Good article on what his value to the Quakes might be. https://www.brotherlygame.com/2022/...philadlephia-union-jamiro-monteiro-cape-verde
Yeah. Everything I’m seeing from philly fans is that this guy is pretty good. The only problem is that he insisted on playing #10 or not at all. He was a bit redundant with phillys homegrowns and so didn’t play in every game. Of course philly will prioritize their hg’s as they can (and did) make millions for them.
Interesting. The SBNation article argued that he’s better as a shuttle mid. But I guess he doesn’t like that role. Anyway the Quakes don’t really have a natural CAM so the role is his I’d say, to the extent we play with one.
Wait are you people in favor of "more excitement" or against "more excitement"? Make up your minds! I'm actually against the DH in the NL because I would never voluntarily watch an NL game so I'm fine with them being dumb, but having pitchers hit regularly is the best tool we have for determining just how much better MLB players are now than in the past... for example we can determine that Hall of Famer Honus Wagner is about the same talent level as Neifi Perez, who some have labeled the worst player (for their era) in MLB history. But if you actually find it entertaining to watch professional athletes do something REALLY BADLY, we could come up with all sorts of cool rules... punters are now running backs on all second down plays, the shortest field player steps in as goalkeeper for PK shootouts, etc.
From a Philadelphia fan: "That said, I've always found him to be wildly overrated, so it's no huge loss to me" The PU fans aren't crying into their beers over losing him. Ask yourselves why.
It's probably all about what their expecataions were. Some were probably hoping he would be their Valeri-type CAM, contributing both goal and assists, but, as the article stated, his strength is transitioning the ball forward, as well as being a tenacious defender when we lose possesion. That said, will those attributes move the needle for us?
Pitchers don’t *have* to be bad at hitting. Kind of like QBs didn’t *have* to be good runners. But whoa, look what’s happened over time. Competitive pressures and challenges have made QBs more multidimensional and it’s raised the level of the game. It can help yours and your teams’ cause if you can hit. Plus it reduces the incentive for pitchers to throw at hitters. “Well maybe one of my teammates will get targeted and I’ll huff and puff about it but won’t be me!!” Maybe it’s just me but I’d like to see more players like Shohei Ohtani in the game, not less.
Yes. The kind of CAM I’ve wanted the Quakes to acquire is a high motor guy who can win the ball and lead transitions. His assist rate is pretty good too - good enough.

I'm excited. From this highlight reel, it looks like he's got good vision, is creative and proactive... and maybe the biggest thing as simple as it seems for pros... uses both feet.
Geez yes, drives me nuts to see professional soccer players nearly unable to use their weak foot. Looking at you, Darwin Ceren, and Marcos Lopez, among others. You’re a professional soccer player! You don’t use your hands! You have all day every day to work on your feet, would it kill you to get competent with your weaker foot?
