Is there precedence for a team gaining a bid into NCAA Tournament while failing to gain a birth in their own conference tournament.
I don't know, but making a conference tournament is not part of the official selection criteria (which I just posted on the Historical Question thread).

Will Meyer was picked up by Nashville and Carlo Ritaccio by my local team, the FIre. I'm not an MLS fan but may take in a few more Fire games if Ritaccio starts getting some time. Ritaccio is a good pickup for Chicago and I was surprised that he wasn't picked earlier. Then again, his last season was not the best and even when he was able to play it seemed that he was not at his potential.
I would love to see Carlo make an MLS roster, but the odds are steeply against that. I mean, how many 3rd round draft picks make the cut? It happens, but it is not all that common. Ritaccio will be successful in whatever he does. I think he would make an excellent coach.

This happened previously, only it used "Columbus Crew" as a brand to it. It's just guaranteed spring games. Nothing really special about it.
