makes the right choice but, honestly, we haven't seen any of the European links that Fassi said were there for Valoyes.

Reading that if they agree payment terms it's a done deal.

Fassi did his head in promising a European move if he stayed another six months this past summer. Kid helped them get to a cup final and qualify for Libertadores and now goes to Saudi Arabia? Doesn't this kid have an agent?

    So bummed.

Agreed... AND also a lot on how those players are counseled and what they understand their market to be.

In fairness, this isn't as bad as Cuellar choosing Arabia over Seria A when he had two offers on the table since we only know of the Ahli offer for Valoyes.

I am just frustrated to have one of our potential players for future at risk to come off the board.

Saudi Arabia at this point is basically a death sentence for the national team with the options we have I'd say, and not many bigger clubs are going to be looking at a relatively unproven up and comer without national team appearances and playing in Saudi Arabia, Cuellar at least feels like he had more of a resume to fall back on down the line. You can go to SA and cash in later, must be a shitty agent just trying to max his pay day.

    Lame

If this were true, shame on whoever is negotiating on Valoyes behalf. Getting gamed by the team, which sees the chance at a record transfer, while basically putting a ceiling on the kid's career.

    A ray of hope.

    https://www.lavoz.com.ar/deportes/f...hli-de-arabia-saudita-por-diego-valoyes/?s=09

    Though if this is true:

    - Fassi is publicly saying he will accept $6.5M on player whose price he had set at $12M.

    - Fassi is saying he can't get someone in SA or Europe to beat $6.5M on the best foreign player and best RW in his league?

If he is really willing to let Valoyes go for $6.5M (~5M Euros), I am shocked Pachuca isn't that hitting that much less the German and Italian teams Fassi supposedly had lined up.

Id prefer this to Arabia but still would rather Europe obvi.

Hope this is true in the sense would mean that the Ahli deal isn't done.

I mean MLS attendance is prob higher than any of the SA leagues bar Brasil, at a higher ticket price and with solid TV deals now (and added revenue from the cross over mini league with Liga MX) - they are going to increasingly be an attractive destination for SA talent that doesn't want to worry about the Argentine currency or safety (Valoyes's car was broken into in Cordoba earlier this year, for example).

If it's MLS vs. Arabia I hope he comes here just so he stays on NT radar, but at 25 likelihood he then moves to EU is low. Hopefully a Bundesliga or Seria A team comes in now either way as Fassi's comments today effectively lower the asking price.

I noticed that Londoño wasn't on the River bench in their friendly last night. Did he get sent back to the reserves, @locoxriver ?

It’s all step by step... just because he was called-up for pre-season doesn’t necessarily make him a first team player. More than 30 players were called up for the pre-season group, so for now he’s just a peripheral player that’s being analyzed for the long term.

What plays in his favor is that Federico Girotti was just sold to Talleres this week, so in a way he kind of moved up a spot in the pecking order, albeit not by his own performances.

However, he doesn’t seem to have impressed Gallardo too much if you base it on the recent friendlies: not only was he not called up vs Velez, but in the previous week’s friendly vs Platense Gallardo even opted to try out Carrascal as a 9 over him (and Jorge actually did pretty good!)

Even in the midweek friendly vs Tristan Suarez where he used an alternative formation to give a chance to those who didn’t start vs Platense, Londoño was no where to be seen again... Carrascal played the first half as the 9, while Romero replaced him for the last 45 minutes.

Right now I wouldn’t expect Londoño to get many immediate minutes. Julian is the obvious starter, Gallardo values Braian Romero as his back-up, Suarez should return soon, and then it seems hybrid midfield-forwards like Barco and Carrascal follow. Like I said in the Quintero thread, we’re kind of stacked with attacking options this season, so it’s a headache to pick who starts and who doesn’t. While there aren’t many traditional 9’s like Londoño in the squad, it seems Gallardo is opting for a more fluid, modern formation this season where he’s just going to pack mobile, technical players to move all over the place.

But maybe he’s also trying to protect the Colombian and not rush his development. Perhaps Julian will leave to City in a few months (Guardiola said he would like to have him for preseason) and then Flabian can begin seeing more action.
