Panama just beat Jamaica 3-2. The U.S. really needs Mexico to score against Costa Rica, or finishing 5th could become a possibility.
The hero ball is on him. We try to beat teams with individual players. Not as a collective unit. Are players to blame? Hell yeah. Pulisic should apologize to the American nation for his performance today and against El Salvador. He shamed us. But Berhalter is the man who is ultimately at fault for our team not being able to beat USL league 1 level teams.
The thing is, if all of what you wrote is true-which I do tend to agree with-then it’s on your manager to figure out how to put guys j to positions that maximize success. Berhalter is 100% to blame for his inability or unwillingness to do that.
In real life. You think that all it takes to succeed is making the right call-ins, lineups, and subs. Nobody on this board would be able to gain the respect from the USMNT from the get-go, and despite his weaknesses with tactics, nobody on here would be better than berhalter, either. It’s okay to say that berhalter is bad, but you come off as a moron by claiming that dozens of posters on this board could do better.
And 1998. Canada will be like USA 1998 at the WC. At best. Everybody will want to draw Canada in their group.
I've stuck up for Berhalter myself, especially when the criticism has been a bit unfair. For one thing, none of us know exactly what's happening on the training pitch or in the dressing room. All coaches deserve the benefit of the doubt. But I have to agree, it's the same thing over and over. I keep finding myself saying "not our best game" and wondering when the complete performance is going to come. And that's ultimately on the boss. The worst part is, we're not surprising anyone. "Oh look, here come the Americans and they're in a 4-3-3." We're too easy to defend and too predictable on the attack.
At points before Berhalter was hired, David Moyes and Julen Lopetegui had been interested in the job.
no - one point lead - as of now. but Wednesday will certainly provide exceptional clarity .... we will find out what kind of men we have on our team as they have to play truly on the frozen tundra in Minnesota. But same day Panama has to play against Mexico. So we get the Azteca visit in March - Panama has to play them in a few days. The sky is not falling - but Egg certainly got played like a fiddle by Herdman today - and he is presenting himself as clueless ....
Herdman will adjust. He knows that things will have to change for the World Cup, and I have no doubts that he'll make the right adjustments to have the team ready to play a game that will be more competitive at the World Cup. That's what good coaches do.
Moyes would have been a good coach. He knows how to coach teams with limited soccer ability but plenty of size.
yes greggs been hiding behind cream puff opponents for 4 years who has he beaten? anyone away from home? anyone better than an over the hill mexico? in 4 years? soooooo tired of hearing about his win % when it is mostly against bosnia d team on a lucky 1-0 win type game
Jesus missed a half-open net twice and Wes blew an open header from near the 6-yard box but go off, king. I know we're all frustrated, but, christ, take a breath, folks.
the real loss is that adams didnt headbutt buchanon on his way off the pitch. i mean, if hes gonna be out anyways...we coulda just mentioned the hamstring wednesday after his suspension was served.
ive said this from the beginning adams isnt even necessary against a bunkering team id play 2 attacking mids and wes against what canada did
Haven't you been listening? He is the pep guardiola of MLS. He is revolutionizing soccer with american football tactics. He is the future.
For the USA, the Mexico-Panama game will be just as important as USA-Honduras. A beat down by Mexico at the Azteca Wednesday would really help the U.S.
Yeah, but Mexico has everything to play for at this point. It's not like the last game of the Hex last time against the Ticos.
I think we should have been more open to playing against the ball when it became clear that covid was going to disrupt the original Hex schedule. Changing the way the world views American soccer is a fine goal...but the national team is further from a club environment than ever before. Very little training time and very little experience in the squad either... these are growing pains that I wish we could have experienced in 2018-2019 but our talent really wasn't coming through until now. The impression I get hear is that we need to be more direct...so do we want to play like Canada, stylistically?
don't think so .... there are so many good international coaches that would have loved to have led the US with all the young talented players. the USSF has made the de facto claim that only an MLS coach (current or former) is truly capable of integrating domestic and overseas players. that is hogwash. This is all about results.
The Fed needs one of those Uber-executives who comes in, learns what creates success, and then makes it happen. Do you even have to be a psycho person. This is the approach they used to pull off a really well run Olympic Games. Or to lead major sports leagues. Anything to create some accountability.
Panama has the advantage of playing Canada at home. That’s a game they can expect a result. They’ll probably lose against Mexico. But they’ll probably beat Honduras. 21 points. We’ll probably draw Honduras 0-0. Lose against Mexico and Costa Rica. 19 points. We’ll be counting on a win to beat Panama. I bet we’ll draw. Panama climbs to third. And we fall to 4th. If Costa Rica starts racking up some W’s and we’re in trouble. Main thing is expect us to underperform in all of our games.
Watching MEX-CRC game, CRC doing us a favor, their forwards can't finish even if they lives depended on that.
