ON ESPN it had the MLS cup on the side with a link here. http://msn.espn.go.com/soccer/2002/recap/69458.html# you can watch the goal again here. Later tongight we can see if there is anything on sportscenter.
WEll it was Number 8 on top plays. All they said was " 61,000 in attendence including Robert Kraft" Then they showed the goal and that is it. Its a shame they show golf and tennis but not soccer.
Cool, they showed the results of the final, and mentioned Kraft. You just said they showed the goal, mentioned the attendance and mentioned Kraft. Which is it? It can't be both.
i was totally bummed at 10pm to watch "an expanded 90 minute sportcenter" and there was almost no mention of the mls cup final except in the "plays of the week" section near the end their own company broadcast the game with 4 reporters and 2 commentators and they didnt have one second of coverage out side showing the goal by ruiz in a 5 second clip during a one minute rundown segement it was tough to watch all the indepth coverage of every single nfl game knowing that right after sports center there was going to be a one hour nfl weekend wrap up show they even showed indepth highlights of a game they called "the worst nfl game of all time" dallas 6 - arizona 9 i am in pain here thinking that "the worst nfl game of all time" is better than the mls cup final in front of over 61,000 they showed highlights of preseason nba games, a whole slate of nhl games, a recap of saturdays college football and then when the baseball game ended it was full coverage of that i was totally stunned they could not find ONE MINUTE to feature the mls cup final
The conspiracy is complete! How many times have the detractors said that "when MLS draws" it will get press. Or something to that effect. A footnote across the country in sports pages, yet, posters on this board will see the ratings tomorrow, point to the attendance and know that despite the best efforts of the traditional sports editors and writers in this countries and our friends at ESPN, soccer is becoming a major sport in America. 61,000 paid attendance for an American soccer championship cannot be argued.
More proof that the next TV contract should go to Fox and their extensive sports net. They have most of the shootout package covered anyway.Once in a great while they would show highlights during "The Best Dumb Sports Show.Period".Minor but still a few steps ahead of"The worldwide leader in sports". Sad.
It's crap that a little more time wasn't devoted to showing the game, however, you must admit that this wasn't exactly a game full of highlights. There were say 4 saves worth showing, a crossbar, two or three good shots, a few nice moves, a few good fouls, but how much of that is wasted on the average Sportscenter viewer? Sure we would have eaten up the sprawling save by Brown in OT, but Joe Sixpack would have been mutting "F*@kin' soccer, get back to the riveting Arizona-Dallas game highlights."
And yet they break down every worthless second of the Tour de France every year, and no one really cares. Show the "few" highlights and have a little post-game analysis from someone for a grand total of 1-1 1/2 minutes, and I'd be giddy!
I know, because this isn't a SOCCER FREAKIN' MESSAGE BOARD. Here's a box of "Shut up" for "bend me over, please" soccer fan. SportsCenter virtually ignoring the game is a disgrace whther you don't mind eating their poop or not.
What else were you expecting? As far as most ESPN commentators are concerned, nothing else happened the previous 119 minute except for kicking the ball around like a bunch of idiots until someone got lucky and kicked the ball in the net. See Jim Rome for more elaboration.
Why are so many soccer fans such whiney babies? Christ almighty. 61,000 is an aberration. They covered the damned thing on SportsCenter. Chris Berman featured Ruiz on his top ten plays of the week. Give it a frickin' rest already.
and your a premium member?!?! ______________ berman said "carlos ruiz "the fish"......" on another note, it is disappointing not to hear much about the game on espn. but we gotta face the facts...america still has a long way to fully appreciate the sport. and jim rome is an idiot...
Jim Rome Trivia Rome used to have a show on the fledgling ESPN2. He lost it after getting into a fistfight with Jim Everett during an interview. The fight was spurred on by Rome insisting on calling Everett "Chrissy".
More coverage on the game would have been nice, but I needed that extra analysis on that Dallas/Arizona barnburner, dammit!!!!
