Either part of the back 4 or in Nyeman's Dmid position. Real class, head up, great decision making, passing, moving, everything.
58 was (I think) the French kid/2nd round draft pick? I thought he looked good, too. My reactions: 1) We're gonna like Estrada. Aggressive in a one-on-one situation, threat on set pieces. He drew the foul that set up his goal (good service from Gressel there) by going at a defender out on the wing; we've definitely had forwards who would have waited for support and dropped the ball back. 2) Flores spent a lot of time playing wider than I would have expected. He worked well out there, but it does look like our offense will be heavily wing-oriented (didn't see many attempts to work through the middle of the field). 3) Canouse is gonna get a LOT of yellows, if today was any indication. Galaxy had good success going fast through the middle of the field, and our best defense in the first half was Canouse fouling and letting DC reset. 4) Hines-Ike and Birnbaum looked good in the middle of the D. Smith played on the left and looked fine, though I think the first goal was set up through his side. 5) The only mark our first round pick made on the match was grabbing and spiking a Galaxy defender to the ground and possibly breaking the guy's wrist. He's a big dude, though. I left with some optimism -- we're going to be fun to watch, and we'll be a little better defensively. I'm still worried about who will replace Arriola in the attack in terms of, for lack of a better term, stirring the drink, but this roster could be a mid-table/low end playoff team.
We're gonna beat Charlotte by 3 or 4 goals. Early season MLS is goat rodeo soccer, which benefits DC, and Charlotte just doesn't have the horses.
Don't go getting my hopes up for this season. That is a recipe for bitter disappointment. Optimism is not on the menu in this forum, dammit.
Nothing on their website, just like the new shirt video. or am I just not seeing the video? Thx, Jay!
It's funny how different reactions to Estrada are - a guy on Reddit said he reminded him of the 2020 version of Kamara.
No. I don't follow DCU on Twitter, have no use for Instagram and Zuckerberg can die in a fire. He built an unmoderated cesspool and has been raking in billions off captured data. Prime quality asshole.
Kamara that can finish. I'll take that. His movement was also good. He can find space and he has the reputation that will draw a defender toward him.
I thought the same, but I seem to remember Kimarni Smith scoring twice in a preseason game just last season.
LA had a local broadcast for the final preseason match. They did not post DC goals on social media. United did not post any videos. Since Chicarito scored the two Galaxy goals, those goals were all over.
He could be! Preseason is weird like that. And I can see the comparison physically. But I thought the skill in linking up with the midfield and technical ability on the dribble were on a different level. We'll start finding out next weekend, I guess?
Never fall in love with a loan player... especially with our track record of going back and trying to renegotiate the agreed upon sale fee. Worst jersey was the 2017 Ninja Turtle away shirt. I didn't get to watch the stream so I can't say for sure that the commentator is wrong, but Kamara made a complete mess of his first few of scoring opportunities in 2020 and never got on track. He was in, clear by 20 yds and botched that finish against Colorado. Dribbled straight into the keeper. I still don't think my son has forgiven him.
