Might as well start a new thread about Audi Field for 2022 to discuss tickets, parking, and other news about the stadium and surrounding areas. To start, the space directly adjacent to Gates A and B has been cleared for development. Hoffman (who was awarded rights by DCU to develop the space) and Volunteers of America are going to put up 500,000 square feet of development, including VOA's new headquarters and 462 apartments, 110 of which are senior housing apartments. Included will be a 305-space underground parking garage and approx. 50,000 square feet of retail and entertainment space. https://www.bizjournals.com/washing...-development-voa-hq-by-audi-field-clears.html Note that this is separate from the development Akridge is doing that is coming to the lot directly south of Audi Field.
I've got space at the south lot for the first two games. Then the wife and I are taking an extended overseas trip and with other conflicts, won't see another home match until July. I expect that lot to be gone by then.
I hope (and expect) that some of these buildings will come in with ground-level dining/drinking spots that would be appropriate pre- and post-game. Assuming it follows the Navy Yard trajectory Buzzard Point is likely to become another cool neighborhood in a few years.
I don't know that he ever had that. I think all they ever said was menus curated by Jose Andres and based on the couple of times we have upgraded to club or field level, his influence is nowhere in sight. We had club level seats in 2018 and last year along with field level with the Heneiken Club. Only differences in the clubs were that you could actually get a beer at the Heinekin Club. The view sitting down there was fantastic. The concessions are run by one of the big institutional caterers like Levy or Aramark, although I don't think it's either of them.
According to the DCU website: "Audi Field concessions feature a variety of food and beverage options curated by famed D.C. chef José Andrés and culinary partner Levy." https://www.dcunited.com/matchday/concessions FYI, there's an extra Maria's Pupuseria this year. In addition to the ones in the north and south ends, there's one on the west side around section 129, a bit north of the arepa stand.
While I don't know what section it's in yet, apparently one of the concessions is selling gyros (yay Taxi!). Anyone seen these at AF?
first time going to Audi field today vs Toronto. Taking my young son, any suggestions for a parking garage as close as possible to the stadium?
You may want to check spothero.com. I just looked there and the closest parking lot (just south of the stadium) doesn't appear as an option for today, so is probably sold out. Big crowd expected, I think, so closer options may be more limited at this stage. Various options detailed here: https://www.dcunited.com/matchday/transportation
Speaking of old times, this time lapse of the Audi Field construction still exists. https://app.oxblue.com/open/tuner/dcunitedstadium
sigh, I'm still a sucker for good stadium p*rn. But so frustrating that it stopped just a couple pics short of a completed roof.
The worst part about that is that the camera location was not bothered for several weeks after it was turned off.
watching time lapse photos reminds me of how much I like Audi. It's a refreshing alternative to all the perfectly symmetrical stadia. It has some flaws, incomplete roofing among them, but one day a new owner will take care of the roof and add some new features. An escalator to the upper deck on the east side would be nice. It's a haul to get up there.
wow, Audi Field is a cookie cutter rectangle with no character. the only thing the neighborhood has is a white elephant of a baseball stadium.
It's like the outcome of an MBA project where only one person gave a damn for the last month of the semester and got done as much as they could.
Probably not worth relitigating this point, but Navy Yard has *tons* to offer besides Nats Park. Especially now that more and more apartment/condo buildings are open and more and more of their ground floor retail is being utilized.
in the walk from the metro station to Audi there are a few retail businesses but nothing that gives the area character. I was sleep walking to Audi. So unless there have been major improvements in the 2 years since I left, meh.
The immediate neighborhood around Audi is changing rapidly. Especially two blocks to the north and toward South Capitol. But yeah, from Metro you got the white elephant of the Nats Stadium, with mostly residential on the other side until you hit the UHaul store. That's a place that won't be around much longer. The major redevelopment is anywhere along the river.
